I have found that if you want a single fin to turn as good as it can is put the fin right to the front of the box. People have asked how do you turn your 10ft Mal like that, I tell them put your fin fully forward. Single fin for life.
As an ex shaper who's dabbling in boat design, I find it very difficult trying to impart surfing design principles to boaters who have no idea of or respect for these principles. Sure would love to have collaboration with knowledgeable surfer/boaters. Cheers
Hello Ian I would like to purchase one of these in the same dimensions . I’ve been ridding something similar in shape with the - modern double wide 8’4 , 89L - but the ones I’ve had are not strong enough for 5ft+ and I’ve snapped two of them . I’ve been searching for a more reliable replacement . I’m not looking to surf much above 6ft but would like to know my equipment will hold together incase it gets big out there . Will it be easy to get the same board shaped and what should I expect price wise ? Thanks Jason
Thanks Ian for sharing this video. I shape my own boards in Florida, and I learn a lot listening to Mr. McCoy talk about his designs.
Would have been good if he explained about the dome positioning and depth in relation to board size or wave size.
