    What is amazing to me is they gave us 6 voices. There have been too many 4 voice synths, that not enough for a traditional 2 hand chord voicing. As a pianist having 6 is the very minimum every poly synth should have. And the size is just a huge plus too, most 6+ voice synths are usually huge.

    • @inkajoo
      @inkajoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never thought about that but you're so right. 5 notes + bass.

    • @kinetic-cybernetic
      @kinetic-cybernetic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To me also as a pianist it's cool to think of the synth as a different thing - piano and organ are made to produce bass, harmony and melody at the same time, but with a synth it's more common to program a specific bass sound, a specific harmony sound and a specific melody sound. That's why I'm ok with 4 voices polys but I'd be definitely open to exploring using 2 of those 3 elements at the same time and with the same sound.

    • @Fawdz
      @Fawdz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very well said, I absolutely NEED two voices for octave or fifths bass, and four for some jazz chords on the treble end. I had a Sequential Take 5 for a bit and ultimately sold it because I was tired of the voice stealing.

    • @calcairecamhi
      @calcairecamhi 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do play basses with my feet and (try) two different melodies with my hands, or chords+melody. I that case, 6 falls a bit short, 8 is minimum. Anyway, I'd be satisfied with the Nymphes (despite the terrible UI), first bcuz it sounds marvelous, second having limits tickles creativity, eh ?@@Fawdz

      @@rookmaster7502 Everything is relative. For an analog polyphonic synthesizer this thing is most definitely cheap, especially considering it's 6-voice, while alternatives like the Minilogue and Poly D only have four voices.
      Deepmind 6 is the only one I can think of that has the same number of voices at a similar price point. Nymphes still costs less (here in the EU at least) than all of those mentioned, except for the (4-voice) OG Minilogue.

    I had ruled out the Nymphes based on watching other videos, but watching your explorations changed my mind. You approached this from a very different standpoint. You tried to make this thing your own, instead of obsessing about how close ot a Juno you could make it. You did some cool, experimental modulations, like with the lfo subtly affecting the frequency that nobody else bothered with. And you just made it SOUND different. I SO appreciate this video. Liked and subscribed.

      Honestly, Benn's vid is the same reason I picked it up as well. Other reviews/demos on TH-cam were kind of lame. Only using it for ambient stuff is a complete abuse of this wonderful little box. The presets kinda suck too, but they're whatever. I don't buy an analog synth with all these parameters just to stick to presets anyway. It's definitely a worthwhile little synth.

      @@CarlitoProductions Well I bought it and I'm very happy! The UI has been easy to learn. It's still way better than my Blofeld and it's four pots for 10000 menus. Ofc the options and the sounds are totally different on both units otherwise.
      What did you by then ?
      I bought the Nymphes as my first analog polysynth. Truth is I never played any other analog poly, just a few mono like Matriarch, Sub37, Korg Minilogue and Behringer's Moog

    Dreadbox are selling a USB splitter for the Nymphes on their store for pretty cheap. Also, Tim Shoebridge built a cool software controller plugin that works as a module inside Cherry Audio Voltage Modular. He made an extra module that lets other Cherry Audio modules control parameters on the Nymphes.

    Whenever I see a new musical device I immediately Google its price tag to see if it's GAS worthy. When I saw that it was $599 my GAS was deflated like an old balloon. Then I heard it perform and the balloon instantly inflated again. In fact, it burst! The Nymphes has got an amazingly BIG synth sound, so I have to agree that it does have potential, especially for those of us with limited (read crowded) space. If you're a minimalist then you must be in 7th heaven thinking about the possibilities it can afford you. I was truly amazed! Thanks for your review!

    Sounds amazing. It’s interesting the psychological effect size has. We all have instinctive have the idea about the physical size of the synth should affect the sound (I know I do). But the main board on, say, a Juno from the mid 80s isn’t much bigger than a Nymphes and Roland and Oberheim were cramming full polysynths into rack mount units - admittedly without the controls…

    Dreadbox kills it every time. I have the Typhon - monosynth with 32 step sequencer and stereo digital effcts by Sinevibes - and it slaps. A little cheaper than the Nymphes, but sounds incredible and has a wealth of possibilities. Worth checking out.

    • @InnerVisions68
      @InnerVisions68 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have many synths, and it is one of my very favorites. I agree. It’s fantastic. Imagine a polyphonic, four to six-voice version of the Typhon, with effects by Sinevibes, and matching knob-based interface, maybe a screen with four times the overall area (twice as wide, twice as tall), in both a module, and a keyboard version, with aftertouch.
      Being able to modulate effects parameters as part of patches on the Typhon is badass, too. Not just presets assigned to patched, but being able to use effects parameters as modulation destinations, sourced by the LFO, for instance, is a great feature, as well.

    • @InnerVisions68

      @@InnerVisions68 the fact that with all those features, it is also USB powered is a game changer. Over the Summer when I was taking my son to his dance classes, I would just sit in the car with the Typhon, powerbank, and headphones, and blissfully just make patches... and I wouldn't even notice that an hour or two had flown by!

    • @InnerVisions68
      @InnerVisions68 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewpeterscello I feel you 100%. Same. I have a nice powerbank and headphones, and can sit in the park and even just tweak patches - turn knobs and tweak the effects parameters sliders. Typhon is special. It’s a gem and a treasure.
      And, for others reading this, I am not a shill. 😂 Try one, buy one, and you will experience how special it is, and what an amazing value it is. And now that USB that can power it via power bank, and, of course, that can transmit MIDI, can also send digital audio directly to your DAW. And blah blah blah. It’s a badass.

    I'm so obsessed with the sound of this thing. It fits into its pocket super well, maybe not the most versatile but it sounds gorgeous especially as an analog poly for the price point. If anyone has one collecting dust and needs someplace to donate it ;) (sorry i'm a ho for synths)

    as someone who is vaguely interested in music and bought the teenage engineering POM-400 (partially a mistake as I don't really have much else I can use to really get good use from it) OHMG I want all this equipment why do you do this to me I'm saving for a PC and it's over 1300 CAD just for three of those things ;-; (I can't find that rooms pedal I have no idea where to find it, granted I looked for a grand total of like 5 mins) AWESOME demos man, I love them every time with your review videos

      @James Levine update! I was able to save up and got a keystep black and the nymphes! Couldn't find the pedal but wow. Never thought I'd be able to order anything like that I'm terrible with money lol

    The sound of raw saw wave @4:07 is PHAT enough to claim its place among big boys of synthesizers. Can't believe this is happening within such small size, selling for USD 499/- currently (Oct-2022)

    It's funny the size is the thing that puts me off about it! Sounds fantastic (and you really make it shine!!) but I like hardware because it's tactile. A little bit bigger, a knob per function, ditch the short throw sliders - happy days!!

    Combine a Dreadbox Nymphes with a Dreadbox Typhon and you'll have some awesome stereo effects with the Typhon.

    The solution for noisy usb gear is either smart powercable arrangement (can take hours but for starter do you a favour an plug in all the audiogear with your computer to the same powersocket...) and if its still annoying buy a Behringer HD400 (about 30 $) and plug this between your Master Out and your Monitor(control). Just mention it because that's exactly all I did the last 2 Days with a new hum...Spoiler alert: Its was my new washing machine, when it was spooling..)

    Tremendous. Now do the Typhon.
    I have watched countless videos on these and still watch more as they pop up from decent creators.
    Cheers.

      The Typhon is even better than this, if we’re allowed to compare monophonic to poly.
