The Traverse's with the OEM hitch have a bigger intercooler for the transmission to get the 5k lb rating. If you install an aftermarket on one without a hitch it likely has a smaller intercooler and only rated for 1.2k lbs. You need to swap for the bigger one to get the full tow capacity. The drive selector is different too. OEM has the extra tow mode where other doesnt. Can get by just towing in 4WD mode though.
Thanks for the information! In many instances it's extremely difficult to determine how a vehicle's tow package achieves a higher towing capacity. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/CURT/CU29FR.html
Wow! I installed a Class 3 hitch on my 2016 Traverse a few years ago. No bumper removal ect… Took 15 mins I bought a 2023. The hitch install definitely a lot more work.
That's the truth! Back in '16 most of the hitches hung below the rear bumper, and were fully visible. Now, most folks want something less visible that doesn't detract from the aesthetics of the vehicle. This is why most hitches for newer vehicles are designed so that the crossbar sits behind the bumper fascia with only the receiver tube and safety chain loops being visible. Do they look better? You betchya! Are they easier to install? Not so much.... Hope that helps explain! www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/CURT/CU29FR.html

I have 2022 lt awd .if I add hitch and wiring harness what will my towing capacity be?
@timnouwels7989 I read somewhere it's only 1200lbs without the bigger intercooler to keep the transmission from overheating.
any info on that intercooler@@Young_Star
