    I love, especially as timpanist, Strauss will sit the orchestra on a tonic chord as the timpanist rolls the Dominant. So much of this in Four Last Songs as well.

    Great analysis - as a violinist Don Juan, especially the opening, is an intense challenge but is always worth the effort!

      Thank you, that opening is so common at orchestra's auditions. Really hard to make it sound clean indeed but so beautiful!

      @@emanuel_soundtrack hard to answer, it's a bit of a wide question but it definitely proved very useful as far as getting to know Strauss' harmonic language and orchestral techniques in depth goes. In fact, I wrote my dissertation about this very topic, after making these reductions and analysing them. I might make a series about it one day.
