Uhraine, as a fellow Jamaicans I believe you should understand the definition of the word racism. Racism is a system that exalts whiteness and put policies in places to systematically discriminate, oppress and undermine persons of colour.
I am not minimizing your experience and I am sorry it happened.
I work with folks that are precariously housed. The other day I went to court with a client and on my way back from court. I passed an older homeless white guy and he called me the n word with a hard r. Two days ago, I was working at the shelter and one of the residents (a white female) called me the n word with a hard r because I wasn’t bending to her demands.
I called the cops to remove her from property and she continued to call me the racial slur in the presence of the police. No cares or f$&k given.
She was lucky the other residents were asleep because she is a fairly new resident and I blame management for their ineptness in the situation because the signs were there.
I, empathize with my native brothers and sisters. If you had some insight into their struggles and plights. You would understand the whys.
A lot of mental health issues that are unresolved and unaddressed by the inept government but that is another story.
As I have stated, I am sorry you had that experience.
Mental health is a huge issue here.
Again you experienced prejudice and not racism. Does these individuals have power to undermine and oppress you?
