how about, song title "Deep Purple" sung by brother and sister Nino Tempo and April Stevens. Grammy winner for best song of the year in 1963. Awesome harmony
Good choice Jamel! Love the distinctive sound of CCR! Would you kindly consider another toe tapper by the Grateful Dead called US Blues? I would love to hear your reaction! th-cam.com/video/RTKgSCW-dTk/w-d-xo.html
I've been listening to this song for 50+ years, and I've NEVER gotten tired of it. I love this band. Thanks for cheering me up Jamel. Bless you, sir...
Creedence's music has such a joyous, bouncy vibe, but the lyrics usually have a serious message behind them. And John Fogarty has one of the all-time great rock voices.
Yeah, they often contained social commentary, but I’ve heard him discount that in interviews later on. I think maybe he didn’t want part of his audience to turn on him. I Saw It On TV, from his Centerfield album is a master, and there’s no denying what that one’s about.
@@Caperhere Yeah, John turned that riff from "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" into a whole more substantial commentary. Almost a sequel, but also a prequel. Genius.
@@BRO77TX the ones you mentioned are good, but not quite up the level of CCR. The only ones I would put in the same level as CCR are: The Beach Boys. Honorable mention: The Doors, The Eagles, The Four Seasons. But your list is fantastic too.
@@Nick-ih3xg His list is certainly the second tier. Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire are without question the best ensemble bands ever. David Lee Roth's Van Halen was incredible. Kansas and Styx were not near as good. I have never been a big Aerosmith fan, but they are historic. And Steeley Dan is one of the best duos ever.
I love CCR!! The sound is timeless. You absolutely want to clap your hands and stomp your feet like you just did!!! My favorite is Have you ever seen the Rain 🌧️
One of the things that made CCR such a timeless band, is they were as "in tune" with the American ethos of the '70's as any band could be. So many of their songs are identified with the Vietnam War; but they also sang about growing up in America, & the whole "peace & love" movement typified by (dare I say) "hippies", "flower children", what have you. In other words, they were a voice for the people of their generation. Thank you, sir, for reacting to them, & HEARING what they were saying.
John Fogerty is a genius songwriter and despite his troubled relationship with the band and his legal troubles still has the chops to play and be relevant.
I remember hearing this song for the first time when I was about 10. And actually CCR was the first CD I ever got for Christmas. That guitar tone is a punch in the face!
Nothing like road tripping in the south listening to Credence. Peanut butter and jelly, just made for each other. 🔥🧡 (or I should say like red beans and rice 😄)
I grew up on the great music of the 60's-70's. CCR has always been one of my favorites. They don't have a bad song! John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. All their songs are great - "Proud Mary", "Lodi", "Green River", "Commotion", "Night Time Is The Right Time", "Cotton Fields", "Travelin' Band", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Suzie Q", "I Put A Spell On You", "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" etc.
My favorite lyric in this song is "where the neon turns to wood." Sometimes, we all need to get out of the stress of the city and spend some time out in nature.
Just a bit of backstory about "CCR" is that they are a very "Southern" band with very liberal views. Most people think they originated in the South, but they actually are from Berkeley CA. The style of music can be a tad leading, or misleading if you don't actually listen. "Green River", and "Fortunate Son" I think are the best examples. "Fortunate Son" has been used probably as much as "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen, in a misguided and, frankly, asinine way to promote ideologies that are not what these songs are even about. It is actually quite the opposite. The lyrical content of these bands is clear if you actually listen. Sorry if I rambled.
CCR songs were short, but dang they were good! They were a favorite of the troops in Vietnam. So, yes their songs show up in movies of that period a lot.
Their songs in many ways were a product of their times--if it wasn't 3 minutes or less, you couldn't get radio airplay. At least, until FM radio came along. Billy Joel laments this specific problem in his song "The Entertainer".
Need to follow up with SWEET HITCH HIKER by CCR Thank you for doing this song , one of my all time favorite as it was played on top 40 back in 1970 24/7 around the clock just hearing that guitar riff makes you so excited !!!!!
Love CCR and this is my favorite CCR number. A great intro guitar hook, and one of the best lyric lines ever written. "Hitch a ride to the end of the highway, where the neon turns to wood." Where the neon turns to wood. So evocative. So correct for the vibe of this song. You can see it in your mind. And that's real artistry.
Creedence Clearwater Revival is a mouthful - that's why most of us who have been fans for 50 years plus ... just say CCR ... The opening guitar riff to this has always reminded me of a bugle call - - - maybe because I was just out of the service when I first heard it.
CCR is so great! I can listen to them whenever or wherever, although it usually makes me dance which is more difficult in a car but I manage😂. It's feel good music for me. Great reaction!
As a kid in junior high, I got a stereo record player for Christmas. The single for "Up Around The Bend" was current at the time, and on the strength of that song, the first album I bought was "Cosmos Factory". From there, CCR became the first band I actually collected, and I had around 5-6 of their albums before I had more than two by anyone else. Finally got to see John (at least) in 2016, in Vegas.
@@jefffogertymusic2023 I Never Liked how they Picked songs as either #1 or #2 etc. I feel there were a lotta #1s that should've been, but Sadly got a different number due to "who sang them"!! 😢
If you've heard one CCR song, then you'll instantly recognize all their songs. Their sound is so consistent that when the lead singer left and started his own band he was sued for sounding just like CCR.
Was out in 1970, loved it then still do. John either with CCR or on his own never disappoints. To me this I put a, Spell on You, Traveling Band are the best. Been a big fan since 68 their first song a hit Suzie Q
Thanks for coming back to Creedence. It’s been awhile. Please react to their song “Long As I Can See The Light”. Most soulful vocal ever by a Caucasian larynx.
Just call them CCR. The song was used in commercials. In the 80’s Finnish band Hanoi Rocks did a cover that received heavy rotation on MTV. If I recall their video correctly, it depicted the song literally, which is how I took the song. Young people in a small town heading out to hang out place in a clearing that everyone knows for a good time. “Bring a song and a smile For the banjo”.
I was a true fan of CCR...at age five😂. I knew all the words to all their songs. Mom was divorced in 1970 and ocasionally dated a guy that wrote music with and for them some. My fifh birthday was live CCR (cover if course) at The Golden Spur on a Sunday, when the place was closed. What amazing music. I think I actually understand it now...in my 50s.
This was the first song I heard on a 45 growing up! It was at my cousins' house and he played it on their record player! Probably about 1970, after it came out! Thanks Jamel!
I first heard this song at a 7th grade school dance when I was 12 years old (that was 52 years ago). Somehow hearing Up Around the Bend that night coincided with my being slammed for the very first time by that speeding freight train called testosterone. What a combination!
