Mullet High-Speed Cyclone Dust Collector

  • Your wet dry vac sucks. At least it should. But clogged filters reduce suction leaving you constantly banging out filters, or worse yet running to the store to replace your burnt up vac. The Mullet High-Speed Cyclone Dust Collector strips the air of dirt/debris before it even reaches your vac. Its unique and superior curved cyclone shape throws dust particles to its outer wall dropping them into the dump bin with clean air traveling to your thankful vac (and its filter). That means your suction stays strong, and you get to focus on cleanup instead of cleaning out your vac’s filter.

    I just got this. I ordered it because I was running my vac straight into my table saw ripping plywood. Did great for about three cuts, and then was useless. I finished with the 6 boards I was ripping into 13's and the shop was a mess. Made it worse with the miter saw cutting everything to length. The vac had basically zero suction.
    So, I got fed up and wanted something that wasn't a huge, expensive, stationary HVLP. I also wanted it to be attached to my vac so I could drag it around easily. I thought, "Golly, that's not the cheapest option. It better be worth it."
    Well, it's 100% worth it. Easy to install, and works like a charm. I cleaned out my vac and the filter, then installed the Mullet and cleaned up the whole shop. When I lost exactly zero suction, I figured, what the heck, let's really see what this bad boy can do. I opened up the bag I just emptied my vac into. It was about 10lbs of sawdust and lots of chips and such. I cleaned out the whole bag. The Mullet was about half full by the end. My vac wasn't perfectly clean, but had just a very fine and thin layer of dust inside, and it still had exactly as much suction as it did before.
    I can't wait to try this out on the table saw and miter saw. I fantastic alternative to both the cheap buckets and the expensive HVLP systems.
    If you are debating, stop it. Stop it this instant. And buy direct; it's the best price and you'll not regret a single penny of it.

    Nice design. Love the idea of eliminating seams. Would be great to add a couple 45-degree elbows at the DC intake (instead of hard 90) to improve cfm.

      Good suggestion and one we played with, as it gave us heartburn early on. Opted to keep the total package size as small as possible with a 90. In a lab, we tested CFM with and without the Mullet attached -- stayed the same (i.e., no drop). Smooth-wall ducting + no leaks + a parabolic cyclone wall keeps air moving fast to compared to other systems.

    Love the look of it, and what’s the diameter of the dump hole Where you dump the debris out? And does the cyclone work with water?

      Thanks! That's a 5-inch opening. And, yes, it works just as well with water as it does dust. In fact, we vacuumed up over 8 gallons of water out of an air handler pan (with a plugged drain) and didn't have a drop of water go into the vacuum or its filter.

    How well would this work with a sandblasting cabinet?

    • @mullettools
      @mullettools  ปีที่แล้ว

      Really well. We've had an early sample running with a cabinet for the last two years. Great separation, and with the thick walls of the rotomolded cyclone/dump bin, you don't have to worry about it weakening over time.

    I just got mine. trying to decide on the best shop vac to power it. My dream is that it can handle the shiney new JET 14 SFX that's in the mail. Any thoughts from Mullet would be wildly well appreciated.

      Hey @hacocproltd. Oh man -- lots of new toys! Isn't the 14 SFX Jet's bandsaw? Or are you referring to a new DC they have (that I'm not familiar with)? In short, our thick walls won't collapse under larger systems. The cyclone is finetuned for a shop vac/dust extractor air profile, but you'll still get very good dust separation when connected to a high CFM system.

      @@havocproltdGotcha. Dealer's choice regarding the shop vac -- virtually everything you pick up will separate well with our cyclone. Keep your corrugated hose short to the band saw and find an airtight adapter.
