I once met a man who lost 3 wives over the space of 9 years.
I said, "I'm so sorry, that's so unfortunate. What happened?".
Gloomily, he replied, "My first wife died after eating some poisonous mushrooms..."
Then, "..My second wife died after eating some poisonous mushrooms."
"That's so bad...", I said, "..and the chances of the same thing happening again must be millions to one!"
"Yes, indeed.", the man said.
I had to ask him, "What did your last wife die of?"
"A broken neck.", he replied.
"Oh, no. I'm so sorry to hear that...", I said, "..How did it happen?"
The man looked me directly in the eye and replied, "She wouldn't eat the mushrooms!"

They bank on you paying in more than you get out. Endowment policies used to be popular but are now not offered any more. Pure life insurance is cheaper to manage and more profitable as inflation eats away at your payout. I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.
