Eh, I've realized that streaks mean nothing if you're not learning. Duolingo is more of a game than a learning method. figured I'd pull the plug on my own terms (and make a hopefully-entertaining video, at that)
Good question. I wouldn't say that I learned a *lot* from Duolingo, I still can't understand 95% of a conversation. But I did learn some vocabulary, plus I pretty much mastered hiragana & katakana (japanese "alphabets".) so I would say that is helpful
If anyone reading this is on the fence, I'd recommend Duolingo for a few months to get your feet wet and see if you're ready to commit to daily learning. But I wouldn't recommend staying there for as long as I did. (If you're sure that you want to learn your target language then feel free to skip this step)
