Several times I have been reprimanded in the workshop for suggesting doing this for customers to save money. All because the company wants to sell stock and make profits. So its great to see this wealth of knowledge been passed onto the public.
Well said Karl! Thank you so much for watching and sharing, we are glad to help and appreciate your comment, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I can’t believe this is my first time hearing about this. I’m kinda stunned in a sense. Definitely going to give this a shot. How often is performing his task necessary?
I did this in my electrical mechanic shop class at a skills center in high-school to many batteries. My husband doesn't believe you can do it with a regular car battery because the batteries say on it not to. But I was specifically taught that you can. So I'm sending him this video.
@@roughjeepliving5394fill to just over the lead plates. Make sure it doesn't go below the plates, but I wouldn't fill much higher as it will bubble from the charging and overflow, causing lost battery acid.
I used to work at Costco Tire Center and we also sold batteries. By the end of the week we’d have a pallet of old used batteries, we’d shrink wrap the lot and this guy would pick up every week. He said he refurbished batteries and makes a pretty penny. I never knew it was this easy to do this. Outstanding video Karl thank you man
I knew a similar guy. Sadly he passed away quite young. Lead and acid are dangerous on their own. I wouldn't do this indoors without forced ventilation.
Former DODGE mechanic. In 1972 Chrysler came out with a tsb -technical service bulletin on new cars that were sitting a long time and the new batteries would not hold a charge. Take out the battery. Gently bounce the battery on a work bench a few times. Empty and safely dispose of the battery acid. Refill with new acid. Charge normally. Load test and reinstall. Worked 95% of the time and reduced battery warranty claims. Works on old batteries also, except agm and other dry batteries.
The method is quite sound. I'm in my 60's. When I first started driving, a full service Gas Station would not only fill your tank, but also wash your windshield, air your tires, check Oil, Brake Fluid, Trans Fluid and best of all, your battery water level. Batteries lasted the life of the car. Better stations would give the battery a soda bath before checking. (Soda bath is 2 tablespoons of Baking Soda dissolved in 1 gal of water. This is poured over the entire top and down the sides of the battery. It neutralizes the acid that develops as the battery is used. The top of the battery is wiped dry, to ensure none of the soda bath enters the battery when the fill caps are removed.)
I remember all of the full service things as well. It's so pathetic now a lot of places even charge for using the air compressor to add air to your own tires here. Sad, sad world we live in.
My first job at 15 was pumping gas at a full service station in 1963.. we'd jog out to the customer with a smile and give them the full treatment whether it was a buck or a fill. I later graduated to front end work, fixing tires etc. The good old days! 😁
@@sscbkr48 Bet you wouldn't want to be young today. ...sorry, I just had a math teacher in high school who was roughly your age who told us at least twice a year just how much he doesn't envy our generation. I would give an arm and a leg to have been able to get a job at 15.
How does it neutralise the acid on the inside of the battery when this sodamix is poured on the outside and top of the battery? There is thick plastic in between
My grandfather taught me this when I was a wee tot, I musta been too young because I forgot about it until you showed the process, ah the memories unleashed. Life on the Rohnert Park Seed Farm.
Thank you very much you’re exactly correct it works and it works great now you have a spare have a great day thanks for the comment mad Mike Sweet project cars
I remember 20 years ago in Athens, Alabama a man with a small farming tractor emptied out all the water out of his battery added a cup of sulfuric acid and the rest distilled water. ( I honestly do not remember the parts of water to powdered sulfuric acid) Poured it in the battery and charged it. It probably cost him not even a dollar back then and he had a new battery. Absolutely crazy what companies are charging us for simple batteries. Thanks for the video!
Well to be honest, they of course want a profit. But it is quite dangerous for a professional, so you can see the danger for the average idiot. Then we have transport fees and storage fees while the batteries are being refurbished, because "hazardous materials".
I’m a Technician in the shop at a KIA dealership and this does work. A lot of the battery’s I’ve done this to I’ve had to do it more than five times. But if you have the time this does work and you’ll save yourself $$ Thanks for this video.
Worked like a charm, thank you. On mine I had to repeat the process about 12 times, but now a battery that's been dead for maybe 5 years is 100 %. Thanks again.

I've been doing that since I was a kid when we used to race cars in the '80s we always got a bunch of old batteries from the junkyard and most of them worked again a lot of people don't know about this anymore thanks for the video
100% works. Some batteries may take way longer than others. I'm doing a 12 volt 200 amp hour battery right now for a semi truck. So far has taking me 10 tries with the 15 minutes on 1 hour off. I'm starting to bubble in all cells. Definitely need patience but works. The battery has been sitting for 2 years dead outside

@@completelyafflicted1554I had the same issue, I cycled four times and the cell closest to the negative wasn’t active. I drained the battery fluid and replaced with fresh acid . the cell became active after the first charge
He's giving you a guideline on how to do the process. It may take five times to do it it may take 50 times to do it but it definitely works. Like I said I had two batteries that were outside for 2 years dead. They are both at 13 volts right now charging with my solar system.
Easiest way I think is to get a heavy duty electrical outlet timer. Set for 15 minutes on one hour off. Check every hour or so on the batteries until every cell is boiling. Mine took a day and a half. I do not recommend doing it if you are not going to check on it at night. Just restart in the morning
I was a little sceptical about this so i had to try it for myself and IT WORKS! I followed it to a "t" as suggested and it definitely made my battery work again. Thanks man, great video!
@@SweetProjectCarsdid the US20 in the link continue to run the entire 15 min? Mine seems to shutoff after about 60 seconds and starts again after 120 seconds. Is this functional correctly?
*UPDATE* My diesel truck has two 12 volt batteries. I tried the 200 amp setting on the first one. It boiled the battery for seconds, then cycled off for a couple minutes. I tried multiple times with same results. I gave up and switched to the 12 volt HI setting and it boiled the battery vigorously. So I used the SPC method over a couple days. Resting the battery for several hours each time. Probably 10 cycles over all and it worked. Battery restored to like new. With the remaining battery, I started off with the 12 HI setting since I knew the 200 amp setting wasn't working, and it wouldn't boil the battery. I tried multiple times same result. So I switched to 200 amp setting and it boiled for a few seconds and cycled. I switched it back to 12 volt HI and low and behold it now boiled vigorously. I continued on with the same process as described above for many cycles and long rest periods. This battery is now testing like new. These are 4 year old batteries in Arizona desert heat. Thanks SPC for showing us the technique.

I'll add that the biggest problem we have in a high tech age is that our tools are getting too smart for us to manipulate them into what they think is abuse. Either buy an old school dumb quick-starter, or buy a mid sized welder -- it'll *never* know the difference :-)

@@SweetProjectCars What about all the videos on TH-cam emptying the battery and replacing with the distilled water and Epson salt mix? Would that help this technique any?
I did not believe this would work. Too good to be true. But I tried it on two batteries this year. It works like a charm. Thank you so much. This will save me hundreds of dollars.
The bubbling is the gassing phase. This is when the battery is producing hydrogen gas and is at least 80% charged. It's in its most fragile state at this point and there is a risk of losing active material on the plates, but since you're desulfating a battery that most people would scrap, your 15 min cycles at 200 amps shouldn't cause much if any. You'll begin to see cloudy and dark electrolyte when the active material begins to shed. Good video and good tips 👍
Nice video. I have a few questions. After the battery is brought back to life would it be a benefit to dump out the old contaminated liquid, acid, and add new distilled water? Second question, small kid toy 12 volt batteries such as 7 or 9 amh batteries. Suggestions for waking them up? Have a nice day.
Lead acid have around 500charge cycles until they are done. I made a 12v Lto battery for around 120euros has 20000+ cycles holds more charge and its not heavy and has a similar voltage curve as a leadacid, so no special charger needet. And the operation temp is -35to 60 degres celsius. Even those Lto cells wont burn if damaged or overloadet
Thank you for the video, this type of work to keep a battery usable for years is incredibly valuable. You will never learn this from a battery supplier.
This worked 💯 percent top off with distilled water charge at two hundred amps for 15 minutes then let it sit and cool for an hour repeat that cycle several times took my 10 v battery back to a 12-volt battery my only advice would be to turn off battery charger instead of disconnecting terminals cuz the Sparks can and will ignite the hydrogen fumes splashing acid into your eyes so was my personal experience on the third cycle so highly recommend taking advice and not getting acid into your eyes

Did I read this right, did you just say you got battery acid in your eyes while doing this? By the way, I always connect a battery charger while unplugged, regardless of whether the battery caps are removed, and then unplug first before disconnecting.
Won't the liquid evaporate ? Should I top off the liquid wth distilled water ? But really , 15 times ? Thats 15 hours waiting plus 15 min. x 15 times ! Thats a lot of time to spend in the garage ! Who has that much free time ? How much is your time worth ? I would rather pay the piper and buy a new battery ! My wife and family think I am watching you-tubes in the garage !
I used to charge batteries as a Navy electrician on an old diesel-electric submarine... 504 batteries at once - each one was about 14" X 14" and about 4 feet tall... weight of each battery was 1,000 lbs or so. Trickle charge, deep charge, equalizing charges... good times! Great video! by the way, the bubbles are hydrogen.

OK. Have looked at several ways to fix a battery and this one definitely works! I can get free batteries from our local junkyard where I live in Alaska. I am trying to get enough deep cell batteries to use in case our power goes out since it is locally generated. So far I have done 8 that tested bad under load. All I did was what is said in the video. Don't recommend filling up the water completely until your done because it does book out. Check your batteries every time after you do this because some don't require five times. With the exception of one all have been rejuvenated. The one that did not I am still working on. I am on around the 10th cycle. Only doing it because it seemed to gain a little every time I checked it. It slowly charged to a little at a time to 12 volts. The first several times I checked it it would not hold a load. I just checked it and it is at 12 volts and still reads weak but it actually holds that reading. I am so confident it will eventually read good. I have also done 4 car batteries that checked bad and are now good and hold a load. Thank you for this. The best and easiest video on battery repqair.
Can I do this while battery is in the car connected to the car or do I have to disconnect the battery posts and then do this process 5 times for 15 minutes. Thanks for your time and be appreciated for an answer ASAP. Take care
Disconnect the battery from the car. Although these ‘start’ chargers are designed to get your car quickly started with a flat battery they weren’t designed to do this while connected to the car for 15 mins at a time. You might end up with a fried regulator or something else damaged.
Great video. When I was a young kid, I had a scrap hauling business. An old farmer neighbor showed me how to do this with older batteries that I would take out of old cars that I would scrap. I had a pallet full and one day he asked me what I was doing with them. I told him that I was making a full pallet to take to the scrap yard to recycle and get money for each pound. He said to forget about that, because he could show me how to make them work again and sell them as working batteries and make more money. He said as long as the casing wasn't cracked or the posts weren't broken, it would work. He did tell me to only use distilled water, like you mentioned. However, I didn't hear you say anything about the fumes and making sure that all of the caps were removed and water was inside the cells Before heating them up. Also, the fumes and being in a well ventilated area is a major safety factor.
In the video he did say to make sure to fill it up with DISTILLED WATER (no minerals or heavy metals in distilled water). and he also said to REMOVE ALL OF THE CAPS. just make sure you let it rest for an hour between like he said as well and don’t get any of the battery acid on you or your clothes or anything. It will burn a hole in your clothes and your flesh. Baking soda and water neutralizes the battery acid so keep both nearby just in case it bubbles over. And protect your eyes and even your whole face by wear protective glasses or a clear face shield in case it splashes. Wear rubber gloves as well and old clothes that you won’t care gets ruined if it does splash onto your clothes. Make sure it doesnt splash on your skin. And don’t put your body or your face directly over the holes in the battery or keep it more than 15 minutes. Batteries can and do explode so use caution and don’t let children get near the battery either. Children are curious and may not be aware of the danger of even touching a battery with bare hands if any acid is on it. I was a mechanic on jet fuel trucks in the Air Force for 9 years but we weren’t allowed to revive old batteries like this. Thanks for the info and keep up the great work!
I know I’m a bit late here but both batteries that I’m wanting to do this on are fairly new and the fluid level is correct in them. Do I leave them be, or do I replace the water that is in them for distilled water.
@@corygoins4187 no dont replace the fluid in the battery just add distilled water as needed because there is a percentage of acid in the water that has to stay in there, only the water evaporates the acid stay in the battery

There was some years I wouldn’t start it at all in winter, and it would always start in the spring like new. Never had a problem with the battery, still starts like new. I contribute it to the insulated battery cover that encased the whole battery. The battery is 20 years old and still starts like new, never ever had to put a charger on it. I used to work in an auto parts store. I did it for 75 bucks. thing is, you do have to use and old school non digital charger cause the new solid state ones suck due to the industry not wanting you to be able to do this, since they lose money.
I don't have a 200 amp charger to try this out. They start at $175 which is more than I pay for batteries with 7 year warranty from a farm implement store. Those seven year batteries last 8-9 years. When they are about six years old and winter is coming on, I buy a new one for my Jeep and put that six year old in one of my several John Deere machines. I trade in the oldest one for the new battery. Starting about 25 years ago I bought the seven year batteries and some have lasted 10 years. None have died before the 9 year mark. That is so nice, I remember years ago the best battery was a five year warranty and they barely made it, sometimes died at 4 and a half. Now, the batteries are way better. I hate to spend that much on a charger when I don't need the 200 amp style. My 20 amp charger does a fine job if I happen to leave lights on or when the JD quit charging its battery. I bought a GOOLOO device in case someone needs a jump. That way I'm not risking my Jeep charging system. Maybe I'll give this a try, I have two batteries in the John Deeres that are approaching the nine year marks. I'll make this video a favorite and if I spring for the 200 amp job, I'll try to remember to come back and share if it worked for me. One important thing you didn't mention was, hold long will the battery be functional after you get it the treatment?
I did this with one of the batteries that still had a little power, and it took about 8 charges to work like he explained it in the video and it did work! I did do it on a complete dead battery that has been sitting for 3 years, but I had no luck with it, yet. I'll keep you all posted.

Hi, I just want to say big thank you for posting this video. I remember when my grandfather was refreshing his car battery. He had two cars purchased brand new at that time. I never saw him buying batteries for car. He did this procedure every spring to refresh batteries from winter “hibernations”
I get this video in my recommendations when I just replaced my battery LOL. Funny thing is my last car battery had a warranty of two years, but it made it to 3 years.
?? You say that as if it was made to die at the end of the warranty 🤔 lol Mine actually just died the other day at 37 months with a warranty of 36 months... Hmmm go figure. 🤨
So, I have a question... at the 5:27 mark in this video, you mention that this battery is completely dead and ready to begin this process. So my question is this. Does the battery need to be completely dead before beginning this process, or can the battery be at normal charge? Please clarify. Thank you.
I have a Interstate workaholic battery in my international tractor for 21 years now and the 2 original batteries in my 2007 silverado duramax for 13 yrs. My secret is I keep a 1amp trickle charger on both vehicles 24/7. The only time I take the chargers off is when I'm actually using the tractor or truck.
I did this by accident because the instruction manual said to leave it on a trickle charge. I got 16 years out of the battery. Pulled it out and did see a lot of sulfication on the + terminal. So maybe hit it with the high current once every couple months as well as the daily trickle charge to keep it topped up
@@kevinburns7255 Same question... Although I'm more curious about when using a Smaller (say 150A) Charger's Start Function... Or even an old school "dumb" charger (that left unattended could just as easily overcharge/cook a battery) on an "average" car battery.
My charger can only do a 50 amp start but I decided to try it anyway. I had a battery as dead as Lazarus and after this procedure, it gave 4 strong cranks and a start right off the bat! I've yet to see how long it holds out but I must say I definitely wasn't expecting that. Thanks very much!
I’m doing mine right now with a 50 amp engine start feature. I was wondering too if the 50 Amps would be enough. I just started doing it. Do the caps have to be off??
Thanks for the video.. Very informative. I recently have been looking at prolonging battery life. I started with protecting the battery from engine heat and been trickle charging the batteries weekly. I had come across people topping up maintenance free batteries and you have taken it a step further. I would consider doing something similar but the maintenance free batteries we get dont have any stickers or plastic cover you can remove to access the individual cells. You would effectively have to dig out the plastic at the top and drill holes to access the cells. At that point i stopped looking as it was a lot of work just to add water to get maybe another 6 months. Now seeing the comments about how much longer people get, i will have to rethink and see if i can find a maintenance free battery that has access to the cells and do the recharge that you have shown.
At least some batteries "hide" the cap covers rather smartly. (Have batteries in my UPS Power Strips that have a Plastic Plate glued down inside a recessed lip making access difficult but not impossible. Plus usually by the time the UPS throws a "replace battery" light it is "cooked"/bone dry and too late to recover... Or maybe not.) Having seen A LOT of scrapped "core exchange" Maintenance Free Batteries at various stores... I've always been curious if many of them could have a second life had its owner just tried to clean the terminals/face... much less checked the water level (most "maintenance-free" seemed to have "removable" caps if someone just had a screwdriver)
@@lgoamity I'd be very careful about trying to recondition a UPS battery. You are talking about sensitive electronics protecting expensive electronics. Do you really want to put a computer at risk to save the $15 - $30 replacement cost of a backup battery?

Picked up a New lawn mower battery this last Spring after fiddling around with trying to recover the old battery... Used a Combo of a "dumb" 6amp Charger, a 2/6/12amp "Smart" Charger, a Maintainer Charger, and a "desulfator" device. Guess as mentioned previously I just needed to "have the power". Considering what I spent on that Lawn Mower Battery a Quality Charger might save me a lot of Money over the next few years.
1. Do you need to refill the boiled/evaporated water with distilled water after doing all that? 2. Another commenter states how the electrolyte becomes cloudy and dark after doing this, will this be an issue? Should the electrolyte be flushed and replaced? Thank you.

Great video . I use 2 quarts distilled water and 1 cup distilled vinegar . Acetic acid cleans the lead plates and breaks up sulphides . Let the battery set for 12 hours in warm temps and dump the water / vinegar mixture . Particulate matter will come out of the battery . Thanks for your video .
The Schumacher SC1309 does a decent job but is a pain to get there. As mentioned here many times, the 'smart' modes in the chargers help from battery damage, but they time out. The SC1309 will give 10 minutes of high power on the 40 Amp/Boost mode, and this is the best mode if the battery holds a good charge and you're trying to clean the plates. Basically i would have to press the Start/Stop button twice every 10 minutes (the charge would drop down to ~13.5V then go up to ~15.5V). (Luckily the charger didn't break after doing this 30 times or so, and i was within warranty period). After 30 minutes of high power charging, I would give it the hour break. I did this on 4 batteries. The 200 Amp mode will only charge with high power if the voltage is low (

Mike, it worked, it really really worked. I have 7 6 volt batteries in my golf cart that wouldn't hold a charge. I purchased your best battery charger you suggested and began the process. Instead of desulfating each 6 volt deep cycle batteries, I connected two in series to make one 12 volt to save time. The last one I did alone and that worked as well. FYI, if anyone has golf cart batteries this will work for them also.. 7 batteries would have cost me over $1300.00, the charger cost me $277.00, I saved a total of $1023 plus tax. God Bless you and Julio, you guys are great. Thank you again for sharing this with us.

I’ll be trying this out in the near future with high hopes. I plan to build a battery bank to power my house out of scrapyard junker car batteries. With this method I hope to revive them, then with a windmill or two that I’ve built, I’ll be able to charge the bank and then offset a ton of electricity bill expenses👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You need deep cycle batteries for powering things. Regular car batteries are good for a few starts when they have a full charge, but loose amperage quickly as they drain.
Great video , I don't have that charger but I've learned you can use a welder to do the same thing. Yeah you hook the ground to the ground and the stringer( make sure it's electrode positive) to the positive. Turn up the amps. My welder's is 140 amps DC. This should be interesting I'm going to try it on an old lawn mower battery that's been dead for years.

Battery Charger @ 2:16 Associated model US20 40/10 amp 6/12 volt charger with 200 amp 12 volt Engine Start. I am wondering ... while yo have it on the 200 amp Engine Start mode for 15 minutes does it cycle on and off to let the charger cool down? Is the cycling something you take into consideration and still only leave it in that mode for 15 minutes and then let the battery rest for an hour? If that is the case the weather temperature could affect the actual charging time. Hot weather would equal less charging time and cold weather would equal more charging time.

Hey! I'm trying this right now on two batteries with 650 cca and 780 ca. These two batteries are used on a Chevy Silverado 3500 Duramax 6.6 liter diesel. They both started at like 0.01 volts. After round 1 each was about 8 V, Round 2 just over 10V so it is increasing but I noticed the voltage is now slowly dropping, seems to have stabilized about 9 V. So far no boiling/bubbling. Round 3 thru 5 same story. Ok so just completed round 6 and they are finally just starting to bubble!
@@MMGJ10 I tested a battery using a snap on dtac plus. It didn't hold a charge and registered as "bad" with cca of 601/730. Tested after as "good" with a cca of 632/730. The battery works now but I think it is unrealistic to think it will be as "good as new". Also consider I used this method on an "ideal" battery (in vehicle bought new that was only driven 10000 miles in ten years). It has held the charge for a year so far. I would use this method for low cca requirements but not if you need reliable high cca power.
I wish you would have showed us the batteries actually work/being used afterwards! It leaves alot of doubt for alot of folks who will watch this video. I believe it works and I'll definitely be giving the method a try! Thanks for the video anyways it's awesome!

I’m using a welder for this set at 30 amps. The battery starts bubbling after only 5 or so seconds. Should I still crank the amps up? Also, it’s a lawnmower battery so it’s quite a bit smaller than most car batteries, if that matters.

@@SweetProjectCars so I’ve done a few cycles now, at 100 amps the cells begin to spill over after five minutes, so I dropped it to about 85 where they don’t spill. Battery temp is around 155 degrees.

Easiest way I think is to get a heavy duty electrical outlet timer. Set for 15 minutes on one hour off. Check every hour or so on the batteries until every cell is boiling. Resting the battery for several hours each time. Probably 10 cycles over all and it worked. Battery restored to like new. Good video and good tips 👍

maybe worth mentioning not to smoke and be in a ventilated area during process. Hydrogen gas being highly explosive.

Would have been nice to see voltage readings before and after "treatment"
Why...interstate battery sells reconditioned batteries that they used this prosses on for decades.
Awesome Steve!! Thanks for sharing your great results. Take care. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Thank you for watching and sharing Jeremiah, we really appreciate it. Have a great week my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Same method then?

I followed your instructions and revived my tractor battery. It is working great so far and holding a charge well. Thank you!
Absolutely mpcp27! Let us know what you come up with! Have a great day! mad Mike SPC

Watch this th-cam.com/video/VYtkn-N_p4s/w-d-xo.html it's an update to this method, it's a far better option we've found. Thank you for watching and sharing Chilll, have a great day and all the best on your project. mad Mike the hammer SPC
@@SweetProjectCars I already knew about this that's why I posted what I did
What type of battery charger we can use? 2.5A 7 cycle charger is alright? Cheers
Just do our update here th-cam.com/video/LMulvB6TtQA/w-d-xo.html & th-cam.com/video/1z_f2Wen_UI/w-d-xo.html it works way better and is far more economical if you don't have the required charger shown. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great day. mad Mike & team
@@SweetProjectCars thanks mate, I have just subscribed and watching your each video, its been 3 hours now🤣🤣 some great tips mate, love from Perth Australia.
The key is to do whatever you have to do to get the battery to boil in the time mentioned. If you cannot get this process to work for you see this th-cam.com/video/VYtkn-N_p4s/w-d-xo.html Thanks. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I just did this with a motorcycle battery.
So far it has started right up and worked great. Better then new honestly.
Will try again in the morning.
Edit: tried it again in the morning and the motorcycle fired right up.
Wish I new this years ago. I went through alot of batteries in my life.
Glad to hear tristan! Thank you for watching and sharing, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Did you use the 200 a/h setting for the MC battery?
200+ AMPS WITH SMALL BATTERIES????
I’m so happy to know this procedure now. I’m clear on everything but when you add the distilled water. You did that first but it was to the other battery and it looked like the one you demonstrated on was low on water so I’m not sure if topping off the water is the first step or the last. Thanks for the valuable knowledge
Yes, then you do it again during the resting times. Thanks for watching. See this video for additional info th-cam.com/video/VYtkn-N_p4s/w-d-xo.html Thank you for watching and asking. Hope you have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I knew we used to do this as a kid back in the 60s. My suv battery died and they want 300 dollars for a new one. I bought a charger just like the one you use. Followed your instructions and my battery is like new. Thanks. Hopefully I will never have to buy another battery.
Great job Kacee!! Glad we could help, you're right, they used to do this at full service gas stations when I was a kid, it's a lost art. Thanks for the view and sharing your sweeeeet results, hope you have a fantastic day. mad Mike & team
@@SweetProjectCars we used to do it ourselves back in the 60s. Yes I'm that old...lol
hey friend, didn’t see on the video that you refilled it with distilled water so I take, you refilled it first before the charging correct?
always make sure there is enough water to cover the cell first. if its too low the cell will overheat.
I know, I was waiting for when they added the water. He just kinda skipped over that part, after telling everyone to watch very carefully and follow every step. I'm a bit confused as to when the water is added and to what level.
Wondering the same. I suppose you need to MAKE SURE you fill each chamber with distilled water first or you will do more damage than good?????
You always charge the battery fully before you add any water
I was just about to ask the same thing. I think so yeah???
I remember working in a service station when I was younger, and they never sold new batteries. Always would bring the battery back to full charge. Like cutting rotors you buy new ones.
Absolutely charlie! This process is a lost art, no one does this anymore, they just keep buying new and discarding the old when it's not necessary. Thank you for watching and sharing, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC

First time I've seen your channel...Great video!! Should this be done as routine maintenance every couple of years, or should we wait until the battery shows signs of failing? It gets nasty cold here in the winter, so I'm hoping the idea is to do this as regular maintenance when it's nice outside....and not wait for Ma Nature to turn off the heat!! Keep up the good work.
Scott great to have you with us!!! we do this for most of our customers once every 2 to 3 years have a great day my friend spc mike
my car battery is not completely dead, but I had to have it jumped after sitting a couple years and the distilled water is low. can I do this method on this battery?
I’ve usually buy a $39 battery tender trickle charger and keep it on my cars or motorcycle batteries when they are new and I’ve had batteries last me over 10 years without any maintenance.
I trickle charge once a year in the summer and I get the same result.
Wow thanks for this upload. I am always getting ads on how to revive your car battery and, never buy another one again. The thing is they want you to pay for their secret. You shared for free and that earned a subscription!

Thank you so much!! I can't wait to do this to my car battery. It's brand new but I didn't start the car enough over the winter so it's "bad" now. Hoping this does the trick!

Thanks for sharing your progress, keep it up, you will love the results. Have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Did you get them fully charged? Still going strong? Just curios
Thanks for the video anyways it's awesome!
well when you try it thats your proof and we did do a update video on them working th-cam.com/video/qNPZsP-arm0/w-d-xo.html thanks Mike
Mind if I ask sir, when to add distll water, i saw the first cycle, the water level seems to be low, but the fifth cycle the water level looks all filled. Thanks, another great money saving sweet project.
you add the water through the complete process keeping it topped off as you work. thanks mad mike
wanted to ask the same question. This was not shown in the vid.

Can we add 3:1 ratio acid?
Hi how much would you charge to revive my battery? It's getting dead lately
We show you here how to DIY my friend, that's what our channel is all about, if you can't or don't want to do this process you will probably have to purchase new. Thanks for the view, have a great day. mad Mike
Hey SPC, thanks for the vid! I've been watching you for quite some time now and have bought/used many of the products you suggest with really good results. Thank You! This one has me stumped, however! I bought the Associated Equipment battery charger you show as "best". I got it literally just before my battery failed in my truck. I just completed the "15 minutes on and 1 hour off" sequence - 5 times. But, I still have one cell that is not responding - nothing. All of the others are actively boiling. Suggestions??? Thanks!!!
Do the process again, up to 3 more times. If that doesn't you have got a battery that cannot be reconditioned. Thanks for asking. Have a great night my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
@@SweetProjectCars Awesome! Will do! Thanks for your reply, Mike. You're one cool dude...
@@harrley Greetings, did you manage to recover the dead cell and continue with the process?
Great tutorial! Anyone know where the scale goes? Does it settle or evaporate?
It returns into the acid. Sulfate is a chemical compound. You are un compounding it
Hi, I've read some reviews and people have said the battery charger you recommend (Associated US20) only throws out 200amps intermittently every 30 seconds or so. It hovering around 49amps. Is this true with your charger?
The charger that you will use for this process will work great for the video process. It's thermally protected, let it do it's job and cycle through it's thermal protection and eventually the battery will boil. Thanks, have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I have welders but not dc and I’ve been wondering for some time if this works as I do have a 200 amp charger, thanks for sharing

I only have a 50 amp charger, i wonder if this would still work? Thanks for the video!
IRATA plumber it will, just that it takes 4 times more time on the charger
I'm going to try this on my 6v golf cart batteries. Should I leave them in series at 12v to charge or charge them individually at 6v? Thanks for the video!
Thanks! Cut the charge time in half for those batteries. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I’m using a welder for this set at 30 amps. The battery starts bubbling after only 5 or so seconds. Should I still crank the amps up? Also, it’s a lawnmower battery so it’s quite a bit smaller than most car batteries, if that matters.
Hello Keith, just set the welder to get a consistent boil, then follow the instructions in the video. For a small battery that size, just cut all timelines in half. Thank you for watching and asking, have a great week. mad Mike the hammer SPC
@@SweetProjectCars so I’ve done a few cycles now, at 100 amps the cells begin to spill over after five minutes, so I dropped it to about 85 where they don’t spill. Battery temp is around 155 degrees. I tried slow charging it after cooling, and it took a full charge, but it’s dropping fast as soon as it’s off the charger. It still won’t hold the charge. Should I give it another boiling cycle or just give up on it?
Great idea just wish you had your steps more defined, seems like you assumed we knew what some of the steps already were. Love your vids!!!
Nick M I mean. Add water. Charge 15 min at 200A 5 times with 1hr rest in between. How hard is that to understand?
