    THANK U SO MUCH FOR SHOWING THE GLIDE SHOE & HOW IT CAN GET DAMAGED FROM INSTALLING VINYL FLOORING!!! This is something the majority of people would never even know could happen! I appreciate u taking the time to explain the problem thoroughly:)

    4 years ago I did this (removed carpet and installed vinyl plank)... and found an easy solution that has held up. On top of the vinyl plank, I screwed down 2 ( one inch wide about quarter inch thick) stainless steel railes (on floor, one near front and one near back of slide) which gives a bit of elevation and gives the slide something to slide on. I just counter sinked 3 small screws to screw the railes into the floor (screws are the same ones I use with a threshold strip). Each rail is about 30 inches long.. just open the slide and push each steel rail under the slideout (with a flat bar create a little lift to make space to push rail under the carpet shoe) far enough so the rail is under the carpet shoe and the rails ends inside the motorhome to about where the slideout stops. Looks good and works perfectly easy to do. Hope that helps!
    My concerns with the glued carpet method is you are always pushing and pulling the glued carpet pieces across the vinyl plank which can cause stress to the plank seams causing eventual seam separation...and as you mention way to easy for a small amount of debris to cause scratching.

    Thank you for making this video. I am determined to get rid of the carpet in my RV - I would have been so disappointed if I’d put in tile to have it ground down by the slide shoe. 😕 Living in a rural environment I want less things for mice to contaminate. IE: carpet. 😀

    Mine ('04 Itasca M30) has both kitchen and dinette in the slideout, with carpet at the dinette and tile at the kitchen. While the carpet section has the glide strip, the kitchen/tile section has a roller. I'd like to get rid of the carpet, and put a roller on that front section of the slideout but not sure how to gain access. At the very least, your videos get into the nuts and bolts of these Winnebago's/Itascas. Thanks!

    • @ktoutdoor
      @ktoutdoor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anything is possible but if its only one small roller that's still a whole lot of weight going on one small area and that roller may soon be making a wear mark on your new floor. Now if you had 4 or 5 rollers????

    I watched a video in which the man made some carpet strips about 4' wide and 2 foot long that he laid down perpendicular along the floor so the that the slide ran on as it came in and went out of the house. it stopped the slide from dropping down onto the flooring. He didn't show it in use so I don't know if it worked.

    If you Google "mini caster wheels" you'll find a set of casters that look identical to the glide shoe but has 2 big ball bearing in them. Your slide height is also adjustable, you may need to raise it. Great video though. Camper repairs suck!

    • @ktoutdoor
      @ktoutdoor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First confirm that your slide truly slides across the carpet. if it does then just leave that section of carpet and replace the rest. If you slide never touches the carpet then replace it all.
