I pretty much have only been loading the 240gr XTP for my 44 mag needs in both my 6” Colt Annaconda and Henry Color Case Hardened Carbine. I use either a CCI MLP Primer or a Remington MLP Primer, however, standard Large Pistol Primers have worked well, too. I charge the case with 24gr of Lil’Gun. Velocities out of the 6” Anaconda average 1,500 FPS and 1,725 FPS out of the 16” Henry carbine. I harvested 3 whitetail doe with the load out of the Henry in 2022 on the same morning here in Nebraska. The first was at 15 yards, the second at 50 to 60 yards, and the third at 60 to 65 yards if I recall correctly. While i did not have drops on impact, the deer all went less than 25 to 30 yards and collapsed. Terminal performance was excellent.
I've got a Ruger Super Redhawk chambered in .44. With a Burris 2x7-32 handgun scope. Shooting a Hornady 300gr XTP over 25gr of H110. Remington 2 1/2 primer and starline brass. 10 shot average of 1386 fps 1281 ft/lbs at the muzzle. 2 inch group at 50 yds!! Its an impressive setup that I am sure will do the job. Happy hunting!
Great content. I used to own one of those exact revolvers. Big boy! but accurate and very well made. 240 XTP is an excellent generalist .44 Mag bullet. You got the classic Hornady performance: steady 50% expansion with excellent penetration. And I’m glad you went with good old H110, which is tailor made for this stuff.
I've used the 240gr XTP to harvest many deer. It always performs well. I've loaded it with H110, BlueDot, No. 9, and currently, Enforcer. I'm anxiously awaiting deer season to test out the new 240gr Nosler SP loaded with Enforcer. I've been very impressed by its numbers and penetration and expansion in my testing. Love the 44 mag! Probably the most versatile cartridge under 150 yards.
Wow! Really enjoyed this video! Thank you for taking the time to create it! Those Hornady XTP's are seriously impressive. I'm no hunter - but want to create precision handloads. This certainly will help me! That penetration was amazing! And the fact that the bullet remained intact... Fantastic information! Please continue to create these super helpful and interesting videos. I use the 180 grain xtp loaded by underwood ammo rated about 1500 fps from a 6" barrel and my blackhawk is 7.5" so around 1200 ft lbs of muzzle energy and deer do not like it
Your timing is perfect Guy. Working on tuning up loads for my carbine and Mountain Gun. Might be a little stiff for the pistol but the rifle should like that load/bullet combo. Thanks and keep 'em coming.
That was pretty good. Back in the mid to late 80's I think, gun writer Layne Simpson was playing with the 44 Mag and 300 grain slugs, then all I could find were home cast from my RCBS mould. No chronograph so I used 2"x6" boards 6" apart. Had pretty good recoil and I had a great grip then. Layne stated he was getting 1400ish fps, I don't remember the load but it was hot, 8 2" boards a 50 feet was not a problem and the hard cast were mushrooming to near three quarter inch. Got a nice mule deer that fall with it an a 400# black at 75 yards that same years. Both were about 75 yards one shot (not because I'm a good shot). My grandson has that Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter now as I don't have the strength to use it any more, still shoots good, a cylinder full at 50 yards he can keep them inside 4" all day long. The loads I left out, they were either H110 or 296 pushing the high end. Read the labels on the cans about max loads. Do a video on what they can do, the bear was quartering away, I dug the slug out of the bank 30' past where he fell..
I’ve shot some whitetail with the xtp. Longest shot was 48 yards. I’ve always had good luck with this bullet in my revolver and rifles. I really enjoyed the video on it!
An excellent load with very impressive SD. I personally prefer the Barnes copper hollowpoints, but the load you have there will certainly get the job done.
Ya, I was impressed. Small samples though, I'm sure they'd stretch out a bit if I'd recorded 20 shots. It was cool though that the 23.5 and 24.5 grain charge weights both produced really tight ES & SD figures.
Hey Guy I had a Ruger Redhawk years ago and shot it extensively with many different types of bullets from 180-320 grains.Hollow points, flat nose lead core bullets, lead semi wadcutters and hard cast lead bullets.I always got good accuracy out of them, never had a scope or anything other than iron sights.I was much younger then and I routinely shot at 100 yards. With 240 gr loads it was always a easy shot, once you figured out the sight picture.I was hunting in Colorado and one of the guides had just bought a Dan Wesson with a 8 3/8 barrel and was trying to hit a milk jug size rock at 300 yards but kept hitting all around it,so I asked him if I could try,he said sure.First shot broke the rock in half,he scowled and said it was luck,so I fired again and blasted the smaller of the two pieces. That was with Winchester 240 gr Silvertips. All of that to just say this, with practice, you will learn the gun and the load, and that load is capable of taking large game easily at 100 yrds. Good luck and have fun.
Thanks for the video. I have the exact gun and have been playing with Matts 240 lead hp. Had good luck on hogs at short distance. 7.5 grains of trail boss. I will give your load a try next outing.
Always good to see Guy. Great SD on that load. The XTP has a fine rep for a hunting bullet as long as it has decent velocity, as it does here. Have fun with it. When u can reload, i look forward to trying these in my 7.5" SBH and 210's in my 6.5" 41 Mag. And i have a 5.5" SS Bisley 45 i need to work with......
They work great, I load 240gr and 300gr xtp for my 7 1/2 inch barrel 44mag Super Blackhawk . Never let me down yet I have put a lot of meat in the freezer using them
Guy, I took my SBH to Magna Port here in Macomb County and they did a package tune up for me. Reamed the forcing cones, trigger job, porting the barrel and correct the timing. Mine shoots like a .22. I've shot 6 Whitetail with it.
Excellent! A lot of folks have told me that these single action revolvers have excellent accuracy potential. I think one chamber in the cylinder is a bit tight. Sure feels that way when I eject a cartridge from it.... I'll do a lot of shooting with it this summer and see about a tune-up this winter.
Love the set-up and you shot it very well 😊 I carry my Ruger Sp101 357 with a 4.2 inch barrel.. and open sights! It's my primary backup while hunting in Pennsylvania. I use Federal Fusion 158 grain and PMC Bronze 158 grain JSP for the revolver. Plenty accurate out to 25 yards 😊 I haven't harvested anything with it yet.. but I plan on doing so this upcoming season. Like I said.. primary backup! So.. this coming season I'll carry my Ruger 77/357 with the Sp101. If the broad side shot presents itself.. under 25 yards.. I'll use the revolver. Thanks for sharing this with us.. and best wishes for you with this setup ❤
Thanks! Yes, I've often carried a 357 or a 44 with sights while hunting. Did so just a few days ago while bear hunting in Idaho. Hunted with my rifle, but had the little 3" 357 S&W revolver along, "just in case."
Guy, I have been using WIN 296, the H100 Cousin. Running 19.9 grain WIN 296 with Hornady 300 XTP, and 24.5 WIN 296 with Hornady 240 grain XTP in my Ruger Super Redhawk. Looks like we share good taste in 44 Mag Revolvers. GOOD video!
Run 200 and 240 XTP out of my Smith 629 performance Master Hunter with H110. Prints moa at 100 yards with Leupold scope. Also use 210 XTP in my T/C contender 41 magnum 12” Bullberry barrel and Leupold scope. Also moa capable. Enjoy your content, especially the handguns!
Great combo!! Been using same in my Redhawk and Blackhawk for years. Very effective on whitetail. 50yds kills are very doable. If won is comfortable, could push that to 70yds easily.
I love the xtp and have used it for years in my ruger super blackhawk with great results. Unfortunately my Marlin 1894 just doesn’t like the bullet so I had to find another bullet for it which was disappointing because the xtp is such a great bullet. Looks like it’s gonna work out good for you in that revolver.
I got a doe last year with my Blackhawk Hunter topped with Burris handgun scope. First time hunting with a handgun and it was an awesome experience. I used factory federal jacketed hollow points. Pass through at 43 yards. I will have to try the XTP this year.
I have the same pistol! After my first pig at 40 yards. I was hooked!! lol be careful it gets addictive! Get u a diamond d leather chest rig. And u will leave them long guns at home. 👍
First, great video as always. I shoot a 6" Colt Anaconda for my .44 mag fix, range only, and always for the borderline masochistic, shock & awe experience that Keith's baby delivers so viscerally. If I want a reduced power load I'll load & shoot .44 Special. That said, my pet load is the Berry's #97080 240 grain plated flat point over the same 23.5 grains of Hodgdon H110/Winchester W296 as you with Federal Gold Match 155 magnum primers, crimped fairly heavily. Amazing accuracy and chrono consistency just over 1400 FPS with muzzle flash and recoil in spades. I love shooting at my indoor public range and hearing the bay go silent after a round or two while everyone else pauses to come see what the heck I'm shooting. I haven't tried Titegroup in .44 mag and have not been overly impressed with it in general as it tends to be messy in a Lee Auto Drum and has not produced stellar accuracy or consistency for me in other caliber loads.
240 xtp and 245g SWC Keith bullets shot well in my 44’s, h110, imr 4227, and my favorite 2400 all shot very well. Furthest I have my rugers hitting with open sights is 75 yards. 60 yards was more comfortable For practice I like unique 8-10 grains. The old skeeter loads are a great way to get trigger time in and not break the wrist
Great deer load. It's refreshing to see 44 Mag loaded to full power. If possible practice at 75 yards and shots at 25 - 50 yards on game are easily achieved
I went bear hunting last week and got a smaller black bear, but with my rifle, at about 65 yards. I really wanted to take the 44 Ruger, but wasn't confident enough in my shooting skills yet.
I've taken several deer with the 240gr XTP in handloads using H110. I have a S&W Performance Center 629 "Light Hunter Plus" 7.5" with a Leupold M8 2X. When I sighted in the scope at 100 yards it shot a 3.5" 10 shot group. I put the 2X Leupold on it because it's just too hard to see the iron sights while hunting deer just before the sun comes up or just after it's gone down. With something like a fence post to rest on I consider this a 125 yard deer gun. I don't generally sit where a shot that far would come up though.
I inherited some of my father’s reloading equipment. Just learning! He had some H4227 so I loaded a bunch with 23g and 240gr XTP. Haven’t yet shot many yet but they were accurate enough for me close range out of my Interarms Virginian Dragoon, but a little too punchy for me. They seemed more accurate than the Hornady factory 240XTP out of my Henry 20” Big Boy. I don’t have a chrono but I’m guessing somewhere around 1600 fps. I also tried some 180gr XTP with a slightly higher charge, but they didn’t seem as accurate. I liked them out of my revolver with 13gr of H4227 in a 44spl case.
I have a Marlin 44 lever gun..and I have taken everything from grouse to rabbits, to big does, all with 240 gn hand cast "Keith" lead... loaded in 44 special cases I can fit around 10 rounds in the mag :) XTP and a slightly stouter load it'll take anything in North America...
Great content as always! Many thanks. We have been very pleased with the 240 XTP in revolvers & rifles for whitetail over the past 20+ years of using them. They have proven very consistent on accuracy and extreme effective on terminal performance out to 120 yards. 23.3 to 23.9 grains of H110(depending on revolver or rifle) has been the diet. I get 1330s out of my 6" 629. We get 1880s out of 20" rifles. Have you considered running that TiteGroup load in the gel with the XTP to see how it performs at distance with lower velocity? Happy hunting.
I’ve taken three whitetails with the 44 magnum. I know there are plenty of more powerful rounds these days, but the 44 magnum is just so versatile I can’t seem to use anything else lol. I’ve loaded tons of the 240 xtp, and they have always been very accurate for me. Never taken a deer with one though. I took one with the factory 240 gr federal fusion, and the other two deer I used 255 gr WFN hardcast bullets. Think I’ll load up some xtp and finally try them on a deer this year. My hunting revolver is the S&W 29-3 with 8 3/8” barrel. I’ve owned several ruger 44 magnums though, and I personally still prefer them in a hunting revolver.
I'm currently using a S&W 629 Performance Center Stealth Hunter 44 mag. I've killed three whitetail deer with this particular gun using a Sierra 240gr JHP bullet pushed by 24.5 grains of H110. My particular gun shoots quite well with my load, with some 2 5/8" 6 shot groups at 100 yards. I do have plans to try the Hornady 240 XTP as well. I've not yet chrono'd my load (totally unlike me...).
Ruger Super Blackhawk 10.5" S/S 2power S/S Tasco. Hunting Load 240 XTP 24grs. H110 @ 1600fps., Speers 200 HP 29grs. Lil'Gun @ 1800fps. I've taken 3 deer with it, the firth one at 75yds. Just messing around at the range I put a 1gal. water jug at 200yds. it took 3 shoot but I get it! I've had mine since 1985.
Ah, that's about when I bought my first 44 Super Blackhawk, but I didn't keep it. Silly me! Thanks for the report, you're getting excellent velocity with that longer barrel.
I use the same Ruger BH Hunter (scoped 2x) with the regular "plow handle" grip. I shoot and cast my own bullets, and with the old gaschecked Lyman Devastators (250 gr. I think), behind 21-22 grs. of 2400, I get a nice super tight 10 shot cluster at 50 yds. I used the .429 sizer on the bullets, which was the only one I had at the time, and I lubed them with some Lyman's Orange Magic. They shot perfectly so I never changed a thing. The groups outdid most jacketed loads so I left well enough alone.
@@guyminer3168 At 1400+ fps from either the .357 or .44 Mags, if you keep your lead alloys in the 9 to 12 BHN range, and use a gas check at those velocities, cast bullets are actually a very effective option. Considering the cost of jacketed bullets in regards to the level of performance from each bullet type, it's been a no brainier for me. I also make (swage) my own jacketed bullets, but haven't in several years due to the cast performance I've gotten.
I have some of the Berry's 158 grain heavy plate bullets for my Marlin 357 Magnum I need to get loaded up and try out. I'm a big fan of plated bullets. I have a bunch of the now discontinued Rainier plated bullets I use in my 9mm, 40 S&W, 380 and 32 H&R Magnum. I use Tightgroup in my Marlin 357 Magnum lead target loads and have had very low sd's also in every load. It seems to be a very good powder in those lighter magnum cartridge loads.
I'm using the the same Ruger Bisley Hunter with 23.5 grs of W-W 296 and get one hole groups at 25yrds and 1-1/2 at 50 . 240 grain hollow point from winchester . 2x Leupold EER . I think the red dot covers too much area for accurate shooting and causes larger groups at longer range .
Big fan of the XTP in my in-line ML and out of my 629. My Ruger 96 didn't like it, but it didn't like anything... My smoothbore slug gun shot better. Personal favorite load in the 629 is a home cast 250 grain Keith bullet over 18 grains of 2400. I load that and contact my inner Elmer...
Hornady’s lever revolution ammo in 44 mag through a lever gun is a thumper. Hardly any recoil but it will tip a deer where it stands to at least 150 yards. I haven’t shot at anything further than that. It’s my favorite combo in cluttered terrain with short distance shot opportunities. Handgun hunting isn’t my thing but I can see its utility.
Welll... Ruger 5 1/2" Redhawk, the OLDE Honady pre XTP 200 grain HP's with the exposed lead tip at 1375 f/s, not max but Very accurate, the factory open sights. 7 whitetail deer at ~ 45 - 55 long paces, All one shot drops. Non went 10 feet. One boolit recovered. That deer turned toward me and I shot it in the throat. It reared up on its hind legs like a stallion, then crumpled over backwards. That boolit took out a couple of vertebrae and was recovered in the neck body area beautifully mushroomed at a 45 degree angle. I think that was because of the angle it hit bone. Frankly, that was my Most Spectacular big game kill ever! I do have both 200 and 240 grain XTP's loaded up now, but haven't had the opportunity as the area is now open to rifles. Thanx for the gel test. I now have full confidence to use either. Jerry
Believe it or not in my super black hawk I run the 180 xtp and is wicked on whitetail. The 240 Nosler is a real thumper also . The pisto and little Marlin love that bullet . Try some 180 xtp . I have found at 75-100 yards is plenty for deer size game .
Guy you should try the BearCreekBallistics 44mag 162gr all copper cnc machined bullet for deer hunting. Perfect mushroom and flat trajectory. 100 weight retention.
I know out of a muzzleloader, these same bullets work on deer. I have had some issues with them exploding on closer shots though. Last season lost a doe, on a shoulder shot. Same shot placement on deer in past but at a little farther yardage, and deer usually don't go far. Not sure what happened on the doe last season, but heard her crash, then she got up with new life. Couldn't believe it, and made me wonder if I should look into heavier bullets. or better constructed. Heard the Speer deep curl is good, but not tried that one yet. I have taken deer out to 125 yards with the xtp 240. I picked up some sabots and some cast bullets to try out , hopefully get some good groups. One reason I stayed with the 240 XTP for so long, is they grouped well.
Its hard to beat the Hornady XTP for hunting. I've used others like Speer Gold Dot, Barnes, Nosler and Swift A Frames. For deer the XTP is the medicine for big stuff that will fight back I would use Barnes or Swift.
I like them both for different purposes. The H110 for maximum velocity, the Titegroup for a more mild practice load. We should have a video coming out on that in a few days.
Try the sierra sports master in 240 grain id love to see that video. In my experience with 45 auto I've had way better accuracy with Sierra's over hornadys bullets.
@@guyminer3168 hit spine and ol fella didn’t go far…just came in from shootin dd5v3. Awesome video thanks. Maybe try one on a 41 Magnum another day?;
For deer the 200 or 180 xtp's are much better than the 240 xtp. They expand better on deer sized game. 240 are very rugged and will have less expansion inside a deer.
The Super Redhawk with the Hornady 240 load is nearly perfect in the Rocky Mountains. Definitely 100% on Mule deer at 60 yards or so. More than enough for anything here out to 35-40 yards. I think the Redhawk scope attachment was s better choice if I remember correctly. 😊
@@guyminer3168 Interesting. I'm using the same load, almost identical barrel length and I'm using Federal LPP Magnum and I'm getting extreme spreads of around 100 FPS with and SD of 30. I wish I had some CCI LP mag primers to try.
@@guyminer3168 I've actually never shot that gun over a chrony. that load grouped really well for me and I've just run with it. I'll get numbers and let you know
@@guyminer3168 i finally had a chance to chrony those 200gr XTP's. new chrono, so I ended up with 8 shots registered from 2 separate 5 round strings. Avg: 1372, Min: 1346, Max: 1394, ES: 48, S-D: 17

Used factory Hornady 240 XTP at 30yds, in a Thompson G2 Contender, 14” barrel, 20yrs ago, on a deer that ran 20yds and dumped over.
An excellent load with very impressive SD. I personally prefer the Barnes copper hollowpoints, but the load you have there will certainly get the job done.
Thanks! Yes, the velocity spread was very tight. Excellent powder for the 44 mag, and I like using that Lee factory crimp die.
Great video ! I just purchased a box of 240 grain XTP bullets . I’m impressed with the performance. Only difference I’m using 296 powder.
W 296 or H 110... Either way is a great choice for a magnum revolver. :) Best of luck with those 240 XTP's - great bullets!

I carry my Ruger Sp101 357 with a 4.2 inch barrel.. and open sights! It's my primary backup while hunting in Pennsylvania.
I use Federal Fusion 158 grain and PMC Bronze 158 grain JSP for the revolver. Plenty accurate out to 25 yards 😊
I haven't harvested anything with it yet.. but I plan on doing so this upcoming season.
The XTPs have always seemed to me to be solid, no-nonsense performers.
Good way to say it!
GOOD video!
Thanks. Ruger's Super Redhawk is a strong beast of a revolver! Enjoy.
Thanks! Handguns are fun. Hoping to make this handgun hunting thing a reality.
Great combo!! Been using same in my Redhawk and Blackhawk for years. Very effective on whitetail. 50yds kills are very doable. If won is comfortable, could push that to 70yds easily.
240 xtp is my go to in a 16" rossi r92. Works incredible on whitetail out to 125 yards
Very nice. I get similar velocity results with that bullet and H110 out of my super blackhawk and super redhawk. Great report, Guy! 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
Thank you!
.I have been using the XTP in my Super Blackhawk and my Ruger carbine . Similar load to yours only with WW296. Always great results
I tend to load the XTP due to availability but I have Speer Deep Curls id like to try. I hear they are great but sadly discontinued now
I love the xtp and have used it for years in my ruger super blackhawk with great results.
Congratulations! I'm thinking that if I draw a doe tag this year, that will be perfect for trying the 44 revolver.
I have the same pistol! After my first pig at 40 yards. I was hooked!! lol be careful it gets addictive! Get u a diamond d leather chest rig. And u will leave them long guns at home. 👍
Ruger builds great revolvers, single action or double action. I like your holster suggestion. Thanks!
60 yards was more comfortable
For practice I like unique 8-10 grains. The old skeeter loads are a great way to get trigger time in and not break the wrist
Ya, a cast 250ish grain bullet and around 9 grains of Unique is a great and time-honored load.
I use a Ruger Redhawk with stock sights. I have taken whitetails with Hornady 240 gr. XTP HP loading 24 gr. H110, 23.3 gr 296, and 15.9 gr Blue Dot.
Congrats!
Congrats on your deer hunting success!
Seems you've got a great load! I think a good cast bullet makes all kinds of sense from a big bore revolver.
Yes it does!
300 gr xyp super accurate at 200 yard’s in my ruger. 296 powder.
Hornady 210gr 41 mag. With a max load in a ruger super black hawk hunter and a s&w 657. The bullets always work great with pass throughs.
Good info! Thanks. I've got to get a 44 lever action rifle....
@@guyminer3168 they’re really comfortable to carry surprisingly.
Jerry
Congrats on your hunting success!
Believe it or not in my super black hawk I run the 180 xtp and is wicked on whitetail. The 240 Nosler is a real thumper also . The pisto and little Marlin love that bullet . Try some 180 xtp . I have found at 75-100 yards is plenty for deer size game .
Thanks for the info on the 180's! Been a while since I shot anything that light from a 44 revolver.
Ultradot is the way to go!
I like it so far!
great video, all the way around, try missouri bullets 300gr hammer
Be interesting to put that load through a lever gun and see if you get bullet failures at close range in gel
Guy you should try the BearCreekBallistics 44mag 162gr all copper cnc machined bullet for deer hunting. Perfect mushroom and flat trajectory. 100 weight retention.
Excellent! Good idea, thanks!
Great video great gun reminds me as a kid when my uncle got a bear with his 44mag.
Great video Guy , do you prefer H110 or Titegroup ?
I like them both for different purposes. The H110 for maximum velocity, the Titegroup for a more mild practice load. We should have a video coming out on that in a few days.
I use nosler sporting handgun 250grains in my 45 colt with 25grains of H110
That sounds like a great load! I load for the 45 Colt as well.
In all my experience, H110 performs at its best when it is loaded at the maximum.
Try the sierra sports master in 240 grain id love to see that video. In my experience with 45 auto I've had way better accuracy with Sierra's over hornadys bullets.
Hammered 2 bucks with my 6” trp 10mm with 155gr xtp runnin 1400fps…40yrds offhand. 1moa rmr..
Oh, I like the sounds of that load!
@@guyminer3168 hit spine and ol fella didn’t go far…just came in from shootin dd5v3. Zeroed old simmons 4.5x14 on a $3k battle rifle…lol..110gr nosler varmageddon over 3300fps 16” barrel..with the 419 hellfire brake off my porch…uh yea uncomfortable would be a mass understatement but boy is it effective..like a flash bang 16” in yer face. I love my 110s in .308…devastating
Awesome video thanks. Maybe try one on a 41 Magnum another day?;
Nice gun Try 21.5gr aliant 2400 I put 5 same hole 25m
Love 2400, but if you use it, stock up soon...
As a California resident, I'm wondering how the Barnes XPB 225 grain pill performs in your 44 mag?
Good question! Perhaps we'll test that one too.
Sweeeeet
I've grown real fond of that big Ruger single action already!
For deer the 200 or 180 xtp's are much better than the 240 xtp. They expand better on deer sized game. 240 are very rugged and will have less expansion inside a deer.
Kinda thought that might be the case... Thanks!
Try some Lil' Gun with that bullet. I have gotten some really good results , especially in a carbine barrel.
Yup! It's on the list. :)
Lehigh defense 200 grain monolithic bullet copper
1030 foot pounds FWIW 👍
Let see some 300gr xtp or some ftx
We ran the 300 XTP into the gel blocks a couple of years ago. Got about 30" of penetration and reasonable expansion as I recall.
Gentle Load try 12gr Imr 800x
Thanks! I'll check that out.
The only thing the XTP does well is penetrate. Good stuff.
What primer?
CCI large pistol magnum primer.
@@guyminer3168 Interesting. I'm using the same load, almost identical barrel length and I'm using Federal LPP Magnum and I'm getting extreme spreads of around 100 FPS with and SD of 30. I wish I had some CCI LP mag primers to try.
@@ssspencerjr - I'm also using the Lee factory crimp die and I "think" it's helping with the consistency.
Personally, in Northern Canada, Baffin Island I don't own a handgun
Ya, I'm glad that we can still own them down here. Baffin Island must be a very interesting place to live.
I use 240 XTP over a healthy dose of LilGun in my 8" Anaconda.
Thanks! I've got to try LilGun soon.
41 mag have better performance for my self (210gr)
That's a cool, and under-appreciated cartridge!
Penetration in synthetic gel does not correspond to calibrated organic gel… Just saying
True - but it's a consistent test media that allows us to compare bullets. Some don't penetrate well at all, others dig deep.
200gr XTP and 12.5gr Unique 44 Mag in a S&W 629 Stealth Hunter 🤌
What sort of velocity are you getting from that? I've used a fair bit of Unique in my 44's over the years.
@@guyminer3168 I've actually never shot that gun over a chrony. that load grouped really well for me and I've just run with it. I'll get numbers and let you know
@@blaqkpanda - cool. I often go with 8 - 9 grains of Unique and a cast 240 or 250 for a medium power load. Very nice to shoot.
@@guyminer3168 i finally had a chance to chrony those 200gr XTP's. new chrono, so I ended up with 8 shots registered from 2 separate 5 round strings. Avg: 1372, Min: 1346, Max: 1394, ES: 48, S-D: 17
