You know what I love about Bob the most? He never discounts anything. You have a RV? Great, live in it. You have a car? Great, live in it. You have a tent, YES!! Do it. I've watched so many videos and every one of them always has these dire warnings. Don't do this, don't do that. If you're not this...you can't do this. Bob never says that. He offers things that will help, offers advice, but in the end, he's optimistic about everything. I love that if I come out there and I'm living on my bicycle, Bob is going to be like "This is great!!" He proves time and time again, you don't need to be rich, you don't need fancy stuff and you certainly don't need a 60K RV to enjoy life. Keep them coming, Bob.

I lived on the Quechan Indian Res for ten years, year around in an old travel trailer. During the hot months I swam in the All American Canal twice, sometimes three times a day, it wasn't legal, but there were ways to do it with out getting caught. Oh, and the name of the Casino was the Paradise Casino. I used to eat their breakfast buffet several times a month. The camping fee during the time I was living there was $36 for three months. From the video it sounds like it might be less now-$86 for a whole year. If you're into being a recluse like I was, camping there is a great way to go. I called my campsite Palo Verde Camp, sure do miss it.

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this man. He is so optimistic and positive. This has quickly become one of my top three favorite channels.
Americans do pick crops when they have the opportunity. My mother and I both worked in an apple orchard picking apples - and she had a back problem and other issues. And it was no less back breaking than any other kind of harvesting.My siblings and I also detasseled corn and walked beans. Americans - at least rural Americans, will take whatever work they are given. And sometimes they will do it for free even if they are having problems themselves - such as scooping snow for elderly people who can't do it for themselves.

2020 Update: We called and inquired with the tribe about this and we were quoted different prices each time we called (We called twice.) and it was closer to 100 than 86 both times but what was the same was that we were told permits were now good for 3 months. Perhaps as they become familiar with some Nomads who return regularly they may offer better deals. I just thought I'd pass on the updated information we were given.

Four years later I find this gem of a video. Thank you, Bob! I will soon be living in my van and traveling throughout the lower 48, Canada and Alaska. I love finding and seeing the places where dispersed camping is allowed. I'll camp at a KOA, state park campgrounds and other places that charge fees but only while in route to a designated area.
Yuma produces more food per acre than anywhere in the USA. Their fields produce several crops a year. Its crazy how much lettuce comes out of Yuma.

I'm in Australia. I live in a little townhouse with hubby and 3 doggies. I love to watch your videos. They light a fire in me that I didn't know existed. This would be a fabulous way to holiday in the USA, possibly stealthily, if you can support the investment of a stealth camper (buying it, using it and then selling it). I would love to stay a couple of weeks, as part of a couple of months in the USA. Oh, and maybe get some dental work done too, if needed. 😁 Keep the videos coming. Loving them as a little escape from life.

Thanks for the tip Bob. I stayed in the truck lot at the Quechan casino for a few weeks. They did not charge and some had been in the same spot for months. It is well lit and security comes through every so often. I think the small fee to be out on open land would be worth it honestly and you are still close to the casino, the border and a quick drive to town for whatever you need.

So appreciative of you sharing. What a fortunate spot close to so many resources and adding the birds is so wonderful. Do you know if they are spraying the crops with any pesticides? That is one thing I wouldn't feel comfortable with or feel would be good for the health of the fish, folks etc. Great video once again:)
I grew up in the Imperial Valley and worked in the cropdusting industry. Its one of the few places in the world they spray year round.

I use to live in ca but have been living in South Florida for the past 25 year. I've been to death valley many times on 120 degree days and let me tell u, even a 90 degree day in Florida, is dramatically hotter than death valley on it's hottest day. Humidity makes the night and day difference.

Great! My father was 1/4 Cherokee and my mom 1/4 Chocktaw. My little brother was born on Indian land. The first black child born on the rez next to Cottonwood Idaho. He was a premie at 12lbs at birth also. He grew to 6'8 till he passed from Cancer in 04.
That truck looked like that other u-tuber Rusty's truck. He is from Texas and was at the RTR last January.

Bob, I lived in the northern desert of Arizona (between Kingman and Flagstaff). We used to go to Yuma once a month so we could cross the border into Los Algodones and pick up medications for about 1/4 of what we paid for them in the states. I love that little town. If I'm ever blessed enough to make it back out there I hope to run into you
This could be a gold mine for truckers with all the cross border loads out of there. Since I’ve been on this channel I’ve found that I’ve been past all these places a hundred times and never thought about these topics.

I have only just come across this video, but enjoy it more than I can ever express. As soon as I can get social security to come through, I plan on getting a van to convert into a camper van and hit the road to work on my bucket list. I plan on doing it for at least 6 months to a year. If I like it, I plan on continuing the adventure. If I don't like it, I plan on finding a small piece of land and creating a completely off grid tiny house homestead. Once that is done, I plan on doing that indefinitely. If it doesn't work out, I will sell it and find a tiny house somewhere. Either way, I have plans for my future.

I'm a Naturopath in Australia and I recommend garlic for lowering blood pressure. Six cloves a day for six weeks to bring it below normal. Take care not becomes too low. Dizziness is a sign it is too low.

That place has changed so much since I used to camp there. I guess you could call it camping, we lived in a cave there in 1972-73 which is now long gone.

Talked to Gordon Osborne, Tribal fish & game and the dispersed camping rent is now $110 for 3 months. They have shorter times and prices but that is the long term rate now.
thanks, Bob, for an informative video for those looking for an alternative, nomadic lifestyle. You can't find rent THAT low anywhere in the U.S. .. of course, you can't expect much in return either . However, you have proven that a person CAN make it work. Unfortunately, some people lose site of what your channel is all about, and instead use it as a soap box to climb upon to spout their own agendas from. Sad that some of us folks, who are SERIOUSLY choosing the nomadic lifestyle (in order to get away from the 'noise' , bickering & who's right/who's wrong).. In Germany your rent stays the same the entire time you live in a place. The rent only gets increased when you move out or die. To bad we have to make laws in the USA for people not to gouge everyone. 60k homeless in New York City alone.
Very glad you mentioned fishing. I have been curious as to how easy it is to get fishing licenses on the road. I like the idea of supplimenting meals with fresh fish.
Rent in Western North Dakota was just $560 a month from 2006 to 2010. There houses are also cheap you get over 1 acre of property and a 3 bedroom for between $100k to $150k. Greed happens in most states, and some states put quality of life over making a buttload of cash for property owners who rent out their homes.
Autumnskyes That canal has catfish and bass. Very clean water, can't swin or boat so the fish are good eating. And there are some big fish in there too. My brother has spent a few winters there. I think the fishing license is $10 extra.
@@cuddles6938 But rent control means the landlords have no incentive to make improvements. Where there is rent control, there are slums. The landlords only have the incentive to sell the building in order to turn a profit. This is not capitalism. Let the free market set the price. That way, everyone wins. If you are priced out of an apartment, you move to where you can live more cheaply.
Funny! That's me at time 7:19 through 7:26 - white class A with Suzuki parked along side! That's a nice area but they do charge to stay there - not consistently, but there is a charge. When they came a knocking - I simply moved to the casino parking area - which remains free. Smile :) & Be BRAVE!

I live in Yuma almost 3 years and do get tired of the sunshine here. I lived 63 years in California (southern mostly) and lots of sunshine, but not quite so hot and still get lots of rain (even though some people think it never rains in California). I heard Yuma is one of hottest cities in U.S., but I think Phoenix beats Yuma for heat. Today it was 116 degrees. Been meaning to go to the Q casino. Thanks for this video--very interesting and informative.

Florida is called the "Sunshine State" because of the "dry season" that affects mainly the southern half of Florida. S.W. Florida (Ft. Myers area) has the largest extreme between its wet and dry seasons you'll find anywhere. From November to May it is sunny, dry, and even low humidity almost every day. It rarely rains during these months. The "Snow Birds" come down to enjoy the warm sunny weather during the cooler months of the year. Then from June to October southern Florida switches over to the rainy season. Fort Myers, for example averages over 10" of rain in June and over 50" of rain annually, with most of it falling during the Summer season. This also coincides with Hurricane Season (June - Nov). But November is usually a sunny and dry month that starts off the "dry season" again. Then for the next 7 months it's very sunny and dry again. S. Florida is also the warmest place in the U.S. during the Winter. It's much warmer than the desert southwest, where it can get quite cold at times during the Winter (even a rare snowfall can be seen in the desert S.W. during the Winter. But the desert southwest is much hotter and drier during the Summer than south Florida. While its extremely hot in the southwest U.S. during the Summer, Florida is very humid with lots of thunderstorms. It rains (thunderstorms) almost every day across southern Florida during the Summer. It doesn't rain all day, but a strong thunderstorm can be expected pretty much every afternoon. The rest of the day is sunny, hot, and very humid.

All these at low price. Or the Mexicans south of the border. Money for them, comfort for RV dwellers. Great to know about the buffet!
They don’t want those things. Don’t want to contend with extra work. They had one by the border and closed it. They do like the snow birds.

Used to be an otr produce trucker, I certainly miss the desert South West! I started staying in my 02'dakota with a topper on the back in South Bend, In. for the savings, upgraded the topper to a light, but badly abused truck camper, .$250.. LoL. Boondocking is a good life. Thankyou for the videos and sharing your working knowledge. The Hoosier will have to do for now, but as soon as my son finishes school, we will be out there! Thanks again!

Great video series! You can also camp at the indian casino by the territorial prison and colorado river, it's free to camp in an RV or van, I don't think a tent would be a good idea, but you can be in downtown Yuma in about five minutes from the camp area (plowed dirt rows just past the paved parking lot.

I totally get dispersed free camping and I love it but I also love to stay in state or national parks occasionally (shower, laundry etc.) and in all my years I've never had a host 'breathe down my neck' as you say. It's usually pretty chill really. But I get what you mean.

Jan 17 2019.. I am camped about 150 feet south of the All American Canal and about 1000 feet west of Calif SR 186. Cost to camp on Quechan land just south of casino. Ranger came by an hour ago. $10 for a day. $40 for 2 weeks. $110 for 90 days. no year long rate option was offered. Asked about the $86 a year camping and Ranger said never heard of it.. except from people saying they saw it on the internet.

I grew up in the Imperial Valley. I am used to the heat. California side of So Cal. 60 miles from Yuma. Lots of snow birds from Canada. Nice cat fish and stripped bass in the all American canal. Live in San Diego now and don't want to go back. Love the beach. Good hunting in both Yuma and Imperial Valley. Dove, quail, and pheasant.
As a younger person, who would like to snowbird, are there cheap places I can buy a small piece of land or rent. Like Like a mobile home or tiny house community? Near a beach ideally
Very cool! And yes, I agree -- we do need the workers coming over from Mexico-- most from the US couldn't endure the heat and conditions doing the farming. And kudos to the Quechan Nation for their hospitality and sharing of their beautiful land.
They'd do it if employers were willing to pay a decent wage but they get undercut by illegals. Shame on the employers.

im going through a divorce and once it's final im thinking of buying a used RV and living the land for a while. im so tired of working everyday just to pay rent and bills. knowing where your money is going every week sucks especially paycheck to paycheck

I believe you can cook an entire meal.
That explains why in '17 June (115 deg.) I had to clean my windscreen one strip at a time or the water would evaporate before I could squeegee it. I've never seen temps that high, anywhere on Earth.
You do know the more people who start living on the road, the more government will be looking at them as a stream of revenue. I can foresee more taxes, more regulations, and more government interference.
