Just look at the numbers, police related deaths (that are genuinely the result of police brutality) is a housecat compared to the elephant that is gang violence. Thousands murdered a year (including small children) versus a handful. But going on a campaign to address this much larger issue and holding your own culture accountable is not as lucrative so here we are.
May his death not be in vain. This goes on every day. Brother against brother and sister against sister. How many more people will die at the hands of another? May we strive to do better to each other and not let this sad tragedy be forgotten. This is another Emmett Till moment all over again but this time not because of racism. Remember evil has no color. It can show up anywhere.

To read such touching tributes of the life of this young man, who most may say is gone too soon but a greater purpose for his life has been fulfilled. It was not by happenstance that Tyre arrived in Memphis and remained due to Covid shutting down most travel and so on. He arrived at an appointed time and that light of a good soul was seen in California was for a while but his true destination was Memphis. As the friends that knew him dearly, shared so many loving memories, two memories shared stuck out for me the most , and that was “he was a beautiful soul”, and “how can a person that was such a light be put out in darkness”. These thoughts are so keen when you hear his mother, describing her son as one who loved to skateboard and taking pictures of sunsets. Those two thoughts give insight to a soul that was light that had wings already in flight as he did so many tricks on his skateboard and the beauty of creation that he felt compel to capture as words could never express the true beauty of what his frames captured through the lens of his own eyes, that he wanted the world to see. We are given roots from birth that develop into the wings of adulthood but I believe Tyre was given wings from birth and left his footprints in the light of his rooted presence that has been left in the hearts of so many. He was a chosen vessel of light that encountered darkness on January 7th that now has been shed abroad in a greater light to shine on what may have never been known what others may have encountered with this scorpion unit. Mr and Mrs Wells, I couldn’t imagine the feeling of losing a child but know that your son in his 29 years has touched more lives in his short lived life than most will in a lifetime. My condolences and deepest sympathy to you and your family. May you all find the strength and continued comfort in the loving arms of our gracious and compassionate Father, who is a stronghold and leaning post for all who come to Him. Tyre will not be forgotten and he is certainly loved even beyond this life. Be blessed

I finally broke down in tears, which is hard to do when you take prozac. I watched his funeral yesterday and watched and listened to all the news about Tyre Nichols death. There is one image and body cam still of Tyre on the ground looking up at the cops with utter terror in his eyes and face. I will not post it. That image is etched into my mind and will be with me for as long as I live. I am so angry, appalled and horrified that any human being can be beaten to death by police while others looked on and did nothing. Tyre Nichols life mattered and he will not be forgotten. Not by me. American people are fed up with it all and I hope all involved in the death of this young man and father know the terror and horror I saw in his face. I don't care what color you are, evil is evil and what happened to Tyre was pure evil. The kind of things you expect from NAZI's. These police officers are not any better than the "morality police" we saw in Iran, Judge, Jury and executioners.

People need to remember the great struggle that open doors for black folks in power today. it's easy to forget and to think you did all on your own but the older generation went through many challenges that opened doors and made it easier for us to have a seat at the table. Just be fair and respect where you came from.

He couldn't follow that order - he was being held. He was already on the ground. And what is your excuse for them punching and kicking him when he was handcuffed? They gave 71 sometimes conflicting orders in the space of about 3 minutes - who the hell could comply? They ripped him violently from his car and started the abuse before he had a chance. And examination of recordings from cameras in the area show no sign that Tyre did anything to be pulled over for.
