Took Square 500 years to stop the exclusivity
To be fair, Square stuck to a platform based on which had the most potential. Early days of Nintendo made sense due to sheer market dominance they had. And staying for the 16bit with robust sound chip system for Super Nintendo. Then moving on to Sony for the unparalleled specs of CDROM. Staying for PS2 and PS3 for the similar reason with the disc technology. It's only when just recently when technology caught up with all platform which blur the line.
Ya and it's NOT for 'everyone's enjoyment" like they say. It's bc they need more sales, bottom line but that's ok. It's finally all starting to break apart

Lost interest in the PS5 when they started the censorship bullshit.
Paying for exclusivity was more feasible when games didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make. It was less expensive to bring a game to market and they didn't need to sell anywhere near as many copies to start turning a profit. You can argue about whether or not it'd be better to be multiplatform or not, but the point is that you could still turn a profit even selling on only one platform. Nowadays, AAA budgets or so out of control that even with aggressive monetization, battle/season passes, and DLC schemes, not having a game on every platform that can run it day one is basically shooting cutting off your legs and trying to win a sprint against Usain Bolt in his prime.
SquareEnix: These PS5 exclusive games aren't selling well enough. We need a multiplatform strategy.

Consoles aren't making enough buck from exclusives, for years. They are making the most revenue due to Services, PS+, Gamepass, XBox Live, PSnow and Microtransactions.
So what Microsoft is doing is correct then. Almost as if they know what they're doing.

95% of games that are released hit PlayStation and Xbox. If it were so unprofitable to release games on Xbox, nobody would put anything on Xbox. Literally every publisher puts everything on both platforms except SE.

It's funny, Sega announced here lately that Persona and Yakuza/Like A Dragon have become core pillars of Sega. If bringing stuff to other platforms/Xbox is so bad and unproffetable why are games that have had so many entries just now becoming core pillairs.
Can't wait until the FF1-FF6 Pixel Remasters release on Xbox. Been waiting while Switch, PS4/5, PC, and Mobile users got to play those 6 games.

@@alexzandermanning6094 I own a Switch, PS4 and a PC already, but I prefer playing on my Xbox. Despite being an owner of a Switch and PS4, I do not want to buy the Pixel Remasters on those Consoles. Amazing how someone having a preferred gaming device that isn't the same as yours, bothers you.
Pixel remasters is a perfect example of a compilation that should have been multiplat and been on everything.
Square also skimped on the physical release. It was supposed to release physically on PS4 as well but that was cancelled. I imported a physical copy for switch from play asia. Just like i bought a physical copy of ff7/ff8 for switch as well as ffx and x-2, ff12 and ff9.
I can always dump them and play them on steam deck if I want.
But xbox would only benefit from more square titles. Especially when MS did the stupid decision to shut down tango.
So basically ponies are capping for games they don't even play. As a xbox user I'm excited for these titles to come.

Elden Ring has sold 25+ Million thanks to their multiplatform strategy. BandaiNamco hasn’t done PlayStation Exclusivity since 2008 and they’re very successful with it. Take notice Square.

The major thing these “people” don’t understand is JRPGs are niche as it is, by limiting where you release games you stagnate growth of your brand with self inflicted losses in mind share, culture and profits. 300 copies sold on Xbox is a potential 300 more fans that will buy and recommend your games.

And final fantasy games are games are well known enough and established that they could potentially sell well on xbox.

I don't think PlayStation 5 sold 50 million units. Personally, I think the real sales number is 18-20 million. I guess the reason I say this is because when it was released in 2020, PlayStation 5 was never left in stores because it fell into the black market, so the real sales number of the console is 50 million. I think not

Now PlayStation fans know how Nintendo fans felt when the original Final Fantasy 7 was not released on N64 but on PS1. As a result, Nintendo had always focused on first party games after the n64 era, giving them the largest first party franchises library in gaming. But now that all other game companies and even Microsoft are going multiplatform, Nintendo has a big advantage in both third and first party games.
Final fantasy was always a nintendo franchise until sony paid them to keep it only on Playstation. They act like its a playstation franchise now and have the audacity to call out xbox for keeping games on their console that they rightfully own.

When Square puts FF on Xbox. Even if 5 million copies out of the 23 million Xbox users buy it, it will still be a profit. Getting it on PC where there are 300 million gaming PCs, 50 million copies sold would set Square up nicely.

I personally am so happy I am a big fan of ff7 it's my most favorite game of all time I put thousands of hours in this game from original to the remakes I personally have the Xbox X and ps5 and I don't care just where I play but when there's exclusives I am force to play that game on the specific console but now if square releases ff7 on Xbox and pc too and more people to play the game and enjoy it I'll be just happy and not just ff7 but hopefully the whole exclusivity will be over I cannot wait to see a trailer pops up of ff7 for Xbox and pc I think that way every gamer will be happy except the fanboys but who cares about them except themselves

Sonys own financial reports state PS owners don't buy games. Thats why Sony complains about PS' low profitability.
There are several reasons for this...absurdly high development costs for 1st party, absurdly high contract costs for 3rd party exclusivity, a highly casual player base who sees no reason to buy anything other than their one favorite game, etc...but ultimately, the end result is the same.
PS owners don't buy enough games to justify the development costs. XBox has a lower install base but XBox owners also tend to buy more games. Thats partly why XBox profit per console sold has been as much as 5 times that of PS. XBox itself earns more profit than Sony
Sony has higher revenue thanks to its higher install base, but profit is what is important and MS wins that battle, on both an absolute and relative scale.
Sony itself has a problem with exclusivity and is looking to reshape its business model by reducing its reliance on profit draining exclusivity. Its CEO has already talked about embracing more 3rd party options.
If Sony can't do exclusivity, then it isn't surprising that SE cannot either

Console exclusivity is really bad for FF7. You basically needed to buy a PS4 for 7 Remake, a PS5 for Rebirth and probably a PS5 Pro or PS6 to play the last game in the trilogy. Or, you could theoretically just play all of them on a PC.
At this point I'd rather not buy anything out of spite until they get their act together.
