Was introduced to the music of Andrew Hill with his Black Fire album in 1975. Have been listening to his music ever since ( I have this album). Had the chance to meet him at a solo set he was performing at some long forgotten NYC club almost a year later. Very nice man. Was going to try and get him to perform for my College Jazz Society ,but lost contact & performance info..
"Hattie," the first tune here, is dedicated to Hill's Mother, as can be checked on the liner notes of his marvelous album "Nefertitti". The same version of the second tune, "Snake Hip Waltz", can be found on the released album recorded at this concert; this tune is present as well on his album "Divine Revelation", played by a Quartet . Andrew Hill was amazing; a real acquired taste, and not for everyone!
So great!! Andrew Hill’s last Trio recording from some church is also wonderful and on film. I watched in awe when he performed with a big band at a Bath music Festival in (I think) 2002. It was so brilliant. I still can feel the vibe and the spirit of that concert at the Bath Pavilion.

Luv Andrew Hill"s music! Had the pleasure of seeing him live at the Jazz Showcase for three nights .
I never really understand what the hell Andrew Hill was doing, but I love his music.

Amazing to see him play live! It's such a shame that the video fades out at the end though...
