The people commenting on Doris Troy who sang the original are missing the point. We'd never have heard her version if The Hollies hadn't covered it - along with a lot of other stuff that was not being played on mainstream radio either over there in the USA or here, at the time!! I love The Hollies version because, for me, it is the original. But I also appreciate the Doris Troy actual original which I have now heard many times since. STOP COMPARING and just listen!!!!
It's strange but whenever you able to watch any Hollies Videos @ YT you'll find the same comments about "this version is better" I'd just say if envy could talk...
The Hollies Greatest Hits was the first album I bought as a kid. Funny to see Eric Haydock plunking away on a 6-string - they must not have had a bass for him to play that day.
Eric was playing a Fender 6 string Bass guitar an instrument used by musicians like Jet Harris,Jack Bruce, etc,in this video Eric and the others are clearly lip syncing to the song

This was my favourite Beatles song growing up... I first heard The Beatles when a friend of the family gave me a bunch of her old cassette tapes in the 1980s, and the tape that this track was on was simply labelled 'The Beatles'. Every song on there was an actual Beatles track except this one, but this was my favourite song of the bunch (all their early Rock 'n' Roll stuff).
I've found after several years listening to them both, side to side, that The Hollies had more beautiful well crafted harmonies than The Beatles so I think you're right AND on The Beatles side I would prefer the (early to '66) ones sung lead by John Lennon at any time to face into the H.
