This is CCR at their most soulful best.
edit: That's John Fogerty singing, playing the keyboards, and laying down the saxophone as well!!!

Unfortunately, Fantasy Records was a cheap (and sleazy) outfit. Fortunately, John Fogerty can do it all! Need a session keyboard guy, or a sax player? Nope! With Fogerty playing and arranging, you still get an A+ record on a shoestring budget.

This song was released in 1970. As a Vietnam Vet, I can say, we adopted it as our Anthem. It was the mindset of the troops, that, the ''light'' was the hope that we would return home, to our family.

They move effortlessly through Rock , Country , Blues , Bluegrass , and infuse all of it with so much soul . If I had to pick a band that was representative of America and epitomised all that is great about our modern musical heritage it would be CCR.

I saw the original Creedence at the First Atlanta Pop Festival in 1969 . They came on late in the evening, and I remember everyone up and boogieing around one or two in the morning to “Keep on Chooglin,” with small bonfires burning to ward off the evening chill. They weren’t well known then, and it was one of those magic rock ‘n’ roll experiences.

My Uncle John could ALWAYS play his songs, he just did NOT cuz $$ from performing would go to the crook Saul Zaentz and Fantasy Records.

I believe that when he says 'As long as I can see the light' that he is referring to as long as he sees some reason to come home, he always will. In other words, that he still feels passion from his lover/wife/signifigant other. At least that's how I interpret it. Seems metaphoric to me. He's saying, 'Don't give up on me!'

I saw ccr in 68 in a small venue. By far the best concert I ever went to. In person, they sounded as good as the studio recordings. My daughters and grandchildren were introduced to ccr at a young age. My oldest granddaughter and I used to sing Susie Q on the way to daycare every morning.

John Fogerty not only wrote it sang it and played Guitar on it, but also played the Piano, Electric Keyboards, and Sax. Others who have played around him in performances and the studio over the years have said that Fogerty is a Musical Genius.

This song always makes me think about my dad. It's coming up on the 6th anniversary since his passing. It doesn't get easier, but songs like this hit a little differently. This was the last tune we played at his funeral. Shoot man... hug the ones you love and make damn sure they always know you love them.
