Agree with most points. However, not being enthusiastic is not a characteristic of a good interview. Sometimes your interview goes very well and you don't hear back because people who interviewed you were biased.

I just went through 3 rounds of interviews and completed a work sample, everything was great, but I didn't get it. I'm bothered that they put me through 3 long rounds of interviews over a month and I didn't get it... Anyone else encounter this? I thought multiple rounds of interviews was a good thing. Your point about the culture fit seems to be what happened. It's not a good feeling.. it's like going back to the school cafeteria and that one table says "You can't sit with us".

Happened to my husband at some point and he called back to ask as the last time he spoke with the boss he basically told him he had the job and he was supposed to call him back, another person with more years of the EXACT experience they were looking for just appeared right after they had spoken. Just no common courtesy to call the person back to say hey sorry we found someone else , so you never know really 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did, an entire day onsite interviewing with all senior staff....after 3 other phone and zoom interviews. I was told Im the #1 pick by the recruiter....then I waited and waited and waited. For 4 weeks I waited and I had to hound the recruiter for an answer. They rejected me! I put it all on the recruiter, she didnt help me and actually botched my chances......I was devastated as this was a dream job for me.

Yeah the extent that some people go into being friendly in business is weird sometimes
In as far as how often people switch jobs, this is a skill that will be revisited. Greaaaat

I tried last option, they said no concerns and all smiles. But so tough to see if they come back or not. Interviewers are so good need to go into hollywood. They are wasting their talent here.

The culture fit thing is so difficult for me. I always suits everywhere, but nowadays I’m getting interviewed by people in sports jerseys while the job I’m interviewing for requires suit and tie while performing the duties.

Thank you very much for your videos - I have watched many of them and recently landed a role after a career break for a year - it's definitely not easy to get a job when you are not in a job - your advice is practical, well presented and very engaging - and even though I have a new role now, I still listen to your videos because they are so encouraging! Thank you, thank you, thank you. For the job seekers out there, do not lose hope - you got to keep trying - I was inspired by the life story of actors who had door after door closed on them and they still persisted - you will definitely not get a job if you stop trying - Keep at it! Good luck everyone

Thanks, you made some good points to remember. I've been watching all week long, I'm so tired of scrolling through INDEED. I feel like I'm wasting my time and money. The dilemma comes when the job I really want is "on hold for the time being" and the upcoming interview pays well, I'd probably like it, but is a LOT of driving in my own car. I wouldn't want it more than two years, and I'd feel horrible if I left after six months if the other job hired me and I had to leave. I really hate all of this. Re-imagining my future over and over. Los Angeles homes are also a problem.

Thank you Don for your advice! Although I am on the entry level side, I have a lot to offer. I tend to undersell myself and that has not landed me further interviews. I feel enthusiasm can be addressed if you are applying to the right company for your goals. Culture does seem tricky!

I have a degree in environmental Biology and I’ve been through I dunno how many interviews but I keep getting told “they went with someone they felt was more qualified” and I am so sick and tired of hearing that just once, just once I don’t wanna hear that for a job I actually want!

Hey Michael, what I can tell you is, I have been there. Do not give up or lose faith, continue applying and polishing your interviewing skills. Eventually there will be a company that will see the value in you and will extend an offer. Trust me! Prepare, prepare, prepare, can't stress that enough.

One of your videos said to be excited about the interview and show that. Out of X+ interviews, there was only ONE interviewer who felt that I was too energized. The Project manager kept saying "we are looking for a calmmmmmm, calmmm, calm person". Go figure.
Your suggestion about using the fitting in question is an excellent one. It takes a lot of anxiety out of waiting to hear from them.

Cenot4ph yes actual experience is definitely worth it. But I found out that most of my classmates got a job right after graduating with a bachelor’s in engineering when I was still struggling to find a job. I found out that changing my name fixed the problem, I no longer struggle because my name is white now. I’m no longer profiled by these companies. This is sad

    Hey Don,
Thank you for the valuable insight, the ability to have the interviewer visualize you working at the organization through a pointed question is something I had not considered before. When mentioning this and receiving reservations regarding experience. What is a way to display despite a lack of experience (with only SOME of the job requirements) the capacity, interest, and enthusiasm to learn?
    Thank you!

  • @angelabolton4478

Or, maybe you're female. I have been through 50 interviews in about three years. I am enthusiastic, well spoken, show how I am valuable, experienced and qualified via education as well. I never get the job, though I am often a finalist. I can't overcome being female. Men will always be hired first. Your advice is reasonable to a point but until you acknowledge that men are biased toward hiring and promoting men, you're misleading people.

    • @DonGeorgevich
      @DonGeorgevich  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

you comments presuppose that men in some mysterious way out rank you and that men hire only men. that's just BS. Gender makes no difference in my hiring decisions and that's true for most men. Sure, a few will be biased, but for the most part, if you are the best person for the job, man or woman, it's yours.

@@angelabolton4478 Naaa, probably not. Most likely because I just wasn't a good fit. Nothing more, nothing less. That's probably why you don't get hired, try not to have a victim mentality. Btw, you seem like a very angry person, I would recommend working on that....good luck!
