At different times I've been a audiophile and a total audio denier at others. In the end I got to be a surround fanatic and after testing a lot of headphones, including one with five elements per ear I found one that gave me a good surround experience without to many elements for sanity. But the one with all those elements actually worked fine at delivering a good 3D sound experience though they sounded real bad other than that. But the replacement was almost as good at delivering 3D surround while sounding decent for movies and normal audio. That was my life for several years and then I had an accident, fell down some stairs and crushed my head. That ripped the nerves for my right ear straight off and now I'm totally deaf on one ear, so I can't even hear stereo much less surround sound. So today I just don't care about headphones or anything like that anymore. I just played a game that required that you followed a voice. Well that took a while of aimless running in circles. I think the game was set to just allow five minutes or so of aimless wandering before it teleported you to the end of the segment. But that's just a guess. My advise to those with decent hearing is to go for the best surround experience they can find, though it may require testing a lot of headphones to find some that work for you. I had people recommend all matter of high end earphones, claiming that the sound engine in whatever game used a HRTF model that would fix surround. Well it never worked for me. The one that eventually worked for me was a pair of Plantronics GameCom 788. They use a HRTF developed by Dolby Labs and when set to 7.1 surround they managed to give me a very good surround experience. Not quite as good as the old multi element set, but the audio quality was way better. A lot of people has been claiming that a good pair of regular headphones give much better surround experience. But like I said, they never worked for me. But like I said, with only one working ear I can't really enjoy it. The good thing is that when these headphones break, which probably isn't all that far away, I can get just whatever. No surround necessary anymore. And frankly my hearing is so far from perfect today high end earphones would be like putting lipstick on a pig. I can't hear it that well anyway, even on the one ear that still kind of works.
I bought the Asus ROG Delta S Wireless and it's terrible. No matter what EQ settings I put in (went to Reddit for assistance) it never solved the hollowness of the sound. Just bad imo. Hopefully the Delta II corrects what went wrong between the ROG Delta (which I also owned) and the Delta S Wireless. Presently using my Sony WH1000XM4 for gaming and I'm quite happy with it while the Delta S Wireless collects dust on the ROG Throne.
Xan you create a website or a page where youll upload your custom eq's of all the headsets that you've tested. It'll be so helpful for people like us who aren't so pro when it comes to audio but want a goto like settings
Getting the Delta 2 here soon also, glad to see they are your new go to for now! Makes me feel like im making the right choice 👍🏽. I only upgrade my headphones when they atart to brake, with daily usage of 6-10 hours my last pair lasted about 6 years. Thanks for the tips!
I ended getting a pair of wired headphones. HD560S and then a Samson Go mic. All under $170. And I'm not sure any wireless headset can beat the sound of a good wired headset.
One odd issue I've had and this maybe a hardware thing, is swapping audio outputs during a game, video, Discord, etc. Almost 90% of the time: I have yp swap the output and then relaunch the program for the setting to take. It like it says ot has done it; but, doesn't until I relaunch which program I changed. I don't think this is a software issue person as it is not limited to just one program.
The Corsair HS80 and Void don't appear on your list, is that just because they are older, or do you not recommend them? I thought your review of them back in the day was favorable. I actually found out that balancing sound is even more complex than changing headsets. I have had my Logitech G533s forever. It got to the point the ear padding was tearing off and flopping around so I finally couldn't take it anymore and changed it. The sound was horrible on one replacement ear cushions I got, to the point that I wondered if some damage had happened to the speakers or something when I took the old ones off. I changed the type (from pleather-ish to a fully cloth) and again the sounds were completely different. Even trying to match the cushion to the original as best as I could the sounds have never quite sounded the same. The light and deep tones are off a bit, and even positional audio sounds a bit different. It was kind of mindboggling how much the soundscape changed between the original ear cushion and the two replacement ones I got.
Good stuff, kinda may say even needed in some online fps games where sound is not good in terms of awareness. Though can't fix missing sounds some games can have heh. Would be nice to see Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Pro review.
