My favourite thing about Nergigante is, that, if it didn't notice you and you watch it for a while, it just behaves like a massively oversized dog, which makes it one of my favourite monsters for that fact alone.
I feel like one of the most important factors that make nergigante so good is because of how mhw stepped up the scales of mh, by putting more emphasis on the ecology and story
I might be completely wrong, but I think hellfire was explained as a gas that magnamalo creates as it kills monsters. Maybe it has some kind of organ that holds some of the flesh it consumes and ferments it into hellfire. But again, I could be completely wrong about that explanation.
My biggest issue is whenever it outlflies a monster, it's turf wars are 100 percent ridiculous and I lose to my faculties trying to comprehend how this creature works when everything it has is just kinda dumb Ina way a 10 yr old making an op character in a playground would go through. In a way, that's super cool, and I can see why people like it but as a flagship, not for me. It's even a joke early on that he was just a bunch of things a lot of other successful flagship did in a cat shell.
Actually Nergigante wasn't on the cover of Monster Hunter World, at least in the west. For some reason they decided to put Rathalos on the western cover once again, so I don't think you can necessarily credit Nergigante for World's succes per se.
@@XxTheCupidKidxX no, you've got it backwards. Nergigante absolutely is World's flagship, he just wasn't used for the western cover. Same happened with 3U: Brachydios was the flagship and was used in the Japanese cover, but for some reason Capcom decided to put Azure Rathalos on the western cover.
@@Taikomo I think the same thing happened in 4u as well. Seregios is the flagship for 4u but they used the cover with Gore Magala in the western release. All the fated 4 have their own cover for generations but Glavenus is the most used one as far as I know.
On an aside, I hope the next game commits more to integrating supplementary material within gameplay. It's great that they've been expanding on the bones of lore with meat like Espinas fighting Kushala, but it be even nicer if there wasn't divides like the lore saying: "Oh man Alatreon and Safi'jiiva are arch-rivals!" meanwhile the game says: "LOL they never meet, go fight Barioth with a beard." To the topic at hand, I'll keep with Nergigante. I like its concept, spike reproduction aside, as a grizzly bear of a dragon whose position of carnivory is both a boon to the environment, culling elders where it can, whilst still maintaining the potential for threatening influence, by its own violent acts or potentially driving its prey into vulnerable ecosystems. If it reappears in the next game, hopefully they adjust its AI to a Deviljho-esque mode where if another elder dragon is present Nergigante will fixate on attacking it, or rushing to feed on the carcass when the player disposes of it.
It seems there’s a lot of debate over magnamalo’s design and his hellfire and all that so I want to explain some stuff Hellfire: produced by the consumption of other monsters and it’s digestive system will turn it into a highly explosive gas it uses offensively. The whole hellfire is souls thing is because it comes from those consumed so the energy consumed is the “soul” of a monster, not actual soul Horns: a magnamalo’s horns are used as a way for mates to determine a good mate, the larger a magnamalo’s horns, the more likely it is to find a mate. These horns can also not be grown again which makes a scorned magnamalo, a magnamalo that lost it’s horns and cannot find a mate, thus it gets very angry Back spikes: the reason they suddenly appear when he enrages is because he “switches” them up to dispel more hellfire Arm blades: no canon explanation yet but I theorize they came as a result of flying wyvern ancestors and he uses it as a pivot to get better turns He’s heavily armored because he is in constant need of food which means he’ll have to dive into the rampage and have to find elders to consume which likely needs a lot of armor, without any food, he loses hellfire and one of his major hunting methods Hopefully this cleared up some things for those that don’t understand his lore in the comments Fun fact: you seem him dispel his hell fire randomly in a zone without any target because too much hellfire could damage him from the inside
I like the simple ones the most. Raw Strength is the best. So Nergigante and Tigrex are my favorites followed by Malzeno who isn't simple but very very cool.^^ I hope the next game gives us Neopteron or Temnoceran Flagship Monster.
I think Magna should have been at least around top 10, the reason is because it does have really flushed out ecological and has a reflection in Nergi. Magna’s “souls” are actually based on real world hellfire which is ignited decaying animals matter. Magna hunts a ton monsters and eat their bones as a way to fuel his fire! It looks that way to show how it needs to protect itself against all of its foes which is really cool and similar to Nergi!
Actually Magna for me is way better than nergi honestly, everybody tell me nergi is important to world story because he is a balance mechanism of nature devouring elder dragons ecc but... Nah... if he was at least 10% efficient as it should be I would have found half of the elders in my journey dead, he just pretend to be cool while I do his job... Magnamalo however...geez conceptually is a true cool af abomination (deviljho style) the single fact he developed a pesudo dragon element by being really good at his job (not like nergi) consuming ton monster flesh with their bioenergy too and channel those resources in eccess to evolve and become more deadly is frightening, then scorned shows up and he was able to develop true dragon element escalating things even more, on the combat perspective magna take the n1 prize period, not even mentioning scorned.
@@rurikthehunter8811 I agree with this 100% and I was trying to be as unbiased as possible. The top 5 for me are Rathalos, Magnamolo, Malzeno, Espinas, and finally Zinogre. Don’t get me wrong I love all the monsters I have ever seen but these 5 left an impression, Rathalos is particularly because me Playing Stories as my first game with Rise being the first game I finished in Mainline seeing him in a different perspective.
@@thethunderousstar-knight8010 yes rathalos is cool, I see people bored to see him but I can't imagine a monster hunter game without it, he was always here, a piece of history, a reminder of where all started and how much road the franchise and us have crossed, evolving every game. I don't really have a list of best monsters I love because almost every one is a mark of true aestetic craftsmanship, the only exceptions are tigrex and nargacuga who for me will be forever the apexes of creature concept, starting with freedom unite is not a surprise I really love them because there is something kinda ancestral on their appearance that fcking click with me...
I hate how they just made him win or draw his turf wars which almost always look the same by having him fly around the air as if he has the weight to pull that kind of acrobatic stuff off. The turf wars look bad and despite him being a pretty low-tier monster in terms of strength he manages to hold his own against elder dragons pretty well. Really bad choice, he feels hyped up by the game without any way to back it up.
Given how many flagships just AREN'T Elder Dragons, I feel like that's a good thing. Really, Magnamalo was still a bit overly gassed up because what's with him practically winning the copy-pasted turf war against Elders? But Nergigante ironically felt like a let down because his presence wasn't so special. The colors, the power, the gimmick, felt like I've seen it all before... So between the 2 of them I prefer Magnamalo.
I felt that exact way, other than his tail attacks most of his moves just feel like reskin nergigante hell even his ult looks like a reskin version of his Nergi ult
Malzeno is far, far up in the list for me. His design is obviously based on a vampire, but what I like the most is how well they managed to implement it into the fight and the music. Yeah he drinks blood and there's a red moon in the sky blablabla, that's all set-up and they didn't need to go so hard on his moveset but did it anyway. The way he moves, the way he teleports, how he pulls his wings in front of his face like Dracula does with his cape in Castlevania, it's all perfect. He truly feels like they went all out on making him as fleshed out as possible, took all chances to make sure he feels set in his design. Malzeno might be the best flagship so far to me.
The only part that stinks about this is that almost every monster on this last is a straight up banger, and my default some have to be towards the bottom, but I think this arrangement is pretty solid. Personally I think Lagi deserves a bump up a few slots as Tri was a pretty major turning point in the franchise, introducing a third dimension to hunting, he brought in the leviathans, he has fairly prominent story relevance in his game, he’s one of the most requested returns, and I hope he brings underwater back with him. Also, I do agree with the reasoning for Nergigante being number 1 and I won’t say he doesn’t deserve it, but Rathalos has done so much leg work as a mascot for almost 20 years that even if he is the boring answer, he’s also very much deserving of that spot.
I am so happy with where Nergigante ended up. He's definitely my favourite for the reasons you listed. World's ecology and immersion is just absurdly good. and his fight is challenging but simple. and once you learn it, kind of easy, but no less fun for me. he started as fun to challenge, then became fun to bully. and while i like Magnamallow, i also agree about the design being a bit too much. I love Rule of Cool a lot (i love Valstrax so much.), but he feels like he's trying too hard to be Zinogre + Nergigante + Glavenus but looking like he's wearing samurai armour. he doesn't feel like his own monster in a way. but like i said, i do still like him. he's fun to fight, the pruple and gold is great. hellfire is neat.
My list. 21: azure rathalos 20: gammoth (never fought her but still cool design and good theme) 19: rathalos 18: tigrex 17: lagiacrus (never fought it but looks cool and has a fantastic theme, kinda) 16: bloodbath diablos (never fought it but it has good lore and pretty good music) 15: kushala daora 14: glavenus 13: nargacuga 12: astalos 11: zinogre 10: espinas 9: seregios 8: brachydios 7: valstrax 6: mizutsune 5: nergigante 4: magnamalo 3: gore magala 2 and 1 (tie) Velkhana and malzeno Edit: tigrex should probably be a bit higher.
Poor magnamalo😓 one of my favs of design alone. Could’ve had more story impact but coming back as scorned in sunbreak gave much needed additional depth to the monster
I didn’t care for magnamalo. I think his design is quite overdone. The fight is decent but he had such little impact on the game. I felt like it led up to the fight, you fight him, you move on to the dragons.
I like making list so here is mine 20\ Gammoth 19\ Velkhana (Zamtrios did it better) 18\ Nergigante/Bloodbath Diabolos (haven't fought them yet so having higher would feel wrong) 17\ Brachydios (imo Raging is peak Brachy) 16\ Azure Rathalos 15\ Rathalos 14\ Kushala Daora 13\ Nargacuga 12\ Tigrex 11\ Seregios 10\ Mizutsune 9\ Lagiacrus 8\ Espinas 7\ Malzeno 6\ Glavenus 5\ Gore Magala 4\ Zinogre 3\ Astalos 2\ Magnamalo 1\ Valstrax (Complete and utter bias) It's hard ranking the flagships, they're all just really solid
I think in earlier MH games if a monster has like a unique looks or features then it's gonna be the flagship monster because I don't think they have to attract audience to play this game. It really doesn't matter if they have any relevance to the 'story' which capcom has implemented until the later releases which is unfair to me that they are ranked lower because of their "irrelevance" to the story of that game. People just put Rathalos in the higher rank because its the first one and they don't want people to smell their bs like this one.
For me Valstrax, Glavenus, Astalos, malzeno, Gore and Shagaru magala( and yes, i didn't put only one monster even if for me the valstrax is the best of them)
As far as valkana and the ice blast going thru stuff. I feel that. It happened a ton in Iceborne. I was fighting barioth and was completely behind a wall, he jumped and completely curve ball the wall and I still get hit. I was like wtf? How does a monster curve around the entire wall. Glavenus is one of my favorite monsters. Love how it looks. It's a pretty funny fight. It's fast for how big it is
Mitzutsune & Nargacuga are two that I enjoy the most. I love each of the monsters but the way the fights for Mitzutsune & Nargacuga, their designs, movement, I love it all that they bring
@@Orangelp_LP first time I saw valstrax I thought I got the wrong game (wtf is this yu gi oh?) the only way I can bear his aestetics is imagining it is some weird experiment of the old civilization gone wild, if not...talking about magnamalo I thought the armblades were too much for me too, until I realized all the blades and spikes he has are not meant to be used only merely as physical weapons , but to channel his hellfire.... 10/10 design.
the problem is what is what on the actual fuck is hellfire? So my hypothesis is that there is a specialized organ inside magnamalo that converts eaten monsters into explosive gas that can be released on the vents throughout its body (like those tiny dark purple spots as vents). This can be correlated to when valstrax intakes air then converts them into pure dragon energy as fuel.
@@elgobaldez3487 I don't remember what was it but I think the process is more "natural" and doesn't need a special organ for it, something about his digestive system who can ferment the extra bioenergy and use it by sweating.
@@rurikthehunter8811 Yeah there are still so many stuff to discover and hypothesize bout' this monster which is what I really like. I disagree with OP's take on magna being "His stuff isn't well explained" like dude fatalis back then thrived from this! we only got official data bout' forbidden monsyers on the 15th anniversary, maybe the devs intention is for us to speculate magnamalo like the old days when we heavily speculate fatalis's lore
Imo, I think Seregios should be a bit higher - while he was a somewhat overshadowed in 4U by Gore, he still carried a fair bit of weight in the high rank story, as well as being the first Apex that you encounter. (That cinematic is still amazing.) His uniqueness isn't just being faster than Rathalos, it's his aggression and ability to drive not only Raths but other monsters out of the ecosystem.
Kinda' weird to give Nergi credit for being a huge part of World's success in the West (since that's where World took off compared to other M.H. entries that launched it into the numbers it got) considering that it wasn't on the cover art in the West, Rathalos was, since World was supposed to almost be a bit of a soft restart of the series. Also weird to give Nergi credit for Ruiner Nergi things, but not most other monsters credit for their variations (only Mizu and Gore got alternate mentions). I don't hate Nergi's design, but I don't love it either, I feel like the World aesthetic just made it not pop as much as it could've, since there are a lot of World and Iceborne monsters that feel overly intricate to me without those details really adding much - Odogaron has this issue to me a lot as well, along with Vaal, and possibly even Velkhana - just muddying the visual design a bit. Ruiner fixed some of that by having the colors contrast a bit more, but I still feel like the shapes also are a bit over-done too. Nergi's fight is fine, but I wouldn't say it's any more impressive or fun or able to be learned than something like Brachy or Malzeno or Mizutsune (I personally feel like Generations Mizutsune had one of the most fun to learn fights in the series, with all the Fated Four being pretty impressive in that regard, it felt like the Generations team really thought about the entire tool-kit of a monster when making it and how access to those different moves would play off each other). As for story importance, well, after Gore, nothing has been able to really meet that bar, let alone pass it. Nergi just feels like the same general through-line as Gore in Four, but not as good - especially since Zorah and the New World environment itself tend to play huge parts how and where the story goes along, I'd argue possibly more than Nergi. Aren't Magna's Hell-Fire wisps explained in-game as a by-product from feasting in excess, which happens more during the rampage? Just a highly volatile gas. They're referred to as "souls" a lot, but that's jut a poetic flourish of symbolism, since it's the thing it creates from the things it has eaten, and also to tie into its Yokai roots, they're not actually souls, and I don't even think they want you to think they are. It's just colorful imagery. Gotta' agree that Magna's visual design is a bit too much though. It's kind of a mess. If they just gave normal Manga the back that Scorned has, it would've fixed so much.
I love that tigers and nargacuga are right next to eachother on the list and I can understand their medium placing. But both Tigrex and nargacuga have a personal place in my heart as to why both are essentially tied as my favorite monsters. The introduction to Tigrex in freedom unite is one if not my most memorable moment in the older games and they both appear in the first monster hunter I played being freedom unite. And yes nargacuga gets extra brownie points for being a cat you’re spot on with that assessment. But I love them both! Tigrexs brutality combined with nargacugas agility while both being lethal is a great contrast to that game! Also I like both cats and dinosaurs so I mean that game hit it on the nail with introduction monsters! Hehe!
I love Brachydios, it's an amazing Monster to me. It's variation the raging Brachydios is what made it my most favourite normal Monster and Flagship, once it hits low hp instead of running away it starts rapaging and make a big explosion.
I think Bloodbath should be above Tigrex and before Malezeno. GU did not have a "story". It was a arcade style thing and a celebration of all monsters in the series. I can't say it could be any higher but it does have more story relavence than Cotton gave it credit for. It's a small thing but BBD is a major threat. It actively hunts hunters and it's capable of taking out multiple armies with no survivors. It could give Fatalis a solid fight in its ultimate form. I would want to rate it higher but since I can't disregard the detriment of not being a story monster so I think it deserves to be one below the first truly story based flagship. That's just my opinion and I am very much in love with BBD as a concept, so I am very biased.
Gonna be real, I never really understood the hype around Brachydios. How Josh feels about Magnamalo and how some people feel about Zinogre is sort of how Brachy translates to me. He just looks *so weird.* I don't hate him or nothing, he's head and shoulders over Azure Rathalos, Gammoth, and (if I'm being honest) Tigrex. But second best flagship material? Eh?
Why is Brachy second place? Just because you invent a mechanic, doesn´t make you a good flagship. Lagiacrus was more of a Flagship for 3U than he was. Its like saying Blangonga is the best Ice Monsters just because he used it first.
I have an awesome idea to make Gammoth a little more interesting. Hopefully. So, I made a sauropod monster that is absolutely humongous, like, so big that only one leg could fit into a pit fall trap so you can't catch it and you could climb onto it. But, a way to make the fight more interesting is to increase the amount of traps you can bring on a quest, and you can use the traps to lock it down and you can do some real damage. So you can take this idea and then use it with Gammoth, take the slow and simple fight and make it a little more interesting. The fight would still be doable without using the traps but the traps would make it easier and interesting
Gammoth is one of my favorite monster in the entire series. I really hope the next time we see it be amazing. It was a shame it didn't make it in Ice Borne because it would have fit great there, thematically. It is a monster that has so much potential.
Lagiacrus needs to be higher… the way he moves the story forward was more important than you remember. The one horned demon king from mhfu is basically bloodbath diablos, that was so hard to fight. It was a g level diablos that you have to fight in + rank and it was always enraged
Mad props to Astalos, the monster I found the series through (finding it’s theme on YT lol) and combining like all of my favorite things into one creature design. Wyverns, dragonflies/bugs, the color green, electric element, and one of the most monster-hunter-y sounding themes I’ve ever heard. It’ll always be the #1 flagship to me in my heavily biased opinion lol
I still love Generations bucking the trend and giving us the fated four flagships that all had interesting and fun mechanics to their fights (and cool gear). While Glavenus got a lot of love; and Gammoth was the only one to not make it to 5th gen, I still think all four of them occupy a cool niche and challenge to the hunters. Here's hoping we get another game with all four of the them together again.
It`s kinda funny that the monster with a similar body and attacks are Place 20 and 1, because people decided to completly ignore the lore of Magnamalo and don´t look into his design. And no this is not the first time that this has happend.
@@Orangelp_LP he’s a samurai tiger. I get that he has a lot of decent lore but for a game that is known for making natural looking creatures he is undeniably an outlier.
@@Orangelp_LP I'll be real; this list vid is mostly just nonsense, that breaks its own "this is X because Y" when its a preferred monster lol and I'm sorry, but I still feel like Nergigante is just a really boring monster. He's a dull colored, spiky and angry dragon; in a game with so many other dragons.
Cotton you may not even see this comment but I want to clarify that I’m not mad or trying to be negative but I have to disagree that you are being objective because you are prioritizing absolute realistic design over popularity. Here’s what I mean by that. Yes it is important to keep a monster realistic in the contacts of monster hunter but The reason why monster Hunter is such a beloved series is because of how much creative freedom these creatures are given to be designed. For example, valstrax is absolutely realistic because of the reasons that you have said here. He is a jet dragon fueled by the dragon element energy. If you think he’s not realistic to a degree then you should say that kushala is not realistic because he is a dragon made of metal & he produces wind from his internal organs that come out of every part of his body. Admittedly he makes more sense then valstrax but my point is if you were truly being objective about flagship placing then Gore Magala would be at the top for 3 ginormous reasons. But before I give those 3 reasons I have to say I’m new to the series. Rise being my 1st, then World, then 1/4 of iceborne, then Sunbreak before any title updates, then iceborne 3/4, then Sunbreak where we are now. 1. Gore Magala is the 2nd most popular monster in the series while number 1 is Rathalos but that’s only because he’s been in every single game. But it says a lot when a flagship monster that was only introduced in the 4th gen almost overshadows the 1 that’s everywhere. 2. Gore Magala’s mixture of realism & fiction is the best I have seen throughout the entire series. I can say this because I have looked at pictures & read on nearly every single monster in the entire series about What makes each one of them tick. Including spinoffs. 3. Gore Magala’s frenzy virus alone is hands-down the most threatening thing to the entire planet because it’s basically monster hunter’s equivalent of a zombie virus. Hell even Fatalis would definitely be infected even if he came up on top every single time because it is just that potent. Don’t get me wrong I love & respect you guys but I just wanted to make sure I said all this for clarification because I’m an objective thinker myself & I know the difference between entitlement & Objectiveness.
Tbh I don’t think bloodbath was given a fair ranking. G and GU didn’t really have much a story compared to 4 and 4U. It was basically a MH game with a solid roster (everyone’s favorites) and added mechanics. Sure Ah-tal Ka was a “story boss” but it wasn’t all that impactful compared to story bosses/monsters like Gore, nergi (despise this elder), velkhana, sharisvalda, Ibushi/Narwa, malzeno or giasmagorm. Bloodbaths fight, theme, and design were super solid and if nothing else the lore itself really should’ve justified it being higher than zinorge (like why?). The pure raw physical strength it has destroying entire armies and potentially rivaling most elders. Other than that this is a very solid list. Great job keeping it as unbiased as possible, which is no easy task!
Azure is definitely bottom, but i've always prefered it's weapons and armor aesthetically to regular red rathalos. Always prefered the blue flame touch (like Azula to Zuko). Silver is nice too, makes it easier to mix fashion wise
Y'know, technically speaking... Yian Garuga is also a flagship monster. In the teaser trailers for Freedom 1/Portable 1st, he was teased the same way a flagship monster would. Not to mention he was the only new monster in F1. Thus, making it the last monster of Gen 1 MonHun. But then Silverlos came in and took the spotlight in both Western and Japanese box art of the game even tho he was already introduced in MHG. Making Yian Garuga "The flagship that never was and should have been" in my eyes.
My favourite monster may be Valstrax but I’m with you on Nergi, I really think he’s an absolute icon of the series and his fight is Monster Hunter if that makes sense. Edit: this is the opinion of someone who started with Tri and has World/Iceborne as their least favourite MH game.
I get why Azure Rathalos gets a lot of hate, but I have the controversial opinion of kind of liking it better than regular Rathalos. But I do think Silver (5th gen version) is the best Los in the mainline games in my opinion.
Rathalos, Zinogre and Nergigante will always be my favorites. Rathalos is self-explanatory, I knew who he was, but didn’t know what MH was, crazy right. Bias to Zinogre because he’s an awesome monster as a whole, but his intro in World was so badass and seal the deal for me. And Nergigante was the only monster I felt literally intimidated to fight in base World. I really didn’t want to fight him and it was truly horrifying when I did.
The only one I really disagree with is Magnamalo. That comes more from personal opinion, but I still think it is way better than most of the bottom list
Is this an early April fools... I do not like this list 🗿 so many feel so randomly out of place Magnamalo being so lowest??, NERGIGANTE IN 1ST?????? Doodoo
I believe bloodbath should be a few points higher as although there is no story relevance, there is gameplay relevance, as he is the strongest deviate after all. Encapsulates GU's focus on gameplay & nothing else.
This scared the living soul out of me, i was doing groceries then the notification popped up for me, i just read "Monsters 21" I was like: I JUST MANAGED TO BEAT RISEN VALSTRAX, NOW THERES 21 MORE?
Rathalos is almost always the transition monster in the games as well, aka Rathalos generally is the first monster that lets you know the kid gloves are coming off and things are getting real from here on you better learn a monster's patterns. As for me, I always hated the Nergigante fights, not nearly as bad as Kushala was in world, but still had a lot of cheap hitboxes that didn't line up with the visuals. Then again I didn't fight him after Iceborne (I got bored with that expansion quickly) and he probably is cheezed like all the original monsters were after clutch claw came out.
Nergigante is my number 1 and world is my least favorite monster hunter, he’s the most satisfying monster I think I’ve ever farmed. The fight never got old and just using a switch ace on him was a fun.
I have been playing monster hunter since the very first game and nothing is as nostalgic to me as classic rathalos.. but.. Nergigante is the most iconic and special to me.. after sinking over 5k hours into MHworld/iceborn with over 1k nergigante slays. I feel i have a relationship with that pixel that doesn't come naturally or cheap or without long time investment... Well deserved number 1 spot imo
I will put malzeno higher in the list. Maybe top 5. Visually, lore wise and gameplay is amazing. 1 would be Rathalos as its not just a flagship of gen 1 but the pikachu of the entire game. I am kinda dissapointed that they removed soo many mechanics for the later games.1 of its ability was given to Valstrax. Gore would be 2 because its existance is the literap story for the game it was introduced, 3 would be nergigante, 4 would be Velkhana, ice dragon nuff said. 5 is Malzeno.
Rathalos I say is technically the flagship of 3 games, the first game and both of the Stories games. The Stories Rathalos are specific Rathalos but still Rathalos.
Rathalos deserves to be one of the best and my reason is a personal one rather than a usual one. He is one of the main reasons my uncle kept playing monster hunter from how he felt when he first killed him. History somewhat repeats itself cause i have a similar reason for sticking around but with Anjanath rather than Rathalos but i can thank both these monsters for allowing me to enjoy monster hunter with my uncle so thoroughly. Happy hunting everyone, i hope to see you all in generation 6!!!
At first I didn't exactly like the list at first, especially with the mid ranking of Lagiacrus. But the more I looked into the list, its just more than just "Monster is cool, so it goes higher". Its how the monster fits thematically into not only the lore, but the spirits of the game and meaning behind the monster itself conceptually With that said, the list is just about perfect
I think this list was fair, as it's only about the contribution of the flagships to the story. Which is why I'm very happy that Nergigante is No.1 cuz he was also very important in Iceborne.
Nergs one of my favorite fights, when i played worlds demo i couldnt beat it and thought id hate its fight But by time world and ice born came to an end, i found my self fighting it when ever i was bord i just enjoyed it that much
Well for me the Number 1 has to be Gore Magala. It was just perfectly integrated into the Story of the game and even its evolved Forms got proper Lore inclusion (unlike Ruiner Nergigante who suddenly just existed for no reason). The fight itself was insanity in all 3 Forms with the sorta double enrage all 3 Forms shared. And ofc the Weapons of all 3 are incredibly cool design wise.
I usually respect cottons videos and opinions, but my god I just absolutely can't understand how someone can say they lose their immersion when a "monster" strays from "realism" like what?
It pains me to see Magna so low, though in all fairness, all of the points mentioned are valid. I just wish the creature was a bit more natural looking and more reasonable with it's ecology.
It is reasonable. The hellfire are gases he exspells. And a lot of body parts people find over the top are actually hellfire vents. Many people just chose to turn a blind eye.
I’d put Magnamalo at one mostly because he’s the first flagship monster I fought. Also because he can box the elder dragons and tackle them out the sky because yes
So happy Nergigante was #1 he is definitely my favorite monster for so many reasons and his lore is so good, being a specialist at killing elder dragons to keep balance if one is screwing the ecosystem up
Seregios is not the Flagship of MH4U. Its Apex Seregios (at least on the Boxart Cover i have in my room hehe) :P Common Mistake but otherwise i agree with your Statements about Steve.
Didn't expect to get so turnt on magnamalos ranking, I love magical monsters with truly unnatural abilities, and magnamalo is one of my favorite flag ships due to that
I don't get why people like Brachydios. I never thought the design was all that cool, the fight has always been boring, even his variant is a really terrible variant because it's just "what if Brachydios but he did even more explosions". His fight in Iceborne had terrible hitboxes where he'll jump past you or far over you and still hit you somehow, and the only good part of raging brachy was the last part where he fights nothing like regular brachydios. I liked that last part, but I hated getting there because the first 80% of the quest is fighting brachydios but he now drops lingering hitboxes onto the floor so anytime I attack his downed body he tells me I cannot hit the part I want to hit. It's somewhere in the top 3 worst fights in iceborne for me, possibly number 1 because aside from the fight being one I strongly disliked I also think the design looks stupid.
its definitely cool but i think it falls under the same category as glavenus but a little more extreme, since its super cool but trying to explain any of its anatomy within an ecosystem its design kinda falls apart. however scorned magna just goes so far with the rule of cool that it just gets a pass for being so cool.
Really need a world come back again a completely new game with worlds style visual and deep story monster hunting with a massive roaster of old plus new monster
My favourite thing about Nergigante is, that, if it didn't notice you and you watch it for a while, it just behaves like a massively oversized dog, which makes it one of my favourite monsters for that fact alone.
I always thought it was more cat-like. It licks itself, and and grooms itself pretty often.
@@zyionhvogunsin7026yeagh same it acts more like a cat even though it looks like an attack mode hedgehog

@@TheHeroDiedno he's replying to the first guy about Nergigante
I feel like one of the most important factors that make nergigante so good is because of how mhw stepped up the scales of mh, by putting more emphasis on the ecology and story
Not story taht much it had some focus but not nearly as much as ecology
I might be completely wrong, but I think hellfire was explained as a gas that magnamalo creates as it kills monsters. Maybe it has some kind of organ that holds some of the flesh it consumes and ferments it into hellfire. But again, I could be completely wrong about that explanation.
The hellfire is the side effect of its metabolism. So basically it's using its farts to fly. dummy thick fart powered anger kitty cat. I love it.
@@Doomguyhunter1I almost had it
@@Doomguyhunter1 congalala meets zinogre
Congalala vs Magnamalo turf would be a chemical gas explosion chaos
Agreed, nergi was only on the cover of the steelbook
Tbf the game really treats Nergigante as its flagship anyways, even if he technically isnt
I mean once the iceborne dlc the 2 on the cover where nergi and velkana
On an aside, I hope the next game commits more to integrating supplementary material within gameplay. It's great that they've been expanding on the bones of lore with meat like Espinas fighting Kushala, but it be even nicer if there wasn't divides like the lore saying: "Oh man Alatreon and Safi'jiiva are arch-rivals!" meanwhile the game says: "LOL they never meet, go fight Barioth with a beard."
To the topic at hand, I'll keep with Nergigante.
It seems there’s a lot of debate over magnamalo’s design and his hellfire and all that so I want to explain some stuff
Hellfire: produced by the consumption of other monsters and it’s digestive system will turn it into a highly explosive gas it uses offensively. The whole hellfire is souls thing is because it comes from those consumed so the energy consumed is the “soul” of a monster, not actual soul
Horns: a magnamalo’s horns are used as a way for mates to determine a good mate, the larger a magnamalo’s horns, the more likely it is to find a mate. These horns can also not be grown again which makes a scorned magnamalo, a magnamalo that lost it’s horns and cannot find a mate, thus it gets very angry
Back spikes: the reason they suddenly appear when he enrages is because he “switches” them up to dispel more hellfire
Arm blades: no canon explanation yet but I theorize they came as a result of flying wyvern ancestors and he uses it as a pivot to get better turns
He’s heavily armored because he is in constant need of food which means he’ll have to dive into the rampage and have to find elders to consume which likely needs a lot of armor, without any food, he loses hellfire and one of his major hunting methods
Hopefully this cleared up some things for those that don’t understand his lore in the comments
Fun fact: you seem him dispel his hell fire randomly in a zone without any target because too much hellfire could damage him from the inside
I like the simple ones the most. Raw Strength is the best. So Nergigante and Tigrex are my favorites followed by Malzeno who isn't simple but very very cool.^^
I hope the next game gives us Neopteron or Temnoceran Flagship Monster.
100% agree, doesnt matter if they can summon lightning or hellfire if you out bench them. really hoping for bloodbath to make a return one day.
Yeah agreed we need some more unique flagships. I hope that it's a crab, spider, flying insect, snake wyvern or even a new monster class.
Deviljho :(
@@neodintchly Deviljho isn’t a flagship.

Bloodbath Diablo : am I a joke to you?
I feel like Magnamalo is a flashy version of Nergigante but somehow feels less of a threat.
Yeees, this
I hate how they just made him win or draw his turf wars which almost always look the same by having him fly around the air as if he has the weight to pull that kind of acrobatic stuff off.
"Nergigante and I'm here to say; I approve the ranking you've put forth today!" XD
Steve not playing a big role in 4U doesn't sit right, considering the Apex Steve dispersing other seregios was the crux of the expansion's plot line
My opinion is malzeno is the best, his teleport, movement and the design are amazing

I didn’t care for magnamalo. I think his design is quite overdone. The fight is decent but he had such little impact on the game. I felt like it led up to the fight, you fight him, you move on to the dragons.

It's hard ranking the flagships, they're all just really solid
Imma be honest this list is way better then theirs
Behold, the real tier list on this video
I think in earlier MH games if a monster has like a unique looks or features then it's gonna be the flagship monster because I don't think they have to attract audience to play this game. It really doesn't matter if they have any relevance to the 'story' which capcom has implemented until the later releases which is unfair to me that they are ranked lower because of their "irrelevance" to the story of that game. People just put Rathalos in the higher rank because its the first one and they don't want people to smell their bs like this one.
For me Valstrax, Glavenus, Astalos, malzeno, Gore and Shagaru magala( and yes, i didn't put only one monster even if for me the valstrax is the best of them)
In my opinion Valstrax is the coolest monster in the franchise👍
@@quietlander6443 Yes, and the coolest fact about him is his speed (Mach 13.5), that is sad that the Kirin is already the fastest monster
MAGNAMALO IS NOT THAT BAD
Where are my fellow 5 seregios likers at?
Hello there. In my personal opinion seregios is 9th.
Best flying wyvern
Seregios is like big 7th imo but I’m quite biased there
Seregios is one he is more god than gog because other than elders he is really the king of the skies
We call him Sergio in Italy and i love it
15:54 Gore's fight when you first see him is just "HE'S JUST SO GODDAMN COOL!!!"
You mentioned espionage is unique because it is the only monster from frontier. What makes frontier so different from a normal title

Best Flagship is Nergigante, directly followed by Malzeno and Gore Magala on rank 3

15. Gore Magala
14. Kushala Daora
13. Astalos
12. Magnamalo
11. Seregios
10. Lagiacrus
9. Zinogre
8. Espinas
7. Malzeno
6. Velkhana
5. Glavenus
4. Valstrax
3. Rathalos
2. Nergigante
1. Tigrex
Lagiacrus should be higher.
And now with Primordial Malzeno. Malzeno shots up to at least top 5 in my opinion. What an excellent Addition to the malzeno familiy
This dudes out of his mind with this "immersion breaking" shit 😂
Everyone can have their own opinion and everyone can also be wrong lmao
The only one I really disagree with is Magnamalo. That comes more from personal opinion, but I still think it is way better than most of the bottom list
Is this an early April fools... I do not like this list 🗿
so many feel so randomly out of place Magnamalo being so lowest??, NERGIGANTE IN 1ST??????
Doodoo
Nergigante ☠️
Sales don't make the quality of the monster
It's a ok fight, but it's far lower than monsters like Lagiacrus
I believe bloodbath should be a few points higher as although there is no story relevance, there is gameplay relevance, as he is the strongest deviate after all. Encapsulates GU's focus on gameplay & nothing else.
I’ll have you know, Cotton, that I happen to love Azure Rathalos! 2:30
This scared the living soul out of me, i was doing groceries then the notification popped up for me, i just read "Monsters 21"
I was like: I JUST MANAGED TO BEAT RISEN VALSTRAX, NOW THERES 21 MORE?
Idc, big, slow, hard hitting monsters are the most fun to fight
Magnamalo top 10
For me, what makes a monster is its cry. Legiana & Bazelgeuse are very obvious examples.
Bazelgeuse: WEEW
I’d put valstrax at the top easily. It’s capacity for cool is simply unmatched.
At first I didn't exactly like the list at first, especially with the mid ranking of Lagiacrus. But the more I looked into the list, its just more than just "Monster is cool, so it goes higher". Its how the monster fits thematically into not only the lore, but the spirits of the game and meaning behind the monster itself conceptually
With that said, the list is just about perfect
Violet is a rare species
I think this list was fair, as it's only about the contribution of the flagships to the story. Which is why I'm very happy that Nergigante is No.1 cuz he was also very important in Iceborne.
Nergs one of my favorite fights, when i played worlds demo i couldnt beat it and thought id hate its fight
But by time world and ice born came to an end, i found my self fighting it when ever i was bord i just enjoyed it that much
Love to see my boy brachy at #2 also I agree about his appearance but imo worlds raging brachy is one of the best looking monsters of all time
I was never a big Fan of Nergigantes Design.
The fight is cool but he looks just like you tell a 10 year old to draw a "cool looking" monster
Azure Rathalos is my favorite monster.
Unbiased opinions kinda ruin the point in the video being yours. It's YOUR ranking not the community's
Rathalos is so underrated
Well for me the Number 1 has to be Gore Magala. It was just perfectly integrated into the Story of the game and even its evolved Forms got proper Lore inclusion (unlike Ruiner Nergigante who suddenly just existed for no reason). The fight itself was insanity in all 3 Forms with the sorta double enrage all 3 Forms shared. And ofc the Weapons of all 3 are incredibly cool design wise.
Me watching this list: YOU HAVE GENUINLEY ANGERED ME
Lagiacrus and Nergigante.
I usually respect cottons videos and opinions, but my god I just absolutely can't understand how someone can say they lose their immersion when a "monster" strays from "realism" like what?
I think that velkhana is the best flagship monster
For 5 to 1 magnamalo, gore, Valstrax, nergigante, malzeno (IMO)
Edit: malzeno is the best monster in mh period fight me
Nergigante is my all-time favorite monster. Hope it does well.
Lol first is nice.
Magnamalo should be at least top 10
Fr fr
its definitely cool but i think it falls under the same category as glavenus but a little more extreme, since its super cool but trying to explain any of its anatomy within an ecosystem its design kinda falls apart. however scorned magna just goes so far with the rule of cool that it just gets a pass for being so cool.
Nah
Magnamalo’s a bit over designed but the fight is definitely one of the best in the series
Magnamalo feels like he was designed by some 13 year old who wanted to make an edgy samurai tiger as his sonic oc
Really need a world come back again a completely new game with worlds style visual and deep story monster hunting with a massive roaster of old plus new monster
Magnamalo feels like he was hurt by the pandemic and everything else going on around when Rise dropped. Like maybe another 6 months could have helped.
Brachy is literally one of THE WORST. Things to come out of monster hunter. Not his slime or. The blast just him and his boring ass tedious fight
Ngl, I'd argue that Anjanath felt more iconic than Nergigante when it came to MHW.
I can't unhear "WHAT?! THEY CANT DO THAT" "FRONTIER IS REAL" whenever ya'll talk about Espinas now lol
