Around 1993 some of the biggest hits were Golden Axe, Mortal Kombat, Super Fighter, Alone in Dark, Dune 2, Wolfenstein, Doom, Settlers, Sim City 2000.

Prehistorik 2 always crashed on my old 486DX2-66. Sometimes the introscreen didn't even work. With my old 386DX-40 no problems at all. Aah the memories...

I just discovered that Blue Moon got the game for free on their website, and I was very happy to see that they also provide the music, both in mp3 AND original mod music files! I loaded them into a module tracker and played around with the samples and tracks.

Great selection of games! Thanks for taking us on this nostalgia trip.
About the sound blaster 16s ASP/CSP: apparently it was used for decompression of compressed sound files.

My "soundblaster moment" was in 91/92, when the title sequence exe to Ultima 7 was released/leaked. A friend ran it with his brand new SB. "Avatar!"

After 30 years and thanks to you, I had the revelation on the origin of the Tetris Classic intro music ! By the way it sounds so good on a General MIDI module such as the SC55. Thank you for this great video. A lot of these titles are part of my all time favorite classics !!

Nice games you running there. TFX look soo cool. I played F-19 back in the day and I totally missed this TFX. I played a lot VROOM, but was rebranded Formula 1. But Prehistork 2 was (and is) really my favourite. I still play it on my 486 pcs. Try disabling CPU L1 cache with setmul and use unisound for sound card driver. This usually makes it run on any system.

In the early days of Sound Blaster, Wing Commander was most impressive as it included voice acting.
I used to look forward to Sierra games as well.

ULTRABOTS! aka Xenobots. I played this game quite a bit. I actually beat it on my first playthrough. Way too easy. Not really a great game but it led the way to all the great mech games I would spend hours playing in the mid-late 90's.

I've really enjoyed these 2 videos, great showcase of some fantastic, and perhaps lesser known dos games.
I also have to give big props for the video itself and how well you shot the CRT. It looks great, and was a joy to watch!

Thx a lot. Appreciate it. Used ProMovie on my iPhone to shoot the crt footage. Had to re-do all of the shots as the original footage had too much flickering.

    • @Richard.Linder
      @Richard.Linder 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@RetroSpector78 Did you have to shoot it at 70 Hz / 70 frames per second?
Many DOS VGA games ran at 320 x 200 @70Hz or (640 x 400 @70Hz). I think the 640 x 480 games ran at 60Hz. It all makes a big difference when trying shoot it.

I have played many dos games as a kid (born in 82). The only games I have played in this ABC list is "Alien Carnage" and "Zool". I have played many dos games over the years, but almost all games u play is unknown to me.

Nice to see prehistorik 2 here It is a great game. I never could finish maybe I have to try it on a k6-2 or something like that for playing. It requires msdos but also a powerful pc so maybe 98 will work. Xp doesn't unless dosbox but it's a hazzle

Thanks for the nostalgia walk. From the point of view of an microtransaction pay to win hellscape we are now in basically every game, may I recommend PCEm v17 and some basic DOS and windows 3.11-windows 95 (before "3D" era - glide) for anyone who just wants to be entertained by a computer game. Get them now while they're hot before another mega-corporation like Nintendo destroys all the fun with their copyright redneck rampage after IP that is now over 40 year old.

I'm guessing the ASP was used for ADPCM compression on the digitized sound. It won't sound different from anything else, it just lets the game publisher compress the sound files and use the DSP to decompress them instead of having to do it on the CPU. For everyone's trouble, maybe the game takes 50% of the space for the sound clips -- if and only if the publisher decides the savings are worth only supporting digital SFX for users that have the ASP chip.
It's the classic tale of "we're making this feature optional, so no developer can safely assume it's present, ergo nobody will use it, ergo nobody will have a reason to buy it, ergo nobody will ever bother to write software for it."
IIRC, it can also do some kind of Q-Sound thing. I can't even remember what that was even supposed to bring to the table. 3D sound or something? I dunno...

Nie to see you know the Amiga.
On a different note, I would not say Fllight Simluaro se standards. It always was a game for the weird guys who had no decent computer or no sources to get the warpane flilght sims, because honestly: Realistic flying on it's own is the most boring thing in the worldm and if you wanna do it then at least add some strategics besides fuel planning and more challegnges than just landing ;)

Hey my idea. If you add a little bit of dust to one half of the screen and also black paint from printer to the left side and also a little bit of clay on the top and probably some wild green plants, than you will get 500k views just in one week
