So good! I’m actually in a data science internship right now. I was honest with my boss and told her that I wasn’t familiar with the interface we were using. She was very understanding and said she’s happy to help me. That just goes to show honesty is the best policy and internships are made to tailor you for the career you strive for. Great advice in this video Shalini😁🙌🏾
yesss love this!! I love hearing supportive stories about tech teams like this because ultimately the internship is there to learn more and gain experience 😊
I focused too much on R and python and kinda neglected sql, now I realized sql is kind of another part of the stack I should have learned, will it be okay if I don’t know enough of it?
Certain positions and companies put more emphasis/use more SQL than others, it definitely varies. Regardless of that though, I still think it's possible for you to learn SQL! I don't think SQL is super hard to learn (it's not like Python and R where there are tons of functions/libraries to choose from). With SQL there is a basic structure and format to a query and you end up using similar logic for all your queries you do. I'm planning on releasing more SQL content soon, hopefully that will help with learning it as well.
I want to do a master's in data science but money is tight. Did you typically get paid for your data science internships? If so, could I ask what was a typical internship pay?
Yes! Companies typically pay you for data science internships, the average salary range for interns is $39-$50 per hour (numbers and range from Google as of December)
Different companies have different requirements for data science roles (so this answer will probably vary based on who you ask) but for me my first data science internship was after around a year of taking relevant classes
Great advice as always!
Thank you 💕🎉

@@ShaliniK That's great to hear. Thanks so much for replying.
How far in your data science program did you study before you could get an internship?
