I forgot how angry Giles used to get over challenges. There was a point in later series where he consciously decided to chill out a bit. I do enjoy listening to him but early Giles was very posh and easily angered. I'm glad he mellowed.
It shows that people can be passionate about getting their viewpoints across, especially when they feel they have been challenged unfairly and especially when Nick is always doing something idiotic and doesn't know what the hell is going on and decides for no good reason to take a subject away from someone.
1:30:03, we were reaching a point considering that Clement was the last surviving member of the Original Foursome, that Nicholas would say things like 'Clement loves getting his points', as though he was talking about an old man in a nursing home that loves stewed prunes.
1:30:50, Nicholas states at the end of the round on Cantebury Tales, after learning that Clement has the whole of the Cantebury Tales memorized, that its taken Clement all these years to show that his education wasn't wasted, and once the audience turns on Nicholas he tries to defend himself by saying he didn't mean it as a snide remark but as a compliment. I'm sorry, but when you state that its taken someone a long time to show that their education wasnt wasted, that seems to imply that you personally think that they haven't done ANYTHING useful or meaningful with their education during the whole of their life up to the point where they can recite from memory The Cantebury Tales on a stupid panel game.
Before the Big Broadcast Corporation's Talentlessness Department brought with it the obligatory collection of chums who have a comfortable and permanent position in the state Commiedy club funded by Public pelf, this programme had a fair chance of being regularly entertaining, and even funny at times.

It's difficulty for three people to make jokes when the fourth is genuinely angry.

Nicholas certainly didn't help given it did seem at times he was competing with the others panelists to get laughs from the audience.
