You have to change syncros and gear sets etc...I have built a few for friends and there's a reason why everyone uses the ppg after 600hp because it's stronger. But even that trans will not enjoy life after 950hp. I like the car i dont like people saying the car is something its not. This car is not running a stock trans I would bet my life on it.

To those hating on the trap speed; stock transmission, gearing is not special for drag racing. They are using 4 gears, and look how short 1st is, plus keeping the boost up between these gears is difficult with a manual. Usually why autos are faster in drag racing. Not hating on manuals, I drive 2 (wrx and s4), but numbers don't lie. 2 very cool cars, really love the new sti, my wife has a '19. The drivers are clearly learning how to drive these cars, its a delicate balance of launching fast and breaking stuff and traction (even with awd). You can see how those cars dance further down track, at well over 100 mph, so it's big time pucker for the drivers, and they stay full throttle. 60 foot times would be the next number to chip away at. Overall very impressive builds!
9.3 sec @ 158 mph is good run. But, if that car have 1000+ whp, like it's written in the description, it would be run between 165-168 mph. It's a nice setup, but this car don't have 1000+whp.
It blows my mind that with all he listed to allow this to still be AWD (stage 5 axles, carbon fiber draft shaft, etc), and he STILL can't launch it flat out on the strip it seems. People say, "Why aren't there more built AWD subies?" because AWD gripping at the strip is gnarly!
I have had my WRX for the past 10 years and now to finally be at a little over 400 Whp I'm done throwing money at it and I'm not even 100% happy. I can only imagine the thousands and thousands put into these cars to get the numbers they got. All I wanted was at least 500 Hp but at this point I am literally exhausted, done with the struggle. I have always loved Subaru but to get large amounts of power out of them just isn't worth it cost and time wise for me anymore when there are cheaper alternatives. At this point the car is now sitting and I am thinking of selling it. In the mean time I have gotten back into Honda's and have started a turbo K/ AWD build which should hopefully be allot more fun and definitely cheaper.
I've heard very similar stories from several people. EJs don't make big power as cost effectively as other platforms for sure. Your build sounds sick though!

Nowhere near 1000hp!! I know of a subaru running 7s and also can go round a circuit track too! It has 1000hp, maybe slightly over 1k HP! This around 700hp for 9s.
I am not much of a Subaru guy, I now own a 88 Subaru Justy 4wd (not AWD. But a push button 4wd) and to the point, I want this guys set up in my Lil Subaru would run from the competitors. Oh and I actually like my 88 Justy 4wd.

I like how tech described the transmission part. "We're are not running a stock transmission. Stock transmission, iag billet output shaft." The not stock transmission is more than likely a PPG Gear set. That's how they get 160 in 4th gear.
Subaru is excellent but its problem with high spare parts and its biggest problem is the difficulty of disassembling a very complex car and little of it works because it failed
@Clive Wilson A stock, full weight STI weighs 2900lbs-3200lbs. This Subi is completely stripped down, even has Kirkey seats, so I'd estimate 2700~lbs. Its around the same weight as the Wild Street class Civics. Hub City Performances' blue street car weighs 2650lbs and made 900whp when they ran the 8.7 @168. Can't use weight as an excuse in this case.

It's impressive but if you put money into any decent chassis you can get good drag times. The motor is so far from stock it's basically just a built from scratch car with AWD. Why not just make the body out of fiberglass next?

The car had a best trap speed of 158mph

I have to shift into 5th with my stock 6 speed to trap 112mph, what gear ratio are they running to trap almost 160mph in 4th?
