Totally agree. My next planned treatment is September 22. Then Oct, Nov. Then December starts my indicating treatments. Until I have a zero drop on the boards.
The black flacks are wax moth larva poop. I wouldn't worry about it.. bees catch them when they grow bigger. That one looks like a wax moth larva bees thrown out. I can see a couple, 3,4 varroas on those boards. There could be 70% or more in the capped brood right now. They too have a cycle like bees and can enter 2-3 in one cell this time of year. But it doesn't look like you have a problem.
Thank you so much for the identification of the wax moth fesces. I truly was totally guessing. Same with the larvae. I'm kinda surprised about any moths being able to be in the hives at all. They are all so strong right now. But now you have me thinking the wax moths are kinda like the mites. You can always count on having them, just the bees are doing what they do with them too. Yea this way of treating the mites I do is I OAV them once a month in the fall, then when December hits I will treat them at least weekly until I get zero mites on a bottom board. Then I'm done with all treatments till next fall. My hives go near broodless around the winter solstice so it works out very well.
That's really good! Were your hives mostly broodless when you treated? I noticed a lot of my Russians totally shut down laying about the beginning of august - it was to the point I was seriously concerned about 5 or 6 of them thinking I had queen failure issues. But all but 1 recently started back up again & are back to laying up solid sheets. When they went broodless they also seemed to get really OCD about ridding any and all invaders from the hive - mites, beetles, etc.
I've only been into 2 hives and that was to harvest honey. I checked the brood chambers, Freshened up marks on the queens and each hive had 4-5 frames of brood. neither hive was Russian and I can't forsee getting into the Russian hives the rest of this year except to resize their hives for winter. Which will probably be in October sometime.
I had another really good honey harvest out of hive #2. The boxes weigh 200 lbs. so I'm going to say I have another 150 lb. hive. I need to get it spun out before I pull another hive. :)
U have mites keep treating
