Wonderful tutorial Glenice...it's great to see you teach the passing tones and melody lines walking from chord to chord....a sort of lost art in guitar playing..thank you for sharing and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
I think about tetra chords and functional harmony. Some songs don't always go to the tonic chord so you have to rely on the context of the chords your given. A good example is the verse of tear drops by Womack and Womack which is in the key of b despite never resolving.
I know a little of the basic theory, so I listen to the song one or two times. Actively. I find the chord progression by following the bass. Then I follow the melody trying to figure out the full chords. Since I'm not that trained in theory, I might take longer than someone who is... But I like your approach because it's effective and simple.
Awesome! Thank you. As for me, there are❤ very basic things I need to figure out to hit the new level I want. There is always a price to pay. The Lord continue to bless you. SHALOM!❤❤❤
Very nice. Are you just playing the chords of that scale or are you adding others. This requires a lot of knowledge of the retention chords that have been learned.
So the question is…how do I figure out the progression of a song without having to ask the piano player? Do I listen to the bass? How I figure it out for myself cause with the real churchy songs…it’s hard!! And frustrating
I personally rely heavily on my ear. Sometimes you can listen to the bass line especially with the churchy songs. Give me a song example and we can try and work through it together
You will have to use your ear. Also, songs usually end on the root. Listen for the bass note on the last chord of the song. This usually will be your root. Not always but usually.
You also can use the low E string, starting with the 1st-the 4th fret(F, F#, G etc) also the A string, starting with the open A string-the 6th fret of the A string (open A, B flat, B, C etc-on those strings you should find the key of the song, keep in mind that the song make change key, just the process again, hope that helps
So beautiful melodies you play glenice love from Srilanka pearl of the Indian Ocean
WOW!!! Thanks so much🙏🏾

You are so good and smooth! I don’t play but enjoy your confidence and style.
Thank you so much!
By any chance you can post your chords on your channel when you play a song please. Thanks 😊
You make it look so easy……❤
Thank you! Many decades of practice and playing!
Thank you my dearest sister, am inspired 🤗🤗
Thanks Pastor Jones in Mississippi
You are most welcome.
I learned piano first before guitar, sometimes I outline it on piano then transfer it to guitar, that is my approach (sometimes)
That's a great approach!
@ It goes vice versa too, sometimes I figure it out on guitar and then transfer it to piano 🙌😃

For the most part the song is very straight forward and I am playing the corresponding major scale chords.
@@gleniceglover8502 Ah, so learning those chords are manageable. Thanks, that's what I'm working on now.

@ joy bells keep ringing in my soul. I can hear the one all day but everything else nope. No clue what the next number is
thanks for the video.how do you know what the root note is once you search for it?
