We had a friend who had a stroke and spent the rest of his life in a home, only able to blink. He didn’t live long thank god. My husband made me promise that I’d never let him live like that. We both went through the aids crisis in the 80’s and had a number of friends who suffered badly and he was terrified of hospitals as a result. One morning he woke up with a high fever and by 3am I had to make a choice. The doctor said with the do not resuscitate order, I could follow his wishes and let him slip away or we could fight to save him despite knowing he already had brain damage. Every fiber in my being wanted to keep him with me but I knew how he felt and I couldn’t let him live like that. It was a choice that haunted me for many many years, especially when I’m trying to find a life without him. Even to this day I struggle between knowing I did as he asked and my love for him. So yea, this episode hit especially hard and I bawl every time. You don’t know what sacrifices you are willing to make when faced with the suffering of your soulmate.
Fantastic episode! kudos to the writers and the actors Murray Bartlett as Frank and Nick Offerman as Bill. RIP to Annie Wersching who voiced and did the performance capture of Tess(video game). I like the Bill backstory. And I like that his death change Joel to the point that you can see him opening up to Ellie a little bit. But anyway I can't wait for episode 4 this Sunday. But I hope the rest of your day is enjoyable Allona.
@18:56 we watch Frank painting and Bill watering plants, the exact opposite of his position years ago, where they would argue about "resource management."
It’s important to remember that when the outbreak happened (2003) gay marriage was illegal in every state. Which to me makes the fact that Frank wants to get married before he dies even more powerful. 10/10 episode 💚💙
A beautiful story and a beautifully done episode. Allona, I'm sure Frank has been sick for a long time. In pain and suffering, He was just tired and couldn't endure it any longer. I don't think Frank would have asked Bill to help him if he had any other choice but his hands didn't seem to work well anymore, I think if he could have done it himself he would have.
10/10 Something special! That is how i felt after watching this episode! Not that i had watched something jaw-dropping or mindblowing! Just that i had watched something special that i propably will remember for a long time! This episode really showed the strengt of this series! Giving backstory to the side characters was an excellent idea! The story of Bill and Frank was very human and emotional! I will never forget that Piano-scene! Surprisingly moving! The actors did a fantastic job of creating this unique relationship! I think I shed a tear multiple times! The formular of the show might not be new, but episodes like this, makes it feel fresh and unique! Look forward to it!
Great episode. Now that we have seen Bill getting shot, we know why he owed Joel a favor in the game. Also explains why Bill would have trusted Joel with the code for the fence.
All I can say is... Great reaction! Small side note: I think Ellie needed to dehumanize by cutting the forehead of that infected in the basement so she was able to put it out of it's misery. She wants to have the ability to not feel bad doing it or killing all the infected when it becomes necessary.
I've fought a lot of ignorance when if comes to gay rights. But, I feel I wasted a lot of breath when I watch this episode. Because I feel all I would have to do. Is show the ignorant. This episode. And it would explain it all. Such amazing, storytelling, a love story, and heart felt. Every episode thus far and outdone the last. And I don't know how they are gonna show episode 3 up.
Frank was suffering. He wanted to die and as someone who is deeply in love with a person, you don’t just sit back and watch them suffer……I swear, woman are not equipped to survive something so bad as a pandemic. 😔🤦🏾♂️
@Gabriel Prescott She don’t need a mouth piece. Mr. Simp….And I didn’t come at her. I made a general statement based off of what she said about what she wouldn’t do when it came to making that decision for Frank. 🤦🏾♂️
If this aint love I do not know what is. Such a beautiful love story in the midst of a terrible time.
One thing i know. I love you Allona
They for sure got the best ending tho. They got to find love in a terrible time and go out peaceful and together. Can't say the same for anyone else.
It really is a beautiful episode.
U so beatiful
This has to be one of the best love stories in any series I’ve seen in a very long time. Truly felt so genuine, in a world so lost.

Really loved the changes from the game. Bill's personal journey solidifying Joel's new purpose was beautifully done.
I knew it would be good because of the people involved, but it's actually better than the game.
@@pinklefoo completely agree

Allona's tear ducts: "So I started blasting"

you're underrated Allona... not loud/overreacting, but appropriately funny, very perceptive and emotionally on point
Thank you! ❤
We all want a Bill and Frank when a Zombie Apocalypse starts. They can keep you safe, protected, fed and with real food and a good bed

A pile of stones is called a cairn. They’re memorials for those no longer with us.
Loved this episode, so much. Thank you Niel for giving us more to Bill's story.
Actually, it was Craig who wrote this episode. But yeah, such a beautiful story.

What he was building is called a Cairn. It is a tribute to the fallen that comes from the Scots.
Tissues should come with this show 🥺
She said. No electricity but he got gas.
And then she notices the electric fence. 🤣🤣🤣
