This is my daily carry for a long time now. I've perfected the opening of the blade and get it into position in one move in a second flat. It takes practice, doing the same thing over and over again. It's Luke playing with a Balisong without even thinking about it. It becomes a Conditioned Reflex, doing it without giving it a second thought in case you need to. And ... I love that serated edge 😉

Lynn is an OG!!! He understands knives and like Al Capone understands what the market wants!!! He has produced wonderful designs at reasonable value!!! I currently live in Italy. In Europe a serrated tanto Voyager is currently running 134 Euros in 2022. Its still a great value! This and other voyagers along with other knife types will protect a household. God Bless Lynn for being an innovator and getting it done.

Truth there. My girlfriend's cousin and his entire group of 8 used a cold steel recon tanto as a step jammed in a 2x4 in Afghanistan. He pulled it out and is using it while he's a sheriff's deputy to this day.

Seriously. You can dress up a USA made folder in all the bells and whistles that will make it look pretty on instagram but you will never find a stronger knife than a cold steel. I own my fair share of spyderco, protech, microtechs etc and I know they can never rise to the level of performance you get out of a cold steel in terms of massive abuse.

Bought one after watching this video. Always lobed CS YT videos. Bought a pro lite tanto to open packages at home and loved the blade shape. Bought a voyage bowie as a gift for my dad and another pro lite for my sister. Then after watching the philosophy behind this knife I took the plunge. The style of the blade doesn't take up room in your pocket when closed. The serrated edge cuts deep, processing card board for a bonfire really showed me the cutting power of this knife. The tanto point is incredibly strong and useful, its like having a chisel in your hand. Thank you Mr Thompson for producing knives like this!

I absolutely love the knives Cold Steel provides for its customers. Their lock-up for folding knives has become the standard in what I expect from all of my knives. The Voyager series of knives are the most underrated blades produced. They are unbelievably capable for a folder, the ergos, the weight, the blade shapes, and of course the locks. Oh and Cold Steel (unlike other companies) keeps the prices so low for what you get its crazy. I would recommend everyone pick their favorite blade shape and get an XL Voyager.

2 years I've been abusing the daily hell out of a plain edge version doing factory maintenance work. All the things you shouldn't do to a knife I do to mine. Shearing through sheet metal, prying, light chiseling, chemical exposure, gasket scraping, etc. It's still in excellent shape, although i do keep a less aggressive edge on it than OE.
I stand by the idea that this is the very best all around folder ever designed. Lynn Thompson like the much less prolific Frank Buck filled his career with a passion for the most possible performance out of reasonably carried size package, with every detail seen as critical and failure points unacceptable. Like Frank Buck's 440c Buck 122/124, the 5.5 voyager tanto is that art perfected.

I always carry my two xl Cold Steel tanto voyagers, a Cold Steel counter tac1 and when i can my eight inch tanto Kabar as a backup for whatever pieces I'm packing. I also always carry a Cold Steel finnwolf and a Sog trident for tasks that are easier to do with a smaller knife. I usually also have one or two of my other knives that I rotate with me. If I could only pick one it would have to be one of my voyagers. They can fit in a pocket for when I can't carry knives openly but they are large and strong enough to do most tasks. I think every knife has it's advantages but if you can only have one a large cold steel tanto can do pretty much anything you could need a knife to do.

@@kenmastersmaster No. They aren't the same price.
Find me a brand new AUS10 XL Voyager for less then $50. Find me a large for less then $40. then find me a mdeium for less then $25. Those were the prices they use to cost. Not sale prices. The all day, everyday prices.
The newer voyagers, ARE NOWHERE NEAR THE SAME VALUE.

@@OceanKing6725 there's literally a bunch on eBay for $57-60 for xl voyagers. That's a $5-10 increase over 10 years ago. Ever heard of inflation?

Take some of the curve out of the pommel and reinforce it with something making it viable for impact and maybe just a little more "Guard" length on the blade side so I have less worry about sawing my own fingers off if my grip momentarily fails.

You use the XL Voyagers? You’d be talking about a different knife honestly, although they could use a folder with a steel butt for hammering if people want that. The guard indentation in the handle is substantial already, might be easier to do that with a pseudo-flipper on the blade. Relative to the other products on the market, I’ve never been concerned that Cold Steel blade guards aren’t good enough.

Serrated knife edge is very good at slicing and penetreating through muscle and flesh, but there is potential risk because the blade can stuck when serrations make contact with various types of clothes.

Benchmade, Spyderco, or Zt folders. Locks are not as strong and are more expensive and they dont have a big variety of xl or large fighting folding knives this makes Cold Steel unique among knife companies! Like it or not Cold Steel is a legendary company! Lynn Thompson is a living legend love him or hate him there is no denying that fact!
