I have a 2013 Genesis which has had this same issue for years. The 2013 trunk pan and battery connections are identical to the 2015 so everything in your video is identical to my own setup. I've pulled the battery, replaced it with a better battery and reconnected it several times and occasionally I've been able to start it. I've also had my car intermittently reset between uses (transmission forgets when to shift, engine runs like I'd just pulled the battery and itt's re-learning it's idle and the infotainment setup all reboots, etc) I've never even considered it was the massive pile of crap hanging off the positive post. It's currently -40C here and the car is parked for the winter while the old Accent is on active duty but I'll be trying the post shims right away as everything you showed is exactly the issue I've been running into. Thanks for making a concise and clear video, not something typical on TH-cam.
So sorry you are going through all of that, I truly hope you get your car back on the road. It is so fun to drive. Thank you also for the warm remarks! Very encouraging and means a lot!
@tekkenkun I had no idea about this. Even though it rarely snows where I live, I am going to see if I have this option. The car is fun to drive when it starts lol. Mine is AWD.
I was having the same troubles. I replaced my battery at Orileys. They installed it. Driving home from work the entire car shut down. I honestly though i popped a tire. Called my wife used jumper cables to get the trunk open. (Yes u can apply jumper cables under the hood). Accessed the battery. I realized then the cable clamps were not all the way down on the post. Loosened the clamps persuaded the clamps to go down and made a much better fit. Literally solved all my electrical issues.
I have a 2018 G80 for a year now and I am in Maryland. When it’s really cold it won’t start up right away. Thought I ahead the problem fixed but it’s back again so l looked it up on Goggle because the dealerships don’t know anything. I believe my problem is the cold charging amps isn’t enough to start my car in extreme cold weather. The article says there are two types of amps for a battery regular charging amps and cold charging amps. I am going to have my car checked out on Monday by the dealership and check my battery for the amps. Probably need a stronger battery. Other than that my baby is a monster!!! I love my car!
Great job bro, no issues yet on my 2015 Genny yet. Right now at 82K probably need to get ready to replace my battery. They are so expensive but what can you do!
@@tekkenkun That's crazy. I've seen a lot of high mileage G80s for sale, it always leaves me wondering what kind of work people do driving that many miles, I know there's some jobs that require it but it's always interesting to know. @@blunion05 oh yes. They are beaten and abused no. Kind of like the Infiniti G35 and 37. Will be hard to find one in good shape unless you by from the original owner.
I just had this issue today on my 2015 Genesis 5.0, It was clicking, the dash lights were going crazy, that clock kept spinning and the AC started blowing, I've only had the car 10 days 😡🤬 w it just turning 100k miles. I had it jumped and it started right up fortunately! So I'm hoping its the battery or a lose connection as you showed in the video. 🤞🏾
@@tekkenkun I went to the dealer and the problem was the battery, They said it had a 4% charge and it was the original battery that came with the car, So they put a new one in free of charge🙂 All is well!
My car wouldn't start today, I'm very happy I saw this video so I didn't end up paying a tow truck and a mechanic just to tell me my terminals were loose 🙃
Been having this problem for a couple of months. Tightened the battery in spots, particularly at the positive terminal with a monthlong success, but the problem returned. I will be installing the battery shims today and am curious if this resulted in a long term fix?
I am having this issue as well..but also my instrument panel in the center console, the radio/navigation screen and the cruise control all do not work. The dealership told me it could be because that positive cable they said the car isn’t getting enough voltage to power everything does anyone have that issue?
@@godwins3395I didn’t have that particular issue. The car just wouldn’t start. I performed the fix this gentleman filmed and didn’t have any issues since. Wouldn’t hurt to perform the same fix it, as the battery shims only cost like $7.
For starters you had the wrong brand of battery on your Gen JW By the way is it a 5.0 or a 3.8?? Duralast and Diehard H9 works wonders on both my two 15 Gens
I am facing the similar issue but some times car doesn’t open with the remote and when i opened with the key all was good. I haven’t checked yet probably this could be the reason.
Has the click issue come back at all for you since this video James??? I've got a OEM battery with 75k on it, I only drive 1-2 times a week or less.... and the battery seemed dead. I wonder if it's a loose "electric box".... Might invest in some shims and see if that helps (I've also trickle charged it to full and it turns over fine for now)
Checked the electric box and it's solid (no movement) so I'm guessing the battery is just losing charge towards the end of its life. I'll trickle charge it from now on to top it off and save myself the $250 to replace it lol. I have a Hulkman Jump Starter too just in case.
I just ran into this problem with my 2015 G80 and it is in high mileage having the same issues. I ended up buying the Shims the only problem is the Positive side won’t completely go down with shim on. It is on and secured but not completely through the terminal. Is it okay if it isn’t completely pushed down?
Hey, thanks for commenting. It may or may not be perfect but as long as you are making enough of a connection using the shims, you should be good to go. I would just check it to see if any vibration has caused it to come loose if that’s the case, you may need different shims. Different may use different thickness of material and construction. Hope this helps!
Guys I had the same issue with my 2009 3.8 sedan...I was just about to get rid of the car when I figured out the whole Positive connection to battery is absolute crap. Here is the simple solution. 1: unbolt the plastic + terminal and the stud bolted to the car body. 2: Purchase a 1 ft long batter cable from the Auto Store. 3: Bolt the terminal of the new cable onto battery just as you would any car. 4: take the 1/4" terminal on the other side of the new cable and bolt it to the nut/bolt on the OLD crap cable - the part that USED to go the the + battery terminal. Take that old nut off, and bolt the cable to that bolt stud. YOu may have to bend that end of the cable to fit - you can also trim some plastic out of the way. 5: Now take a small piece of cardboard or styrafoam, whatever to insulate the battery terminal from the old connection housing. 6: Bolt the Old housing to the body. 6: Now you have a car that runs! IN other words you are installing a bypass cable. The old fashioned die cast terminals and cable are 1000% better than that contraption they over-engineered horribly.
This made me feel better my 2015 3.8 has 160,000 miles no issues at all until now it’s Clicking not starting and over the weekend did the same thing i was able to jump it and got it going for a few days since I would go out and start it everyday, I let it sit yesterday today being Thursday and it’s clicking again after sitting for only a day! I’m not sure what it could be the battery isn’t old maybe 1 or 2 years.
So you meeaannn to tell me I bought a new part (positive terminal) and don’t even need it?!! I’m having this same exact issue and also my right rear light (inner part) is out but when I open the trunk it turns on🤔
