Back when Wayne and Kanye were still running the game. To me that was the closest thing to a modern golden era of rap that we had. Before the mumbling, before the clout chasing, you didn’t have to rap about killing, it was just about making good music and rapping your heart out and being yourself with a lil bit of singing and harmony added in.

    Drake has spoken about this record as it kind of being a rushed project, pressure from the label to work with big names, big producers, to make a standout debut album. Which really took away from what Drake is as an artist, not having a lot of 40 on the record really hurt the sound of this album overall. You hear it a ton in the lyrics of this album, everything is moving so fast in his life as he's skyrocketed to superstardom in mere months since So Far Gone.
    FYI, you still have 2 mixtapes - Room for Improvement (his very first project - very old Jay-Z inspired) and Comeback Season.

      @TheEPSD2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@lulanokonwo6274 So Far Gone came out in Feb. 2009, Thank Me Later came out in June 2010. That's not a lot of time to blow up into superstardom, tour with Lil Wayne, meet all of these artists you looked up to, and then proceed to working with them and writing dozens of songs for an album.
      Hip-Hop is held to a higher standard of how quickly artists fizzle out and how quickly they need to put out music. The label rushed him into creating a debut project. Thank Me Later had many songs that leaked early on, so the album was presumably finished at least a month or two before release.
      With Take Care, he approached it differently. He locked in with 40, he took his time, and they worked on the album until the final hours before release, as they do now. They've followed the Take Care formula ever since.

    This album is a pure classic dont need to say anything else Drake has been top of the game since 2009. That is is why he is one of the goats. Btw Over has one of the coldest beats of all time.

    One of my favorite albums by Drake. This is the Drake 10 year old me gravitated towards, even as a young kid. Fancy still a top 5 Drake song IDCCCCC. Also I feel like even though Find Your Love is one of my favorite Drake songs, Kanye should have kept it for 808s. Their concert a few months ago confirmed that it would have made 808s even better.

    There was a remix of Light Up that mixed a Biggie Smalls verse into it. I was absolutely obsessed with it for so long. Put it on a few mixtapes for my friends. That being said, top 3 for me is:
    Up All Night
    Light Up
    Miss Me
    The features really made this album for me. Fireworks is a close 4th. Shut it Down is 5th.
    A classic.

    A lot of these songs are just vibes … I don’t think it’s an easy listen in this capacity …. But just driving around with the windows down at night hits …. Definitely Nostalgia helps too like Jon alluded to…. This was the soundtrack to my sophomore year of high school so the memories associated are heavy …. Great reaction still 👌🏽🔥

    man this album,
    songs like fancy, the resistance fireworks, over, find your love, best i ever had, i was 6/7 years old hearing those songs not really thinking much of it but now that i’m 20, and listening to music i heard when i was 6, i can truly say wow. At the time i thought nothing of these songs but now these songs are amazing. And they give me a sense of nostalgia

    This album came out right after my freshmen year of college and it got me thru a lot of shit….especially me dealing with girls that I was fucking with on and off. Karaoke was was one of them ones along with, shut it down, miss me was huge, fancy took a while but it grew on us all, shit the whole album was a masterpiece to us back then it was so different but what we needed…so many different sounds and styles/sides from him. I think it built us all a taste for all types of experimental sounds/genres of music going forward and honestly, this is what he still does today 👌🏾🙏🏿💨
