Most of the real dangerous scenes shown in this video definitely were not filmed in Germany. The license plates on the cars are not German. We don't have five-lane parts of the highway where the left lane drivers cruise and other cars overtake in zigzags to the right and left. We are a very disciplined nation. We generally drive in the rightmost lane possible and only overtake on the left! After overtaking, you must immediately clear the overtaking lane again to prevent accidents! If you see 4 to 5 Ferraris "racing", they are usually rich foreigners who use our roads for a "fun trip" and are actually not up to the demands of our traffic.
❗️ Danke
This weekend, when all Brits come for a big race😂
that's right ( das ist richtig )
Well, that is exactly what I was about to write right now. A lot of the shown footage is not from Germany! And still if it is, Accidents happen even here, but the least ammount of accidents in Germany happen on the "Autobahn". The most severe crashes usually happen outside of the ´"Autobahn", where speedlimits dont exceed 100km/h.
For me personally, having a quite fast car, its rarely possible to approach 200km/h due to high traffic or common sense that you cant rely on everyone to judge your speed right (Like in the clip where the guy pulls from the right to the left lane right in front of the way faster car).
The 2 most important things, contributing to our very good crash statistics, are a very high level of education and training you have to complete for a german drivers licence as well as our mandatorry vehicle checkup every two years, wich sorts out cars that are unsafe to drive.
That's it exactly, luckily I rarely see slalom drivers on the Autobahn, but it also happen with our 3-4 lanes. The most important point is our driving license training. The kids today can hardly afford a rag (German synonym for driver licens) anymore because some of them cost €4.000. I've also rarely seen an accident on the Autobahn. More happens on country roads and expressways and especially from the crazy guys from abroad who think they want to reach speeds that in their country only airplanes can achieve and then impale their priceless cars on the guard rails. Driving over 200 km/h is not like walk in the park
some clips in this video was not filmed on the autobahn
The green car that flipped wasn‘t German
only few clips are filmed on the Autobahn
most actually, all the crazy idiots lane splitting for example were not filmed on the autobahn
@@lynnm6413nö
As most people have already written, most of the videos are not from German Autobahn. 65-70% of the Autobahn in Germany have no speed limit. Of these 65-70%, at least 50% are usually so full that you are lucky to drive 100km/h or are too curvy. In the end, a few percent remain on which you can really drive fast. In addition, we are trained very well to get our driver's license. And finally, our cars undergo a very strict technical inspection every two years. Brakes, tires, chassis, frame/body, etc. Technical modifications (Including different rims or even just different seats, etc) are also only permitted if the installed components have been tested and approved by experts and have a permit from a government agency. All this together makes the German Autobahn very safe.
Btw. most fatal accidents do not occur on Autobahn, but on Landstrassen (country roads). A speed limit of 60-100 km/h usually applies here. These country roads are usually narrow and there are often trees right next to the road, which is why country roads are so dangerous.
Sorry, but this is mostly NOT German Autobahn. In most cases the plates of the cars are not German, or the traffic signs. This is pur fake news and click bait.Yes, around 70% don't have a speed limit. But if you get into an accident driving more than 130 km/h, you will always have to pay, even if the accident wasn't your fault at all.
This isn't exactly true. Yes, there's a very high chance that you'll be partially at fault (Teilschuld), but it's not always. If the Judge rules that the accident would've happened at a lower speed as well, or was intentionally or recklessly provoked by another party, you'll be at no fault at all. This isn't usually the case, but should be considered.
You are right, yes.
7:00 Easy.
Germany Age:18 Trainer: Professional driving teacher Costs: Around 2.000 - 3.000 Euro
USA Age: 16 Trainer: Mom, Dad or Siblings Costs: around 100 Dollar
Pretty sure it costs more nowadays.
There is also the fact that you have half a year of 2 hour theory lessons, after which you have to pass a VERY difficult test. Only by passing the theory section will you even be allowed to start driving lessons.
Some people have to try a few times to even pass theory, so the cost ramps up considerably
This is not accurate. In the US, to procure a drivers license before age 18, it is required to take an approved traffic safety class and pass a written and skills test. You can acquire a learner's permit at 15, but that requires passing the written test and the learner to be accompanied by a licensed driver with a minimum of 5 years driving experience.
You forgot the cars. As I know every car is allowed to drive in USA. In germany we are forced to have a checkup every two years, if we failed we are not allowed to use the car except for drive them to repair.
Get into an accident our cars are much safer this way than many cars in USA.
@@jurgenbaumann67Don't forget that the cars needs to be insured otherwise it's also not allowed to be driven.
Getting a drivinglicinse in germany is like getting a pilotlicense in some other countries.
Most of these clips were not recorded in germany (other road signs, road markings, etc.)
No matter what, often says we dont have speed Limit is a biggest fake,we have
About 65% of the autobahn has no speed limit.
BUT
We have a recommended travel speed of 130km/h, if you drive faster any insurance will regard you as "partly responsible" in any kind of accident.
That means that your insurance fee will rise even if you didn´t do anything wrong.
and we have constructions on the autobahn for like 30% of the way so you gotta slow down to like 80 xd
@@Foatizenknechtldont forget all the traffic which often doesnt allow you to drive as fast as you want
It should be mentioned that there are also speed limits - on construction sites it should clearly be 80 or slower.
Then 100 for noise protection at night and 120 where it is necessary for safety reasons. Relying on 130 would be negligent in these places...
Hey Dwayne...6:04 this is not the autobahn. On the autobahn you are not allowed to pass on the right. You simple cant drive the way you want. Besides its another country anyways
Wenn it comes to death statistic also the road condition plays a crucial role. In the USA for example you have potholes and we have airport runways in comparison...super expensive to keep it safe for these kind of speeds but thats makes a difference
In driving school we learned that we were basically driving multiple vehicles - the one in front, the one behind, the ones an the adjacent lanes and ours. Everything a driver does directly influences those others, so the driver needs to keep them in mind and in view.
"The Autobahn" is not "A road" its the motorway system like in the UK, or the interstate in the US
Edit:
not the entire Autobahn is Speedlimit free, like said in the video, with multiple stretches down to 130, 100, 80, or even 70 km/h depending on location, and /or construction sites.
You're expected to go approx 130km/h when its allowed, and you vehicle can reach it (Richtgeschwindigkeit) and aren't allowed to even enter, if your vehicle cant even reach 60km/h (that's why mobile cranes and such have the 61km/h sticker).
but as soon as you exceed the 130km/h, you're automatically (at least partially) responsible for any accident that might happen.
Not the interstate, the freeway
@@lynnm6413 isn't the interstate a federal expressway connecting different states, while the freeway being (at least partially) owned by the states ?
the Autobahn (and the smaller Bundesstraßen) are managed on the federal level, while Landesstraßen are managed by the states in germany
@@nobodx no idea. I was going more off the fact that the Autobahn has clear dividers between directions.
@ based on my limited knowledge on the US system:
the interstate is a connection between states, while the freeway can be limted to a state
both, the freeway and the interstate have clear entry and exit-points without any crossings, traffic lights etc.the intersate is funded and maintained by the federation, while the freeways can (at least partially) be managed by the state.
In Germany, the Autobahn (denoted by a "A")and the Bundestraßen (denoted with a "B") are managed by the "Bund" (Federal Republic of Germany) meanwhile the "Landesstraßen" ("L") are managed by the Bundesländer (States of germany), with "lesser" ones maintained by the "Kreis" as Kreisstraßen" ("K"), Gemeinde- and Stadtstraßen (Managed by cities)
i am a german my self and love driving fast but i only do that if im conftable doing so and the traffic allows it and many of the shown clips of crashes are not because of the speed but just not beeing focused on driving and neglegence and many in that video weren't even from germany.
I'm not for a speed limit.
and we are the last country that has parts with no speed limit and it is highly valued for car people and should never change
This video is so weird ^^ ... There were clips of American rail track workers from the 1920ies mixed in ^^ He was going for most emotional impact rather than presenting facts properly! ... You should not watch this type of trash and think is represents Germany :P
The licence plates in most of these clips were definitely not German (saw American, Polish, one I did not recognize at all) as was the landscape. At 1:33 you see a 12 lane highway with mostly SUV and pick-ups - it looks American to boot. There is no 12 lane Autobahn in Germany at all and the car mix is totally non-german. Wonder where he scraped these bits of footage from to create his wishful dream version of a gonzo bias video.
On the Autobahn you are always held to adjust your speed to the situation and traffic. There are plenty of rules. If you drive recklessly you may loose your life, your licence, your insurance coverage or you might go to jail for grossly negligent behaviour or man slaughter in case of an accident with fatalities. There are consequences! Inappropriate speeding, tail gating, passing on the right aso. are forbidden. Also stretches of the Autobahn are monitored by helicopter and civil police.
There are really high safety standards for German cars that have to pass the TÜV inspection every two years. Driving licences require effort to obtain. You need to pass a written test as well as the driving exam that includes tricky situations on real roads and a single mistake will be a fail. Hence the lower rate of casulties in Germany as compared to the US.
I am afraid that you never read the comments but I hope you do ^^ ... oh well ^^ Hope you will get a better picture when you visit Germany.
Please stick to music and food videos ... those are more fun - even if full of bias and prejudice :D
The biggest danger on the Autobahn are tourists who think they have to go 300 km/h.
6:17 That is not germany.
Well, it's kind of a special case - because we germans are sticklers for rules, and have quite heavily enforced traffic laws, as well as a few more things like pretty good driver education, a fairly well -built emergency response system and we generally build good cars, it works for us. That said, it would probably be much less safe in a lot of different places - personally I tend to enjoy that if the conditions allow you can try and (at your own risk) push your limits.
That most of the dangerous scenes in this video are not indeed from Germany has been pointed out before.
At 4:25 if you do the math, 309km/h is just about 192 mph.
what limits? every monkey is able to send it in a straight line...
There is a speedlimit inbuilt in every car - when the padl hits the metall. That's enough. 😂
12:00 the woman was not killt of cause of his driving. she was killed by her own misstake after she was scared from a fast car. but it is corect that he was given a partguilty because of reclessnes. Pharagraph 1: mutual consideration! i know many woman ,they never driven on autobahn in there 10 years+ drivingtime and when they are intimidated
“The autobahn fatality rate of 1.6 deaths per billion travel-kilometres compared favorably with the 4.6 rate on urban streets and 6.5 rate on rural roads.”
what a crappy video. Not yours, the one you react to. Clips of people driving highly illegal, overtaking left and right like this is a computergame and not even really making clear that this is not legal. Stuff like that drives me mad.
06:50 and most of these don't even happen at the Autobahn but on country roads with speed limits, just because of reckless driving!
And don't forget that in many traffic accidents on the Autobahn trucks are involved, their drivers are not following the rules (for example about rest times) and many aren't even german.
Many poor truck drivers from east Europe are forced by their bosses to speed, to drive longer times than allowed to be on time, to drive vehicles that aren't fit for the street. That causes the worst accidents involving many cars.
4:20 Yep, over 200 km/h nearly any car will reach a limit where "control over your vehicle" is a VERY optimistic assumption.
Any little bump, twig, pothole or even a stiff windbreeze can cause you to crash , if you reaction is to slow or to harsh.
It helps a bit if you have a car that is build for such speed but if you make a mistake ... at that speed your window to correct is miliseconds.
5:55
Thats a clip from the US. Ur not allowed to drive like this in germany.
While speed is not a factor, safety clearly is. You are not allowed to drive wrecklessly(!). You are enforced to take the left lane to pass other cars. You are not allowed to drive close behind other vehicles and have to put the break-distance into account. Many more rules are to follow. Its a system.
So the system works a little bit like this:
Right lane: Mostly trucks and trailers. (Travel lane for slow drivers)
Middle lanes: Casual drivers. (Travel lane for all of the normal cars and average speed)
Left lane: Has to stay free unless you want to pass somebody. (even if the Autobahn is completely free, you are not allowed to stay on this lane)
So if you want to pass somebody, you have to make sure nobody comes from behind left of you, then you speed up and change into the lane left of you. You pass the cars you wanna pass and then you have to go back to the middle lanes.
Same for trucks and trailers, but they do the same thing with the right and middle lanes instead of with the middle and left lane.
So for both, trucks/trailers and for cars, there are two lane-segments so to speak. One for traveling, and one for passing.
In general, the more left you go, the more fast you have to be.
Also, you are not allowed to drive in germany without licence.
Pls is it possible that u choose videos from german people or foreign people living in germany if u want some things explained about germany? It's always the same with americans talking about foreign subject, so overdramatic, wrong choice of footages, wrong informations and overall so superficial you learn nothing from it. Love your videos though
05:57 If you watch videos that have been edited together, you should be aware that many of the clips have nothing to do with the topic, the country, etc. It's the same here, 90% or more of these drivers who drive so irresponsibly are not from Germany, they come to Germany to be able to drive so fast once in their lives. There are rules that these idiots don't know or don't follow, e.g. overtaking on the right or making a wild lane change, all of that and more is forbidden. You learn all of that in driving school in Germany. But I assume that it's the same in other countries, it's just that these idiots don't stick to it! I've had my driving license for over 40 years, I also like to drive fast, even very fast, but I've never seen a German driver drive like that. I'm not saying that they don't exist, but never to such an extreme, especially not when the motorway is so busy!
The clips at 6:00, 11:00 and 13:00 Minutes are not from a German Autobahn. At 6:00 that is not an Autobahn traffic situation. Usually, People drive on the right lane and pass on the middle or left lane, and the middle and left lane has higher speeds than the right one. And it is forbidden to drive faster by permanently switching lanes, using the gaps and pass on the right side.
The clips on 11 and 13 minutes show foreign license plates and traffic signs.
When I was younger I usually drove 180 to 240 and drove a few million Kilometers. Now I'm 69 and since I'm aware that reaction time and perception decreases with age, I'm comfortable with driving 120 to 140 usually, in rare exceptions if I'm in a hurry, I might go into 160 to 190 range.
I'm pro speed limit, not for security reasons (the Autobahns are pretty safe) but because of the emitted climate gases. So in my opinion, we don't need speed limits any more as soon as all cars are electric.
You got tricked by a fake video! Almost none of it happened in Germany, especially not on a Autobahn.
It's just clickbait to get views. Lots of people have been fooled like that
Germany has fewer traffic fatalities than the U.S., even with some autobahn sections having no speed limit, for several reasons:
- Better infrastructure: German highways are high-quality, with clear rules like no passing on the right and dynamic speed control systems.
- Strict driver training: Getting a license in Germany requires extensive theory and practice, including highway driving.
- Safer vehicles: Regular inspections (TÜV) ensure cars are roadworthy, while the U.S. has more older, poorly maintained vehicles.
- Disciplined drivers: Germans generally follow rules like keeping a safe distance and creating rescue lanes, while U.S. drivers tend to be less consistent.
- Efficient emergency services: Faster response times and mandatory first aid training increase survival rates.
Also, most accidents don’t happen on highways but on city streets or rural roads, where Germany has stricter speed limits and better enforcement. 🚗✨
The selfish man gets 19 months, cops in the USA doing the pit stop maneuver get 0 months, because they did the selfish act in an official capacity; also called qualified immunity.
Many of the idiots shown in this video would not have fun on Germany's streets for long - but the police, the judges and the prison administration all the more. If a bystander dies or is seriously injured, it is murder or attempted murder under German law. In any case, the punishment can range up to life imprisonment.
Three words: responsibility, training, ability
In this video some clips are wrong. You can see sign beside the road with asian letters, maybe China. We haven´t such signs. We only have roman letters.
Yes, we have no speed limit, even some people want to invent it - for climate. I think thats dumb.
And you aren´t really allowed to drive as fast as you can. It is not allowed to
- overtake someone onto the right side.
- bring someone, even not yourself, into danger.
13:50 The driver (a czech billionaire) was taken in front of the court for racing against the clock and bring others in danger. He tested his car for maximum speed and drove 417 km/h (259 mph) and posted in on TH-cam. The court said: NOT GUILTY. Because: He drove on a less used part of the Autobahn, also he did it between 4:30 annd 5:00 in the morning, when there are not many cars (most people are still sleeping). Also he had the abilities to handle the car. So noone was in danger. And because of no speed limit he didnt do anything wrong.
§1 (2) StVO: Es darf niemand geschädigt oder gefährdet oder mehr als den Umständen entsprechend notwendig behindert oder belästigt werden.
"No one may be harmed or endangered or more than is necessary be hindered or harassed under the circumstances." (translated by MS Translator)
I hate this video. It shows footage almost exclusively NOT from the Autobahn.
you have mandatory driving lessons on the autobahn when you make your license, so you learn how to do it correctly. the autobahn is not a racetrack, if you drive by the rules its not more dangerous to drive 200+ kmh as when you go 100.
Why every foreigner still calls it "A Road" with no speed limit ? It's not A ROAD. It's our entire highway system. "A Road" sounds like one single racetrack from north to south. BTW: Many video footage is not even from Germany.
Maybe it sounds like that to a German, because "a" and "one" is the same word in German. But it's really about if such road exists. They're not making a statement about how many there are. If you ask "is there a person on earth that is taller than 2 meters?" You're not really asking if there is exactly one single person with that property.
The A555 (opened in 1932) only became the diplomat´s raceway when Bonn became the capital of West Germany (1949)
Fun fact: The now A555 was opened as "crossing free, motorized vehicles only" street - The term Autobahn didn't exist at this time.
When Hitler came to power he downgraded the A555 to a "County Road" to be able to claim that he has build and opened the First Autobahn (at this time Reichsautobahn - a term Hitler introduced).
The Name Diplomatnrennbahn (local slang word) was also used for parts of the B9 through Bonn. Most Embassies where in the Bad Godesberg District of Bonn (South part of the City) while the German administrative Institutions (Bundestag, Bundesrat, The presidents-Palace, the house of the Chancelor where in the north and middle part of Bonn (Regierungsbezirk). The Diplomats used the connecting main street (The Bundesstrasse 9 or short B9) very often and because they didn't have to pay speeding tickets very often in a "to fast" manner.
The A59 (other side of the rhine river parallel to the A555) also has had the same nickname because it was the connection to the Cologne-Bonn Airport where most of the diplomats and state visitors (Kennedy, The Queen,...) landed to visit officially the german Goverment. - I can't count how often the A59 was partly temporary closed for Public to let Some Head of State driving secure and fast to their Embassy with huge police escort (or back to the airport) in the 70s and 80s.
The A555 maybe had the Nickname (I can't associate the name to this Autobahn) because it was a direct connection to the "Posh shops" in Cologne from the Embassies. Bonn was a little Village (Nickname Bundeshauptdorf - Federal Main hamlet word by word or Capital "hamlet" in meaning) and all the Expensive shopping options where in Cologne.
@@dirkspatz3692 ...and because of the Cologne nightlife, which did not exist in the small "federal village" Bonn (Bundesdorf)
Ja wir Haben Autobahnen ohne Tempolimits und wir lernen das sogar in der Fahrschule
A speed limit would save 0,0 liters of gass with my car ...because my car doesnt't run on gas! 😆
Germany have more quality controlls for everything, the german TÜV (Technischer Überwachungs-Verein) (Association for Technical Inspection) is more complex then other countrys.
even my lighter has TÜV Süd written on it... completely alien concept for americans
Some weeks ago I had a guest from the UK who had never been in Germany and drove with him on the Bahn......
After some days he asked me: What was the highest speed?
And I said: a bit more than 210km/h........did you feel unsafe?
He answered: absolutly not!!!!!!!!!
I even didnt register it..........

bad original video, sorry
There is not only black and white, not everyone who drives fast is as irresponsible as shown in the video (incorrectly, as it is not in Germany).
Overtaking on the Autobahn is only allowed on the left side. Overtaking right (as seen in the video) is absolutely forbidden
Even if the car in front is going so slowly as to might cause an accident on the Autobahn?
You can't pass on the right just very very slowly to get past them?
Is it totally verboten ?
@gregorygant4242 It's only allowed in traffic jams (I think at a speed less than 60kph)
@@Andi_mit_E It's called underpassing in English don't know if there's a German word for it probably not since it's forbidden to do no need for a word for it.
I really don't understand why people don't understand this. We build cars that can go 300 km/h, we need roads where we can go 300 km/h. It's that easy.
😃🤩driving fast = fun = adrenaline = you feel alive = feeling the horsepower and the engine sound are incomparble. unforntunately there are more and more speed limits .😔🤥if i drive slow i'm no more concentrated on the road so for my person it's more bettter driving fast to be focused at the traffic. no one is forced to drive fast, so these (slow) 🏎drivers can freely decide the speed they prefer. But i want to drive fast, i want to reach my goal fairly quickly. and u know: time is money..... - let's have a race. 🏎
Imagine everything is in place: nice weather, no traffic, no construction work, your car is passing the magical number of 200 km/h. It's pure fun for 5 minutes. Then you realize it's pretty boring! There are no curves, you can see for miles ahead. Every grand pa can drive 200km/h on the Autobahn.

A lot of people already commented on that: Not all of these clips are from a German Autobahn. Thank god! And I completely pro speed limit!
Some Parts of Autobahn has no speed limits but most parts have.
about 70% is speed limit free
Also brauchte es kein Speedlimit.
In Germany everyone is an almost professional grade driver.
To get your licence you have to have a fixed amount of mandatory theoretical and practical hours with a professional driving teacher. And there is a rigoros foundation of laws for driving beginning with the § 1 StVO: "gegenseitige Vorsicht und Rücksichtnahme" meaning: Mutual caution and consideration.
So the accidents in the video (which are mostly NOT on the german Autobahn!!!) are few and far between. The worst (mass accidents) are often because of spontanous unexpected weather phenomena like Black ice, Aquaplaning, fog or a sand cloud. And even then it is expected of you to drive cautious. You mostly drive with foresight, reckoning with the mistakes others might make. You only overtake on the left, keep a save distance to the car in front of you, only drive as fast as you feel secure with and have everything in view.
My driving teacher alsways said the driving licence is a "look" licence.😃
It's not that simple. As a driver, you have at least the obligation to ensure that you pose no danger to yourself or others, and if a Bugatti is blasting down the highway at 450 km/h, there can still be legal issues if the road isn’t completely traffic-free and you record it yourself or are observed doing so. Free driving ≠ free pass.
The fact that most videos of this kind show dangerous scenes that were NOT filmed in Germany actually shows that things are much more civilized on our Autobahn. Otherwise, there would have been enough dangerous scenes that were actually filmed on the Autobahn.
I have been driving on the Autobahn for over thirty years and can count the number of times I have seen someone overtake on the right on one hand. There are of course very fast cars in the left lane, but you are prepared for that when you drive on the Autobahn. I see dangerous situations more often on country roads than on the Autobahn.
I am still in favor of a speed limit of 130, but not because I think the Autobahn is dangerous, but for environmental reasons.
No, it wasn't related to the scene you saw before. Sry but 18 month are legit, it wasn't his fault that she didn't had the nerves to drive on a Highway, where you have to expect some Highspeed. I mean maybe you got it wrong, that 18 month sentencing wasn't because he hitted her, he never did. It was because of that Flyby that made her panic.
12:03 That was the most they were able to convict him to. There were a lot of people who wanted him to be locked up for 5 to 10 years.
The problem at the time was, that traffic law did not account for that sort of negligance so the judges (yes plural) had no choice but to consider this "a manslaughter caused by an accident", since the death of these two was not intentional.
They even discussed, if they could call it intentional (asking higher courts for advice) so they could charge him for murder (25 years behind bars).
In the aftermath the traffic law was adapted to include an gross negligance part, so that anyone causing harm in a similar way, can be charged in a reasonable fashion ...
The Autobahn dates back to 1929, connecting Cologne and Bonn. It was not known as "Diplomatenbahn" in those days, the nickname was given long after WWII when Bonn became the captial of West Germany.
Asking for a speed limit in Germany is like asking for more gun control in the US. For many of us the Autobahn without a generell speed limit feels like personal freedom in the same way many Americans want to be able of carrying a gun.
That's a seriously bad video, because most of the clips are not even from Germany.
Do we have 6 lanes? I’m so confused from this video despite I’m a German
We "as an efficient people who like rules" also have the Deutsche Bahn which, as a corporation, seems to consider efficiency optional and has a foggy understanding of rules. So why not also have a motorway system that has large stretches without any speed limit?
Consider the idea that we think of driving as a luxury, a privilege even. We sink a couple thousand Euros into the driver's license, another couple into the vehicle itself and it would be a whole lot of money going to waste if we crashed it. Not very efficient.
And driving school teachers are hardasses. They fail you for every slight, every oversight, every curveball question you didnt catch. You need to know the traffic rules like the back of your hand, and then make use of the knowledge on the fly.
So when you drive a car, you only ever drive a car. You do nothing else, you are laser focused on the road. Everything from navigation to snacks to whatever else is the duty of your front-seat passenger. Because you are driving.
Ironically enough, the lack of speed limit works the way it does and plays out with so little casualties is because german drivers are super disciplined. We drive in the right lane, maybe in the middle lane if we want to go a little faster, and the left lane is for overtaking. Its a lane that isnt meant for staying on too long. So I can safely say that most of the crazy scenarios in the video arent from Germany.
But thats a facet no one ever seems to grasp because everyone seems to think that everyone else drives as sloppily as they themselves do and they treat the Autobahn like Mad Max lawless badlands when it isnt.
Also no sane person goes thundering down the road at 350 km/h. You can do that, you are legally allowed to, but most people have a very good grasp on which speeds they are comfortable with.
I like your reactions ( 😮 ) 😁👌 Greetings from Cologne 🇩🇪
what a bad video in many regard (not your reaction, the source video) full of false claims, fake footage and semi correct statements.
You forgot to display a very special thing which is only given in germany: it's called the "Rettungsgasse", which means a special behavior on the streets if a crash or other important shit happens. Take a look at it!!
About your assumption at 9:54 you're quite right. We generally assume that everybody had to pass the exams for their driver's licence and hence knows about the rules and responsibilities of a driver. And to be honest it seems to be working better than I'd expect if hadn't made that experience myself most of the times driving on the autobahn.
Depending on the kind of car, driving around 200 km/h doesn't really feel frightening. Renting a VW Passat for a business trip I was surprised finding myself driving at 200 km/h looking at the speed meter one moment when there were rarely any cars in front of me. And it's probably even more extreme with a large Audi, Mercedes or BMW limousine. However, feeling so detached of the environment is making me nervous and I actually enjoy driving a smaller car more even though I can't go that fast.
BTW, only very few people can afford to drive such expensive cars going beyond say 230 km/h. And even the Germans who can would probably do so only if there's less traffic like in the early morning hours of a sunday or late at night. Some of the racing scenes shown in the video don't seem to be taken on a German Autobahn - some of the traffic signs seem to be foreign. And overtaking on the right side is strictly forbidden. Since Autobahn police is patrolling under cover, ie. with cars showing no characteristic painting of the police, some times doing such dangerous races could get them into serious trouble - even here in Germany (even more so in Switzerland but that's a different story).
About the punishment for the driver who caused a mother and he child to die, sadly, German laws and judgements are sometimes really difficult to grasp. And I'm affraid that it has to do with the car industry have one of the strongest, if not the strongest lobby groups in our country.
In this case it was "only" 18 months, because he wasn't directly involved. He drove reckless and the mother panicked causing the fatal accident herself. Would he have touched the other car, even when it would have been with the fraction of a hair, he would have gotten the sentencing for murder.
I am on the Autobahn for work every day. Most of the time is 120 km per hour and if a route comes without speed limit then it is a construction site. Driving like in paradise was once upon a time.
this video shows why a speed limit doesn't make sense.
On most parts of the Autobahn is such a lot of traffik, so you can be happy to drive 30 kmh😂😂😂
I'm also a supporter of the speed limit, but the average german drives not over 200 km/h!! Usually it's between 140 and 180 km/h. Most cars aren't even able to drive more then 200 km/h. And the average is not on a race while driving on the Autobahn, but on their way to work or bringing their kids to school. Stuff like that. Only stupid tourists are those who say things like "I'm going to Germany, rent a Ferrari or Porsche and then drive as fast as the car can go." And they don't have any clue of the street rules we learned for many weeks at the driving school. Also most germans don't drive risky, cause getting your driver's license is soo expensive so don't wanna risk losing it!
Dwayne, there are rules and laws for the "Autobahn" so that you can drive safely without speed limits in some sections and no, not the entire road network of the "Autobahn" is without speed limits because there are construction sites, quiet zones, environmental zones and danger zones where you will see speed limits. If you are caught there, you can expect to receive very expensive fines and a driving ban!Dwayne, some of the footage in this video of accidents was not taken on German "Autobahn", they are more likely American and Russian sample footage. Information on data protection and laws: German drivers will not see dashcam footage of serious accidents because of data protection and prohibitions! Again, the accident footage in this video comes from America and Russia.PS: When you get your driver's license, you learn how to drive on the "Autobahn" with a real driving instructor! Driving fast in the overtaking lane (the left lane is only for overtaking!) is practiced and learned in normal "Autobagn" traffic. Those who don't follow the rules and laws on the "Autobahn" are foreigners who think they won't be punished or caught so harshly. The death of the young mother and child can be explained by her own misconduct, as the test driver in the Mercedes is only partially to blame!
I drove 200mph on the German Autobahn in a Tesla Model S Plaid (Test drive). Insane!
Many of the clips used in the video are not from the Autobahn, as you can easily tell by looking at the numberplates or the streetsigns (on the autobahn, 95% of the signs are blue). Ofcs we have bad drivers too and drivers like this may also exist here, but its absolutly not like they way the video is potraying it.
Only works in a country where people stick to the rules and show consideration for others
The higher responsibility at higher speed has actually severe consequences:
Insurance companies may reject to pay for accidents, even if not caused by a fault by you.
Getting a fine when involved in an accident, even if not caused by a fault by you.
Facing prison penalties when involved in an accident, even if not caused by a fault by you.
Because the German law sees the speed itself as a cause.
12:27 - That's German jurisdiction for you. You have to commit the evil stuff for the high charges. Like tax fraud. Even pados get away with five.
We may no have speed limits but we still have rules. Overtaking for example is only allowed on the left. Swerving around cars in different lanes like you see around 6:00 is illegal. It's also a rule to drive on the rightmost lane your speed and the current traffic situation allows, which allows for overtakes on the left.
When I was a kid and we drove to my grandparents my dad was always casually going 240 km/h 😅
But videos like this PISS ME OFF SO MUCH!
First of all and as others pointed out a lot of clips are not from the Autobahn and are people just speeding unlawfully. That's not how we keep a lower death rate. If you drive like that on the Autobahn, with all the weaving through lanes and sh*t, you'll get thrown out of the country and can never come back. And lost your right to wear socks in sandals.
No seriously, no one drives like that here, that's *not normal*. I never in my life saw someone driving like that or even overtaking a car on the right on the Autobahn and I spent my fair share on that thing. Neverrrr!
So if videos like that just bring one person over here and they think they can just let loose, those videos could kill people. Maybe I'm overdramatizing, but I'm so done with this.
Driving on the Autobahn at high speeds or even medium speeds is a serious responsibility and tiring because you have to be 100% alert, be aware of your surroundings at all times and the only thing you do is driving (maybe listen to sth or talk). If we are on the Autobahn for an extended time the front-seat passenger also is vigilant and makes sure the driver is fully alert.
When I'm in the passenger seat I check if my husband needs a conversation to not potentially drift off mentally and physically, for example when it's already dark outside. One time I felt he was not at a 100%, so I told him to stop at the next resting place and take 10 minutes.
I feel like I'm on a rant but this video is such a bad representation of what the Autobahn actually is. It's really frustrating to me
just 18 month because the mother paniced in a normal situation and did something wrong on her own ... he just spooked a her with his high speed. This case was a perfect example of sharing responsibility above certain speeds even if the speedster technicly did nothing wrong. As harsh as it sounds, but it was a fair judgment.
If you make your licence in Germany and drive by the rules another car driving by the rules shouldnt be able to spook you. A speed limit wouldnt be able to prevent drivers just reacting wrong and we know the consequences of such panic reactions kill at almost all speeds ... countless of cases with people killing themself just because an animal spooks them etc.
most serious or even fatal accidents are not caused directly by "high speed" (whatever that is) alone, but by *_TOO_* high and improper non-adjusted speed that doesn't match road conditions, traffic density, weather (rain, fog, snow), safety distances, abilities of drivers (or the cars themselves), etc, and of course by ignoring traffic laws like driving right, overtaking only left, no racing, following local speed limits, etc.
While 200+ km/h on an almost empty track may be perfectly fine for some, even "only 60" in a foggy or snowy construction zone counts towards "accidents caused by speeding".
9:30
funny how you repeat exactly what is written first in the road traffic regulations in Germany.
§ 1
Basic rules
(1) Participation in road traffic requires constant caution and mutual consideration.
(2) Anyone taking part in traffic must behave in such a way that no one else is harmed, endangered or hindered or inconvenienced more than is unavoidable under the circumstances.
That guy should have get 18 years in prison, and not 18 months only.
About 13:27 above around a speed of 80 km/h aerodynamic drag R.a begins to grow by the square of speed v , ie. R.a ~ v*v . That means that consumption is growing not proportionately with speed but proportionally with speed squared. The reason for that is found in turbulent flow becoming increasingly relevant whereas below a speed 80 km/h aerodynamic drag R.a is caused predominantly by laminary flow of air which increases proportionally with speed v , ie. R.a ~ v .
The current modern day record is 417 km/h in a Bugatti Chiron, that record sparked a discussion on the introduction of a speed limit of 130 km/h similar to other European countries. Hopefully it will not make it through legislation for another 100 years. There are speed limits in place on many sections of the Autobahn already though and when you drive above 130 km/h you automatically take the responsibility for any accidents that happen that you're involved in.
Why not? We have well educated driver, the most parts of the Autobahn are in better condition as in other country's. 05:25 It is not completely correct. The Autobahn was invented years before the Nazis came to power. They used the building of more tracks to reduce the unemployment rate.
Other point: To overtake on the right side is prohibited! If you are caught for this you left your driving license. A lot of the shown accidents are not in Germany. You can see this at the signs at the sides.
Funnily enough the Nürburgring has speed limits for tourists
Already the first spoken sentence in the video about the Autobahn is wrong: No general speed limit does not mean you may drive as fast as you want. You may drive as fast as it's safe! There are factors like weather, visibility, condition of the road, other traffic and much more, that do NOT allow you to drive fast.
Some facts about the speed limit and the death rates: there are only 10% of all fatal traffic incidents happening on the Autobahn. And not all of them are due to speeding. Only about half of that. So only 5% of the fatal accidents are on the Autobahn. 70% of the Autobahn are unrestricted, so maybe 3-4% are really on the parts with no speed limit. That is why we also have ultra low rates of fatal accidents, like basically all of western Europe. Most fatal accidents happen on extra urban roads with 100 kph speed limits though.
I support the to keep the 'no limit' sections of the Autobahn. No point in having a sporty car or such, when you can only go 130 km/h. Just takes the fun out of it. But i do get the people who support the limit. And it would make the driving experience more relaxed. When driving on the Autobahn, you always have to be aware of traffic around you, and watch out for fast cars closing up in your rear mirror. I personally don't mind that, but that's just me.
Honestly, most times on those open sections its just accelerating and breaking, accelerating, breaking,.... That's what uses the most fuel (or kWh)
In short:
1. The atobahn is not a lawless area. You are not allowed to drive as fast or drive crazy as you want without being punished. You can only drive so fast that you don't endanger others. Overtaking is only permitted on the left.
2. Many parts have speed limits. Even in areas without speed limits, studies show most people only drive around 130 to 140 km/h (80 to 87 mph). Most germans would prefer a speed limit of 130 km/h on the entire autobahn.
3. Most of the clips in the video were not even recorded in germany. Some of the clips recorded in germany apparently show English-speaking tourists. The clips almost exclusively show idiots who confuse highways with race tracks and (would) violate german traffic rules.
Zu Punkt 2, absoluter Blödsinn hier zu verbreiten das die meisten Deutschen ein Tempolimit begrüßen würden. Es hat seinen Sinn und bleibt dabei. 👻
Where should I even begin, there is so much wrong in the first third alone. 1.) The A555 only became a diplomatic racetrack after the Second World War (after which Bonn became the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany.) 2.) The first Autobahn were planned and started to be built before the Nazis. And it's so much more wrong. But what still bothers me is the street at 06:00 minutes where this idiot drives like stupid and also the one where the first accident is shown are not even Autobahnen, they are not even in Germany
You really can't compare German traffic deaths to other countries because almost every country defines that differently.
"This road".😂
You may be allowed to drive as fast as you want / can, but not as crazy as you want
12:38 I get the instinct to punish, but that is why we have laws.
Think about it, this guy was a testdriver.
His carrer is over, even if he gets his license back.
Nobody will hire him.
Also if this guy isn´t a 100% psycho, he will bear this guilt for the rest of his life.
also we have additional rules. you have to be able to fully stop your car in half radius of a curve. you have to keep distance of the half of your speedometer. and so on. and we have the TÜV what makes our cars safe for speed. and dont forget our License. hard work to get it.
The majority of drivers do not exceed 130kph on the Autobahn - wherever that is even possible. Traffic is so dense these days that even that speed is unlikely.
IF speed limits... Make it a 180, a 160kph. We have enough 120kph areas.
Our driving licence is hard to get, and expensive. We have to learn A LOT to pass it.
But there are allways morons, who learned and passed, but dont 'think' when driving.
Hi,this Guy at min. 6.20 is an asshole,by law,You are not allowed to overtake on the right side ,the same left ,right ,left, right. If they catch you, you loose your Driver licence for min. 2 or three month. Dont do that.greetings from Germany.
to drive as fast as you want does not mean to drive as crazy as you want! there are so many traffic rules in germany! for example, overtaking on the right is strictly forbidden. the reasons we dont have a speed limit on some (few!!!) roads are: 1. there are so many rules around this whole situation that its possible to be safe and fast at the same time and 2. imho we have the best driving education in the world. these points just make a speed limit not necessary on some km of the autobahn.
Maybe to calrify as a german. We do have roads where you can just blow out. BUT you still have to stick to some rules to drive that fast. Always keep to the right and overtake only on the left side with at least 130 kmh if you dont want to go fast. Thats the "Richtgeschwindigkeit" (Target speed) on "open" roads on the autobahn. If you overtake slower it gets way more dangerous for upcoming traffic on the speed lane.
And also, if you crash into overtaking traffic by going just nuts, it's probably your fault. Just like on skis. The guy coming from the back is in the wrong. So for insurance stuff, it is always "your fault" by going more then the 130 kmh.
I would say, if you want to go fast in Germany, do it at least by night. Less traffic, less danger....simple race track rules if you want 😀
Speed is the best drug 😂
