In 1989, a millionaire eccentric John du Pont opened an athletics facility on his 800-acre, Pennsylvania estate. For seven years, the estate housed and trained a team of pentathletes, swimmers and wrestlers including Olympic champions, the brothers Mark and Dave Schultz. The strange and haunting story is retold in director Bennett Miller's haunting film "Foxcatcher". VICE sat down with cast to discuss the movie.
“Foxcatcher” is out in theaters November 14, 2014.

Carrell and Tatum surprised me with their performances, they knocked it out of the park, especially Carrell. Seeing him go from lovable Michael Scott to... this, was nothing short of stunning. Incredible work by all 3, Foxcatcher is one of my favorites for the year
Ruffalo played Dave very well. Dave was an outstanding human being and Ruffulo played his part in showing that. But all 3 did a really great job.
Tatum surprised me. All three leads nailed it
How can so many people not love Steve? It saddens me
Channing Tatum is pretty modest and seems almost overwhelmed by the cast of people and crew he was around on this film. I guess this wasn't 21 jump street.
Gotta appreciate an actor who isn't pretentious and actually admits some of the the themes were hard to understand for him.
Iker C Yeah. I think he's really taken his career to the next level with this movie and he's discovering a whole new world of film and levels of quality that he hasn't experienced until now.

So excited for this. Let's go, Academy Award for Steve Carrel! And Channing proving that he can act in real dramas.
While all three were awesome, I actually thought Tatum gave the best performance, which is unfortunate since he is the main character and he's being overlooked.

The film is actually about both John du Pont and Mark Schultz, not just Mark. The movie starts its focus on Mark, but once John is introduced, the film begins to shift its focus towards John, especially since the film mostly takes place on Foxcatcher Farms, where John lived. John’s presences never leaves the moment he’s introduced, sort of like Hannibal Lector’s presence stays throughout the entirety of The Silence of the Lambs after we first see his character.
Mark Ruffalo doesn't really talk much until 15:05, but when he does, damn does he have some wonderful things to say
Carell is so amazing here, the mannerisms are so perfect. Notice how he ACTUALLY looks down his nose at the ppl he's talking to
just like robin williams, steve carell gets his beard out for his serious roles :D

@@Bananaman11309 Lol you'd prob change your mind if you'd ever wrestled or did anything athletic in your life. It was extremely impressive. Wrestling is the hardest "mainstream" sport on Earth by a mile, and he captured a lot of the mannerisms that elite wrestlers have.. Not to mention capturing Schultz' mannerisms as well. It was a great performance for a very difficult role. Mark Ruffalo is the best actor in the film tho

I went through so many emotions during this film. I even cried at one point. It was just so intense and I felt my skin growing hot with fury along with Mark. This movie is amazing.

Just a bit outta his league . Thats all. I STILL get intimidated while sitting down with Steve, Channing but not Marky Ruffels. I don't know. Just my personal opinion and what happens to me sometimes and he only caught 7, not 8 foxes (Channing) in the movies. Sort of false advertisement if ya ask me.. But theta a whooole 'nother tapioca

Folks, what are they doing doing in Hollywood?!? Steve Carell DESERVED the Academy Award for this film! All three actors have outstanding performances in this film. The premise is dark, shocking, remarkable and very honest and true. Again, Steve Carell INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE! Bravo-Bravo!
All of them brought their A-games to this movie.
Brilliant performance by all. I have done a bit of research on dave by now and after re watching the film, i have2say Ruffalo's acting is as good as it gets. Ive not been much of a fan of his work..but he is truly a gifted actor and seemingly dedicated above and beyond

I love Channing's suggestion of playing chess with Bennett Miller at the end. Led to an apt (but really cheesy!) metaphor from the interviewer about the 3 of them being chess pieces in the movie
I just loved the performances in the film very very much especially looking at steve i Just could believe it even after when the movie finished. Couldn't believe that happened in reality and looked after the documentary available on Netflix and was sad and blown away more . Dave will be remembered forever
Always thought Mark Ruffalo was talented, Steve blew my mind in this, and I have always hated Tatum, but he proved to me that he can act because of this film, I won’t say a negative thing about his acting again.

The first time I saw pictures from this film I thought it was a comedy. Up until I watched the trailer I still thought that, so much more serious than I ever imagined.

I got a hardcover copy of this book on the subject ASAP. Very interesting and I've read it a few times.
this interviewer is awful. talks over them, interrupts them, misunderstands what theyre saying... their responses seem so jaded as the questions just miss the mark

Carrell is actually right in that the real life Du Pont was even creepier and more eccentric than his portrayal. Just check out his 1988 interview/documentary which can easily be found on TH-cam. Du Pont came across even more creepy and awkward than Carrell did as him in the film.

Dave was the real deal. Google "Paly green, Olympic Gold, Fade to black" (vikingsportsmag.com/features/2010/02/22/paly-green-olympic-gold-fade-to-black/) for an excellent article on Dave and Mark written by students at Palo Alto High School, their alma mater. It gives some good insight on both of the brothers. On a more personal level, I was at a freestyle clinic and tournament my senior year, and Dave came as a guest trainer, and he used me to demonstrate a move. A little pain for me meant others learned something new. My brush with fame. :-)
There should be a interviewer training school somewhere where interviewers get trained to shut the hell up and let their interviewees answer the freaking questions without needing to jump in and show off their own knowledge.

This interviewer keeps interrupting everyone. He seems bent on proving how smart and deep he is. In the way he keeps cutting the actors off and forcing his perspective on them. It's as if the interviewer thinks he's part of the cast in some way. Ugh, he really sucks at what he does, yet I'd be willing to bet he thinks he's really deep and interesting. Lol.

the film has loads missing, it is over dramatised and a lot of innacuracys. Watch the documentary on foxcatcher. its much better. Though, the movie is actually really good as a movie in its own right, it doesnt do justice to the truth
i think it does it justice. i understand that they didnt go into the details the way the documentary did.. but as a whole it was sufficient
its a good movie, but when you watch the real footage of John du pont, even his voice and mannerisms are not as sinister as they are in the movie. But hey, everyone has their own opinion

I think Tatum Channing has maneuvered between semi-serious roles in the past...which didn't necessarily challenge him....and after Miller's direction in Foxcatcher he was challenged as never before.....

The in tire thing to me was building up to the rich villain taking the unweathy wrestlers life. The music told me the in tire time it was coming.

yeah you can tell they dont care channing was the only one that made it obvious the guy was dumb, the other two actors are too professional and sympathized for the interviewer. Tatum was very agitated by the guys POV and questions, he said it straight up "i just played the role and didn't think too hard.

I get what you're saying, and I hate when people try to do that when there's really nothing there. But in this case he has a point. I don't know if I completely agree with his, but the movie shows how you can really damage your kids when you become so successful and rich. Unless you make a conscious effort to make your kids live a normal life; but that's almost impossible when you have that much money. Being born in a rich family is a HUGE disadvantage in life. It's almost crippling.

Channing's very first comment (can't tell if sarcastic or stupid. I hope not, like the actor..)about films depiction of Americas role In the world in Especially given it's time frame with the USSR, I mean it was like a year before the Berlin Wall fell. But he sorta sounds kiiiinda dumb here, maybe too harsh, but cannot decipher subtle psychological cues and their relation to historical contexts. Strange really.
