What are Japanese peoples' opinions on smoking? I usually just smoke wherever I am, even if it's not near or at a designated smoking area. Just as long as it's a place where I shouldn't / it's not allowed, like a playground, unless it's completely deserted.
They'll give you a dirty look if you're smoking on the road but if you're not surrounded by many people you won't be in a trouble in Tokyo
Sorta creepy that as an adult you would choose a kids playground to light up don't ya think? 🤔 Kinda screams pedo. But hey, you do you 🚬😂
During my time in Japan, I noticed it depends on region. In Tokyo and Kyoto, smoking in public is pretty regulated, and is generally frowned upon unless within a designated smoking area, which can be found either very commonly or not at all 😂 Of course, people don't always follow that social norm, but I noticed more people following it than not. Some areas of Tokyo and Kyoto have laws in place to prevent smoking outside of designated areas as well.
However, when I visited Osaka, less people cared in general, which was interesting. Many public parks had tins lined up next to benches and on walls as ashtrays, and they were very heavily used. These were tins placed by the public, not by the city of course. Smoking on the street and while walking was also much more prevelant in Osaka than anywhere else I visited.
There are certainly a lot of intricacies to smoking etiquette in Japan, so I might have to make a video on it in the future !
I'm sure somebody from Japan might have a better answer than me, but I hope this could help!

@@jacobfuckingjones Japan love to smoke. I saw vending machines with cute little artworks and text such as 'enjoy and relax with your cigarette' and 'when done, please deposit butt in ash stray'. You can also light up at the izakaya whilst you are eating and drinking with locals. It is so free and acceptable there.

I didn't realize how popular Heat-Not-Burn devices are in Japan until I got there! It was a lil bit of culture shock ngl 😂 I'm so used to seeing vaping if somebody isn't smoking a cig. Looking forward to publishing videos on Iqos and other devices in the future, but (spoiler alert), they can't replace my ciggies, no way

@@jacobfuckingjones I bought an Iqos to use in Japan while I was over there recently and they're a decent alternative. However they don't have the taste nor the satisfaction of burnt tobacco in my opinion. I'm also in Canada though, and here you can't get em' flavored even with tobacco flavorings.

it's a columbia fleece i stole from my dad a couple years after he got it on sale, but i don't know the product number sadly. the tag has long been gone. but, it's essentially a north face fleece ripoff with a wind proof layer on the inside 😂 hope this could help even jus a lil bit !
