Some leagues operate on a fair minutes style of play where you have to sub different 5 players on and off after a quarter has ended.
I understand it but I personally don't like it because it's not fair to players who work hard and come to practice vs those that don't.

I agree with this but here’s also the thing…..
Coaches usually don’t care about developing their players or care about how much they try or even how they act as a person. Youth coaches for the most part are parents or other adults who only care about winning.
These type of coaches will play 5-7 during a game(usually there’s a starting 5 and 0-2 players who come in to give breathers).
They also usually run a full court zone defense and run set offensive plays. Which does not develop talent but is designed to put players in certain JOBS and improves the chance of winning. Putting players into these set plays or zone defense(those are jobs) doesn’t allow these players to expand their game to other aspects. Let these kids play and develop their craftsmanship for the game and not put them into these jobs.
But in the process these coaches are not letting them develop on ball defense, passing, dribbling, screens, rebounding, boxing out, spacing, etc.
My league does not force equal minutes but I’m by far the most equal with minutes than all of the other schools. I could care less how talented the player is on my team. You show me you want it and that you are willing to put in the work, you will be starting on my team.
Because these are the players that will take the game seriously and most likely still play in High School and possibly even higher. Also it encourages others to put the work in. I’ve witnessed many players completely change their selfish/lack of effort play into some of the best team first/hustle players I’ve seen

@@zDuKeMaNz I love this philosophy of youth basketball coaching. Ill be coaching for the first starting in July and this is the kind of approach that I want to take. I'm coaching 8-9 year olds and I've heard it can get pretty competitive but I just want to make sure that all my players genuinely feel like they're a part of the team. My goal is for them all to grow and develop as players and people.

Basketball is an unfair sport in terms of playing time and touches. In these aspects baseball is much better

explain... imo its 100% fair, the more work you put in on training and practice the more game time you get. In fact thats the same in every sport... in Baseball you play catcher, but want to be a pitcher. Can you be a pitcher without any training on how to throw the ball like a curve ball etc?
