I met Tony Randall, shook his hand and told him how much I loved him...I was just a teen. He was running the streets of NY with Bella Abzug when she was campaigning for office. What a genuinely quirky and wonderful guy. 💜
I saw Tony Randall walk past me in Central Park once back in the 80s. I left him alone but he had a smile and walked straight with good posture and that energy in his walk. I couldn’t help thinking it wasn’t Tony, it was Felix.
The Gremlins were on the other night, and Tony Randall was voicing for one of the evil Gremlins. One of my favorite lines in the movie was when Tony says in that great oratory voice 'New York, New York, the city so nice they named it twice.'
Tony was an extraordinary conversationalist. His skills as an actor hinged upon his ability to listen and respond accordingly with exactly the appropriate timber and intonation. An unusual talent in that respect.
roweenie I wish tv today had as much class as Johnny Carson and the Tonight Show. A little innuendo went a long way in those days, they certainly didn't have to be vulgar to get laughs either. Oh how I miss really good television.
Well, when Jeff Goldblum is on with Conan, we get some lively repartee. Also, when Molly Shannon visits with Conan, it's always something special. And Martin Short is probably the best talk show guest. He's best with Conan; but his appearances on any talk show bring the viewer back to the Carson days.
Mr. Randall is right bout “lucky to have a hit” cuz he never had a hit after “Odd Couple” again. I had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a kind, gracious man to me.
BLECH! Fashion wise, the 70's was the worst decade I lived through. My father had one of those jackets too. I'm also a bit embarrassed to say, so did I even though I was a little kid. I recently found a picture of me with my grandmother and I was wearing that jacket. I laughed my ass off for 5 minutes! 🤣
Even in later years when he made frequent appearances on the David Letterman show, Tony Randall was riotously funny and had everyone rolling in the aisles with his wit and humor.
I wholeheartedly agree. I still watch an episode almost every day. Tony Randall might be my favorite all time actor in comedies. That's no slight to Jack Klugman who was also fantastic.
@@jonhohensee3258 that's fine, to each their own, but Johnny Carson is widely considered to be extremely funny, so you are in the minority here sweetie.

He was right too! He DID marry his high school sweetheart when he was 18 and they remained married until she died. Randall is a man after my own heart! At 75, he married a 25 year old woman and even had 2 kids with her! Believe it or not, Rudy Giuliani married them! LOL
Tony Randall is so underrated! His career is filled with major movies and he's worked with major Hollywood stars. He plays the starstruck fan so well that people believed it was true!
"Underrated"?? Tony Randall had a career that lasted nearly 60 years. He did everything-radio, television, theater and films, nominated for 7 Emmy and 5 Tony awards. He made 105 appearances, on "The Tonight Show", more than any other guest. Hardly "underrated"!
Tony must've been a real humble man . And loyal / faithful. To have been so popular and never fooled around. Celebrities have had many opportunities. I think he was married near 50 yrs .
There were still stations that were not hooked up to the satellites that still used kinescopes up until the 1980s (Usually in the out of the way places)
Public morality had not yet sank to today's sub level, therefore the comedic intensity or shock value reflects 1974, not today. The real shock should be how far we have sank since this time and we are still plummeting - that's the real sadness.
@ 9:13 Johnny, someone shoot me please.😆 Tony Randall dedicated a significant amount of time to voice training, studying with renowned voice coach Henri Jacobi as part of his acting education, which is why his distinctive, clear, and articulate voice was so well-known throughout his career. Key points about Tony Randall's voice training: Formal training: He studied voice with Henri Jacobi, a recognized expert in the field. Importance of voice in his acting: Randall's roles often relied heavily on his vocal delivery, making voice training a crucial part of his craft. Distinctive voice quality: His well-trained voice was known for its clarity, projection, and unique timbre.
I watched an episode of Carson from 1990 and Randall was on. He came out and kissed Ed on the cheek then as well. It's not gay, it's admiration and affection. Simple as that.

$30 for a haircut in '74?? I had one last week in 2020 for $23.00, and that included a generous tip!
$30 in 1974 is about $160 in 2020
