I know its such a weird wives tale! I think the argument is that the water evaporates resulting in less water over all and thus quicker freezing, but that just doesn't happen enough to matter.
Hey Sam, I like the aluminum water crocks that you use. Do you have any advice on where to find them because I looked on Amazon without any luck. Thanks!🙏Poppy
Do you have any suggestions to prevent the rabbits from spilling the water/flipping their bowls? I have two Flemish Giants that just LOVE flipping their water dish. I sometimes work 12hr shifts so I worry they aren’t drinking enough water some days. **they’re kept in an outdoor shelter in Michigan so we get some cold temps.
That's tough because those are some big rabbits. I would use the biggest croc I could. As long as they are getting two or three good drinks a day they should be ok.
I use 2 quart rubber crocs, I got sick of taking them inside to thaw so these I can easily bust the ice outside, they're also pretty big and won't get flipped.
Are you asking if you can breed a buck with his daughter? If so then the answer is it depends. Inbreeding (which is breeding closely related animals together) concentrates genetics that are already there. This means that any positive traits or negative traits will be concentrated in the young. Its a good way to see what genetics your rabbits are carrying. I will make a video later this week about it.
i appreciate all your helpful videos while im getting my own rabbitry started! it looks like a 4" cast aluminum crock at bass equipment is $10 +shipping. that seems pretty spendy. i found a rubber crock for a bit less that looks like it would work well and be hard for rabbits to move around the cage. is there anything else about the water bowls you have that would make it worth the high price?
Bass is on the pricier side, but cast aluminum is not a cheap material. But rubber will not last long, the rabbits will chew it to pieces. Unlike ceramic you can bang metal crocs to remove ice, and unlike iron aluminum won't rust. I have tried a lot of different watering systems, and at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I think the product is worth the extra few bucks. Note on Bass, read their shipping page. They used tier dollar value shipping. Ex. up to $50 is the same cost to ship, so batch your orders to save.
I take a bucket a gallon bottle of Luke warm water and a watering can full of hot water. Hold the metal water bowl upside down over the bucket. Pour over the hot water. Bang the metal bowl if the ice doesn’t drop on its own. Refill with Luke warm water. Done w/o an extra trip.
Thank you for your content. Ive been really wanting to get into meat rabbits and I currently live in michigan, so conditions are similar for sure. Ty
Thanks for watching! Don't be afraid to jump in!
Great video, as for hot water freezing faster, that isnt possible. Lets say 10°C vs 20°C to 0. The 20° water has to reach 10° before reaching 0°.

I use metal dog bowls that are harder to flip. The ones that have a flare out ward on the bottom.

Hello, I want to ask if I can let my father's daughter go for little bunnies and if I will regret this decision. Will there be any anomalies.

I use Pyrex bowls. They can take a fair beating.
