I've been interested in trying GrapheneOS but the one question I had was if/how I could go back to stock if it didn't work out for me. So many of the guides covering the OS don't cover this point so thank you for doing so and doing it so clearly!

You can also do this if your device is corrupted and the reset won't fix it restoring the Image will reinstall android

Good question using the android flash tool it normally should unlock the bootloader it's self
If your device is locked completely and your unable to unlock it then your screwed

Yeah finally someone mentions it... Because I was thinking... If your trying to hide from the NSA or some nation state actor it's very possible that the low level baseband and sim operating systems can still track you or activate the camera etc since everything is integrated you would have to build your own IC's to circumvent this lol.

Your videos are very informative, and the way you present the info is laid back and easy to follow. I might give Graphene OS a shot down the road, but in the meantime, could you go through how you would set up the phone to be as secure as possible while still Googelfied? Thank you! And I'll give that some thought! I suspect it may be quite difficult, if not impossible, if only because Google logins are so embedded in the OS that unless you have created a brand new account and ensure that you don't ever log in to any other systems that are tied to your actual identity, it will be virtually impossible to have a functional device that allows you to get things done the way that you need to without revealing everything about yourself. The other issue is that while you might turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, these functions are not likely actually respected by the OS itself, same as web and search history, location history, logins and downloads, etc. I've actually set up my Pixel again with the stock ROM temporarily just for work (a video will be out tomorrow about this little detail in GOS) and it's clearly impossible to remain private in this OS. You cannot sign in to one app with one account and another app with a second account without indicating to the second app that you are also the first account (terrible wording, but I hope that's clear!)
Again, I'll give it more thought, but I'm not certain from a privacy standpoint there's much to be done. As for security, however, stay up to date with apps and the operating system, and make sure you use a great password. To be most secure, don't use facial recognition (easier to be spoofed) and any time you are on a traffic stop or at an airport, restart your device (disabled all biometric authentication, ensuring better security)!
You saved my life but I am more insterested in flashing the Ubuntu touch on my phone sadly I would need Android9 but custom rom anyway Graphene OS would be fine the issue I had is I sort of deleted the original os completely so this should fix it thanks..

I flashed graphene OS yesterday. I flashed it because they said just about everything would work that I'm used to as Long as I installed their Google services. None of my banking apps work. Which is a huge issue for me. So now I'm going back which sucks because I actually liked the granule nature of permissions

I have a pixel 6a which is stuck on the Google loading screen as the stock os for some weird unknown reason got corrupt. Data factory reset does not work. So i came to this video to flash the stock firmware however it will eventually say" device unlock disabled, for security reasons you need to enable OEM unlocking in order to flash your device. Sigh what do I do now ?
Bro OEM Unlocking means you need to unlock the bootloader to be able to Flash the firmware. You did not follow the instructions correctly my guy! Let me know if you need still help fixing your 6a

Is it possible to change the variant of my device ? I think my device is Japan variant and there is no option to turn off the camera shutter sound.

Your device appears to be in use by another program (for example: command line adb). If you use command line adb you may have to run adb kill-server. Closing and reopening you browser may also help resolve this issue.
I have a perhaps out of context question about your video. have bought a used pixel 6 with locked by mdm. my question is by reinstalling the factory rom will it remove the mdm lock?

Unfortunately in my country i can't buy Google pixel 7 pro, So im planning to get it from outside my country. But i have heard that the 5G networks on this phone officially doesn't support all the networks on the planet, so is there is a way to enable the 5G network unofficially?
That's an interesting question. I'm going to assume not... It doesn't mean you can't flash the baseband if the radio channels exist on the modem itself, but it appears that (at least the US one) supports:

So if you're looking at a device locally, I would check out if one of these will meet your carrier's needs and verify the specific model before purchasing, but unfortunately if the bands or frequencies aren't built in, it won't be possible to unlock them.

Thanks!! Yes it is, though you may first need to have Verizon unlock the device to allow OEM unlocking. There are other videos about that to make it easy on you!

is it possible to do it on a Pixel-3a? I have to downgrade the installed Android-12 back to Android-9 so that I can install Ubuntu-Touch - it depends on Android-9; this combination Pixel-3a/3aXL with Android-9 is the best System I found to run Ubuntu-Touch.
Thus far its going great just one problem though, my pixel 3xl keeps restarting even when i put it in fastboot mode. kindly assist with instructions

I wouldn't lol I use GOS every single day and recommend it any chance I get. But some folks don't love it and want to restore. Resetting GOS can be done within the settings app, same as any other Android ROM! 👍

probably you have a carrier unlocked phone, not from the factory. Verizon phones will never work

Only the carrier and Google can unlock them. Most new (8 & 9) devices are unlocked by default I've noticed.
Hey Joel, I too de-Googled my Pixel 3AXL and it just didn't work out, but it was easy to reinstall Android 12. My question now is in 2023, some apps have updated to past Android 12 and they're no longer compatible. I was wondering if you could advise if you think flashing Android 13 would help that situation and would you use a custom ROM and if so which one? I really don't know too much about custom ROM's and if they'd fix my out of date phone issues. Thanks!

Congrats, again! And $250/mo. That is ROBBERY. S%&@! And Mint uses the T-Mobile network, which is what we have for our internet and phones, and it's pretty fantastic, VERY fast. I'd say give it a shot. Worst case, switch carriers, but we haven't had issues. MUCH faster and more consistent than Verizon in my experience!

Just bought an "unused 🤦🏻♀️" pixel 5 off some dude, but it actually has some custom rom installed. Fastbootmode doesnt come up for me automatically and the website says to download android usb driver. Someone with actual experience told me to just return the phone while i still can and not risk trying to restore google's operating system. I think whats installed is AOSP on redfin. Thoughts? Good chance of makin his work or trust my friend's advice? Absolute noob here obv 😢

Oh man thank god it only happened because of a wrong update. Now that I have updated my phone again to Android 14 beta version it is working great.

Does your pixel 7 feel 🔥 hot? I have used both the 6 and 7 and these phones seem to run hotter than other androids. Just wondering what's been your experience.
Mine gets a little warmer while charging, but not during my normal use that I've noticed. I do usually have a case on, but I don't feel it otherwise through the display, if that helps.
