When you're that age and talking to women online, there's always going to be flirtation; I see nothing wrong with playing the field a bit when simply talking. She stalked him and made the mistake of assuming that he wanted a more serious relationship. He likely saw her insecurities, awkwardness and obsessiveness in person and got turned off.

When I was younger I had a stunning gf. Top 3 hottest in a school of 2000. I got to talking to a girl on the internet and it was different for me. We could talk about anything and know for certain it wouldn't get out to other people. It was an escape. It was fun freeing and sometimes romantic. It's hard to explain. She knew stuff about me noone else knew and vice versa. She took a surprise trip down here and upon seeing her the illusion was busted. It made it too real and those things you say on the internet dont exactly come out cause it's totally... different... It wasnt right of me, but it did feel victimless cause I was pretty sure we'd never meet. I never told her Ii wanted to marry her or anything. I did say I loved her but never said i was in love. And ot was true. I loved her for being there for me. For boosting my spirits. For her jokes and attitude. And I loved being that person for her. I figured that was how it was just always going to be. Internet lovers. I dunno if that makes sense

Nev wasn’t very understanding when the kid said he listens to what his family tells him to do. Maybe Nev was lucky enough to have parents that backed off once he was 18 but not everyone has that. Parents can be super controlling especially at 18 that’s still really young.

I think this was largely the girl's fault for taking an online relationship too seriously. the reveal that he was the actual guy she thought he was but didn't really care about her was pretty much the best case scenario given the facts of the case. she was very disappointed by the near-best-case, so she didn't have realistic expectations at all.

Why do people fall in love with photographs? It's a re-occurring problem we see on catfish. Secondly, how do people have time to be on the phone for hours, for years stringing strangers along? I think what bothers me about max and Nev is that one they go really hard on the ones that aren’t catfish...especially when they are young and still leaving with their parents. Two they seem to try to pressure people to come out(as gay, lesbian, ect.) which is extremely hard to watch. Three they always seem to feel bad for most of the catfishes as soon as they hear a “sad” story. Unfortunately they show isn’t as sincere just more on the lines of being “in your face and give me the details while cameras are in your face” type of show. Both Nev and Max need training on how to deal with different situations because they clearly do not know how to.
