In other words, Nightwing understands people better than Batman. Couple this with the fact that Batman has succesfully saved multiple people, including children and is used to only really being feared by criminals it makes sense why he wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that he was the problem in this situation and for Nightwing to see the issue of Batman being scary since he has most likely been in the same situation as the scared superboy. I don't know what set you off and started attacking someone for liking this moment and characterisation but I also loved it. Especially since I see far too often Batman being written as superior to his proteges in oretty much ever situation when I think it would be far more interesting if we get so see their individual strenghts shine.

I wish they had like a mini series where young john just tagged along with Nightwing. Would have been cool to see more comic relief from other stuff Bruce does around the Batcave or on the field than the ultimate contingency of vengeance and edginess. I will never get used to the fact that people just casually dodge the heat vision considering they would have to be going at the speed of light and maybe even faster to dodge them.
Heat vision is extremely inconsistent. If you want to apply logic to it though, we can analyze it a bit. It has push to it, so we know it's not a laser, and despite what some people like to say, it sure as hell isn't heat. It's properies point to it being a plasma of some sort, or a particle beam of some sort. Either way, it most definetly does not move at light speed which we can easily know from watching it in action. But, even if we where to entertain the idea that it did, ir could be dodged by calculating where the beam would hit based on where the eyes of the user are pointed before the blast is ever even shot. It's the same way people in real life can "dodge bullets". You simply predict where its going to hir before it does.

The hell....oh god. Its a Bat-shaped lolipop! Its DARK LICORICE FLAVORED???? John shoots Batman. No child should suffer the flavor of a dark licorice flavored candy.
Man that reminds me of that scene in Justice League New Frontier explaining in universe Batman changed costumes to not scare children and innocent people.
