  • HP has reinvented the inkjet with their PageView printers. Print heads that don't move and send pigment inks in a line to the page.
    I look at the Pros and Cons of the HP PageView 577dw printer, if it's worth the $899 price tag and show off some photos of my trips.

    Based on what I'm watching, that 20-pg PowerPoint presentation is taking a considerable time to print out. I only saw ten pages of it spit out and the time in between some of the pages was long (not factoring in video edits). The actual printout might be fast, but the processing time seems slower than I would expect from a printer like this, so the overall print time doesn't seem faster than a laser printer. That's just my initial impression.
    I wonder how these compare to HP's laser printers in terms of speed, quality, and print costs?

    • @geekazine
      @geekazine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep in mind: a printer can only go so fast for one simple reason - paper jams. Don't expect printers to spit out paper like a pitching machine. The Pagewide is a lot faster than a color laser and from what I remember, there is a good price difference.

    Thanks for the review. I'm currently looking for a new printer for my home office. I do up to 10,000 prints per month, and so I need a machine that can handle the volume for text prints. I have another printer dedicated for graphics printing, but I need to replace 2 of my current laser printers. This may be an option that I will have to look more into. Again, thanks for sharing.

    So noticed that although each individual page prints very quickly there seems to be a long pause between each printing of a page. This long pause will noticeably cut into that claimed 70ppm.

    The printer prints pretty fast. But it has a Wi-Fi connectivity issue with my Mac book.. it chooses to work or not. Also event plugging the computer into the printer it leaves a 5 min wait between each PDF print if it's a high-resolution photo. Because of this being inkjet glossy paper is impossible to find. So only photopaper or printing paper is mostly available. Scanning is as good as the cheep 100 printers... I don't see any difference.

    Excuse me, could you tell me what version of firmware that factory model has? You can find out by pressing the "back" button on the printer 4 times in a row, or by printing a sheet of the ink status of any cartridge. Some additional cons:
    1. It is so difficult to maintain the print head if the pigment-based ink gets clogs.

    Once my HP 2025 Color Laser runs out of toner I will probably purchase this printer. I print 5,000 pages a year on an HP 4250 Monochrome printer and 500 pages a year on the 2025. I scan 6,000 pages a year on an HP Scanjet Pro 3000 s2. This printer appears it would take over all of those features. I thought the yield on the 972X ink was 10,000 pages at 5% coverage? I am getting conflicting answers on the Cartridge yield. Also since it ships with a 972A cartridge it will be worth the purchase. Is there an option for an additional paper tray? When I purchased the HP 2025 it only had a set of 500 page yield starter cartridges.

      The x477 and X577 are the new versions of the x476 and x576. The old ones are also page wide , they just didn't call it that.
      Differences seems to be (477 vs 476):
      -Higher monthly volume (up from 2800 to 4800 pages per month
      -Faster first page (B/W) from 9.5 to 6.5 seconds
      -No PCl5c support (deprecated)
      -Scanner is faster (25 ppm vs 15-20 of the old one)
      -2 inches shorter in height (18 vs 20)
      -4 pounds lighter (48.9 vs 52.9)
      - It is not faster at printing (55 ppm max same as the old one)
      -Different cartridges. They imply that the ink is actually different but I could not confirm it. Cartridges are not compatible with the old one.

      @@geekazine I checked multiple times on different websites, it's 10 000 black pages and 7000 color pages, so the only way you can end up with 17 000 is by adding them up but it doesn't work that way because black is also used in color prints, so if you do 7000 color prints, you'll only have about 3000 black prints you can still do. Is this how you're ending up with 17 000?

      @@beedslolkuntus2070 That's too much. Even $650 is a lot. The toner cartridges cost almost $80 each so that's another $320 out of your pocket. It would be cheaper to replace the cartridges ONCE, then sell the printer to buy a new one! Ridiculous prices. The home/office printer market is a bit of a scam because the prices have barely become any more affordable in the last FIFTEEN years and that goes for ALL brands: Epson (VERY expensive to use when just looking at the price of the black ink). Canon, hardly better and still behind Epson/HP in terms of picture quality. Brother? They never produced great photos but their ink cartridges seemed cheaper than the competition. Overall, there isn't any that I can recommend.

    I do not understand why someone would want to pay this amount of money to this type of printer when a color laser printer could be purchased for around half the price. If it excelled at photos, that I can see, but the current crop of color laser printers could probably print photos like the way this printer can. Also, there is special glossy paper for laser printers, so the choice of paper is almost equal.

    How does a printer "pay for itself"? None of my stuff pays for itself. My car goes down in value, my computers are worthless after some time. By phone never gave me a nickle but cost me plenty. All these high tech toys suck money they don't pay you.
    I mean the average joe, not a lawyer that bills for using them.

    • @geekazine
      @geekazine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My car has paid for itself several times over because I use it for work. If you didn't have a car or a place to live, you wouldn't have a job. If you don't see the ROI in this printer, then don't buy this printer. Simple as that.

    • @Physics072
      @Physics072 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you get dropped on your head? You can walk to work, ride subway, bike, bus etc.
      You take some of your money to pay for the car or printer. Its an expense, I guess people like to put a deception spin on things to fool them selves into purchasing items. Fine if you buy don't expect the rest of us to buy the fuzzy logic.

    • @geekazine
      @geekazine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are always alternatives. I could forgo the printer and have Kinko's take care of all my printing needs at 2-3x the overall price. Not to mention the time and travel to go pick up these items.
      You're JOB might be simple as taking a bus to and fro, but my BUSINESS sometimes requires me to bring stuff with me. You would not want to be on a bus waiting for me to load - then unload what I need to get my work done.
      Besides, you are splitting hairs on a recommendation. If you need to print out directions or cat photos then there are smaller, economically priced printers that will suit you.
