The liquids are between the faces of old clocks with flat centers. A larger clock face on the projector which stays still and a smaller one on top which is moved by hand. Wattage is ideally 600 to 1000 watts using old style lamps. If using MR16 halogen lamps, ENX 360W were always nice. Too hot and your plates cook. We always rebuilt projectors with larger lamps and replaced the lenses inside the projector with big glass stage light lenses. I worked in San Francisco with oil, water, & alcohol.

Imagine your favorite 60s group and then being in a dark reefer-smoke-filled Fillmore Auditorium or Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco and the light show throbbing in time to the music. It was an incredible experience--especially when everyone was stoned. I think I recently saw a vid of Janis Joplin and a liquid light show going on behind her--not sure where though. Wouldn't have missed it for nothin!

These old school 60's Liquid Lightshows have a real liquid-organic lysergic quality about them that you don't get with more modern-style lightshows, that's what's so cool about them.

This bought back an instant memory to me. 1969 Newport Jazz Festival in Newport, R I . Ten Years After and Jethro Till had the Joshua Lightshow going on in the back ground thru the whole performance. Absolutely mind blowing I was in the press box had a press pass.

I knew Joshua White back in the days of the Fillmore East. That's where I got my start. One of the nicest guys I ever met! Those were the days when everyone worked together and shared what they knew for the love and good of the shows! That's the spirit I see re-emerging here in KCMO when all the local talent gets together!

Did you know Marc who ran the Pig Light Show at the Fillmore East? I used to help out in Glenn McKay's "Headlights" at the Fillmore West.

it actually syncs amazingly with Wish You Were Here somehow. It you start it right after the radio intro. Was looking for something to use for a screen film for WYWH and tested it. 10/10

The pulsing effect is really simple. You take two pieces of curved glass, like the kind they used to use for clock faces, and sandwich a few drops of coloured oil between them. By moving the top piece of glass up and down, you cause the blob to change shape and size.

two clock faces together, between them a mixture of blue oil+ orange water, the top clock face is being lifted off and pushed back down again, squeezing it into a blob. the colors underneath are just colored water in a glass dish.
just food coloring for the water and candy dye to color the oils (mineral oil... cooking oil, whatever)

Greetings from Red Lantern lightshow productions, San Francisco. 50 years ago. Along with the clock glasses, alcohol, Mineral oils and dyes on the overhead projectors, We also used slide projectors with images pertinent to the times... anti war protests. Vietnam war. Urban daily life scenes. Projected through a spinning wheel with gels and openings for a strobe effect.

I've seen quite a number of live psychedelic band performances on TV shows of the late 1960s and it was the norm to chroma key these oil/glycerin/water animations on a blue backdrop or have a camera pointed to a tray of this mixture n key it in live, I think it's really cool!!! :D

I'm in the process of learning how to do these old school 60's Liquid Lightshows, I managed to score myself an overhead projector that I hope to use, and I'm going to see if I can find some clear glass dishes or something I can use on eBay, after that it's a case of buying all the necessary coloured dyes and mineral oil and etc.

    (Intro)
    Wahoo!
Dillydale is Raining (Ping pong ding dong)
Dillydale is Raining (Ping pong ding dong)
Dillydale is Raining (Ping pong ding dong)
Dillydale is Raining (Ping pong ding dong)
    (Verse 1: Jenny Calamity)
You know what's going to happen
when the lightning comes to town.
    You'd better get your umbrella
'cause the rain is comin' down.
    The thunder's boomin' big time
and the sky is dark and grey.
You'd better get yourself a rowing boat
the rain is on its way!
    (Pre-Chorus: Jenny Calamity)
    It's raining, it's pouring
The Mr. Men are snoring now.
    (Chorus: Jenny Calamity)
    And Dillydale is dancin',
tryin' to make it rain on down.
    And Dillydale is dancin',
trying to make it rain on down.
    (Verse 2: Jenny Calamity)
    Now April's known for showers
    and maybe even monsoons.
You'd better get yourself a raincoat
    the downpour's comin' soon.
    (Pre-Chorus: Jenny Calamity)
    It's raining, it's pouring
The Mr. Men are snoring now.
    (Chorus: Jenny Calamity)
    And Dillydale is dancin',
tryin' to make it rain on down.
    And Dillydale is dancin',
trying to make it rain on down.
(Verse 3: Miss Fortune, *Jenny Calamity*)
Hey now I’m going on the road, but I’m not sure
I have another appointment at this morning, so I’ll try it
    Yeah that’s scraping the skylines
    As higher they go
I don’t know what to say it
    *And Dillydale is Dancin’.*
    (Bridge)
Trying to make it rain on down
    and Dillydale is Dancin’
Trying to make it rain on down
    (Chorus: Jenny Calamity)
    And Dillydale is dancin',
tryin' to make it rain on down.
    And Dillydale is dancin',
trying to make it rain on down.
    (Post-Chorus: Jenny Calamity)
    Dillydale is Happy, happy
    Dillydale is Dancing, dancing
    Dillydale is Singing, singing
    Dillydale is Moving, moving
    (Outro: Jenny Calamity)
    And Dillydale is Dancin’.
    And Dillydale is Dancin’.
    Dancing Dillydale (oh oh)
    Dancing Dillydale (eh eh)
    Oh oh
