Beautiful artwork, I love your style. I have been using this varnish for a little while now, on smaller canvases sometimes I do up to 6 thin coats which gives any amazing mirror finish. You’d never know it wasn’t resin
Hello Sara. At first i used the high gloss varnish from Liquitex, then the gloss varnish which i found glossy enough . Then inwatched a video from COZ creations and Kathleen experimented and with thiese varnishes and said that her favourite was the satin varnish on top of the gloss varnish and i tried it today on a few paintings with all Arteza iridescent paints and bingo, really great. Just two coats, really pretty. Inguess that each paintings asks for a different finish. And i someone ever wants me to make someone they can decide for themselves. But i,m workng on my collection and don,t know how i,m gonna sell my paintings. So, hope this varnish idea will inspire someone. Greetings from Europe, love your own style and colours.Bye
I’ve been using 3 thin coats of Liquitex high gloss finish and my canvases shine like resin. They’ve all come out nicely. With the exception of one that I didn’t get all the silicone cleaned off good enough. I was deeply saddened, but somehow ended up making it work. Thanks so much for sharing. Love your word! ✌️💜😊
Yes!! Thank you so much for this! I have tried this on top of my streaky varnish and the streaks are not visible anymore now 😍😍 BTW, I love all your work, it is otherwordly and such an inspiration ❤️
What a fantastic result. I’ve always been told you should only brush in one direction but you seem to go all over the place and it still looks perfect.
So glad I found this! I think I need to work on my technique applying this and rethink the type of canvas I'm using. I don't think the canvas is as tight and may create an unleveled surface.
I did 2 similar coats like this on my new acrylic painting and it seems like no matter how much I put on, the canvas or paint absorbs some and by the time it dries there are patches
Sara, one again you have inspired me. I was using a spray varnish but on the larger canvas it starts to clog the longer you spray. I'm going to buy a small bottle and test it out on some that I have used silicone and also ones that I haven't. Then, if it works out I'll invest in a large container. Again, Thank you for sharing all that you do.
Thank you! I just brushed on three coats of Liquitex and I can’t get rid of the brush strokes. I’ve used epoxy before. But you’ve cleared up verathane coating !!
Thank you for the short and sweet video 😊. Until recently I've been hesitant to try varnish, but now I'm going to give it a go! If you happen to have a moment to answer, what's the best way to clean your sponges after you're done? Is Dawn and water sufficient or is there a better method?

Hi Carol! Glad you liked it. I don’t really have to do any cleaning, just brush it off with a clean brush to make sure there’s no dust. I don’t use silicone. If you use silicone I know there’s a cleaning process, I’ve heard dawn and a scrub brush works, you want to make sure to get all the silicone off before you try to varnish. I let my paintings cure for at least 2 to 3 weeks. Cheers!
@@SaraTaylor Thank you for your reply - and so quickly, too! When I started, I was using silicone because that just seemed to be what everyone was doing. But I decided I liked my results better when I didn't use silicone. So I stopped. Thank you so much!

Hi Sara this varnish doesn’t self level in my experience. It leaves streaks. The only method that works is to let it flow all over the canvas and over the sides. Adding a little water works best.
I do just want to clarify, in my experience if you add enough of this varnish to a canvas, almost floated on top, it does self level. It does leave brush marks if it’s too thin of a coat.
@@SaraTaylor I am so confused there’s so many different opinions on this and experiences. Liquitex states that you should do several thin coats otherwise you get cloudiness and other problems. I did several thin coats still got streaks….Just wondering if I keep putting more than thin coats whether it will level out ? Also it seems to dry very quickly and I try not to go over it too often and even though I’m under strong lights I always seem to miss spots where the streaks are ….it’s so frustrating I really hate it when you’ve done a beautiful piece and then you ruin it with varnish what can you do if there are streaks marks please PS I also used a sponge brush which I lightly pushed the varnish but still had marks please help thank you in advance🙏💕

Hi Sara, thanks for providing this tutorial. I just had a question - you don't varnish the sides of your painting? My paintings go over the edge (similar to yours) and I just wondered if it wasn't necessary to varnish the edges as well.
Hi Sara, after watching your video I tried the gloss varnish on my paintings and love the results! Do you know how to remove varnish drips from the sides or bottom of the canvas after its dried? I will make sure to look for those in the future before they dry!
Hi Sara, love your work. I tried your method with minwax varnish and it worked brilliantly. Used liquidex high gloss varnish but find it harder to work with as it dries so quickly. Could I use a light film of water first, as you do with the other varnish, to float the liquidex ? Or am I not putting on enough of the liquidex ? Thank you ,Brigid Farrell
With a Varnish like this, you’re not really going to be able to avoid the canvas texture. If you want a smooth glass like finish you would want to go with epoxy resin.👍
