I just gained a new respect for BJJ, extremely technical. there’s a gym 5 mins from me I’m 100% starting
martial arts are top tier
I’ve been training for 6x/week for 2 years.
It is a lot of fun.
Helped me lose 15kg.
Like wise, fell out of fitness during covid/after covid. BJJ and Thai Boxing for 2024 is the plan!
@@ItsMarkAnthony
I’m currently doing mma and Thai boxing.
But bjj is a lot of fun.
I like training without a gi more.
Say goodbye to your joints
The skill difference between a trained and untrained person is astonishing
Ok
Fairly obvious to be fair. When we have new white belts join our dojo it's pretty easy to see. Technique is always key. Strength and weight has their own benefits and weaknesses.
all things equal you'd wanna be the stronger (per pound) but yes skill is ofc an important component
and 100 more obvious statements
@@elcapitan6126 you can think of it this way as well: given that the strength is equal, you'd want to be the more skilled person :)
Thanks for trusting me with your life
Did you sniff his biffin bridge?
Watched this right before training tonight, and liked the look of the knee on belly arm bar as I’ve not seen it before ( white belt here ) tried it rolling and got the tap. Shall be using that in the future ! ❤
@@joshwaa8500
We call that armbar position “giving them a pillow”.
It is really nice.
You can great armbars from so many different positions.
Been training for 2y at 6x/week.
That was actually a sick armbar set-up, I don't think I've seen that one before when you're putting your leg behind his head first.
This is why I love Jiu-Jitsu. You see the beauty of handling a bigger guy who is a bodybuilder like Mike, and he is getting tired while James is relaxed. You see any white belt can defeat 99% of anyone who doesn't train Jiu-Jitsu. Great work Mike! If you implement Jiu-Jitsu to bodybuilding you would be a beast mate! Oss 🤙🏾
Blue belt, not necessarily white
White for sure. 6 months regular training you'll beat pretty much anyone who isn't trained in any martial art or self defense. Period. You can test this so easily - anyone new off the street gets destroyed by a WB with even just 3+ months regular training.@@justinhearst
James is nearly the same weight as Mike.
@@justinhearst what about blue belt?
@Charlie-JitsuBjj I'm talking abut your comment "any white belt can defeat 99% of anyone who doesn't train jiu-jitsu". I was just stating that it'd be more accurate if you said blue belt instead if white belt. But it's whatever
I love how you showed Mike some pretty advanced entries on the arm bars and triangle after seeing him struggle to perform the RNC grip haha. Cool to see the sport get this sort of exposure! JJ is the most addictive I have ever done and my only regret is not doing it earlier in life
James is a great teacher, i can see a lot of his motivations for starting BJJ in myself. Nobody wants to be confronted with the realization that they are powerless. Great video guys!
Im just like a month and a half into bjj training and its so cool to watch this and realize how much I've really learned already.
Like any subject, the more you learn the less you know.
Do more of this Mike, would be sick to see you become a beast on the mats
man when big guys become technical it gets scary
Why,,views are apparently lower than usual videos!!!!
He don't know you like that lil bro
@@willj8814that’s exactly why this is the path
It's impossible to know how truly helpless you are against a trained grappler until you try it. Once you try BJJ and realise there is a super power you can develop, the ability to control a bigger opponent without hurting them, you'll never stop training.
That looks really hard, fair play for giving it a go never seen it from a being trained POV, shows how technical it is.
Really enjoyed this video. So interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Fire video guys 🔥 learnt so much!!! Thank you!! 🙌
Thanks Mike - breaking out of comfort zones again on 🎥
And Thank you Mike's team for not editing/cutting this down
Enjoyed every minute
I had a blast watching the whole thing, the dynamic was super entertaining. Mike's newbie mistakes were pure comedy. James struggling with teaching the semicircle sweep was painful to watch, but other than that, he's a great bloke to learn jiu jitsu from.
Was waiting for this video for a while! Good stuff! 😁🙌🏼🥋
James doing a great job at teaching!
Amazing content Mike!
Awesome job!! Well done!
awesome video, watched it all!! Thank you for leaving ego out the door, and just enjoying the experience :)
AWESOME MIKE KEEP DOING IT
A very good introduction to jiu jitsu! Thank you.
The only thing I would change is: takedowns.
I'd use some simple trips or sweeps from judo.
Because you can't do a double or even a single leg takedown on a heavier opponent, if he resists. You risk staying under him.
This video was epic! Great job James n Mike. Made me want to start BJJ
I just love the dialogue between you two
I hope you keep it up a few days a week Mike fair play for doing it keep it up
Hell yeah, just what I wanted to see. A fitness TH-camr try martial arts, because I do fitness as well. But when I got into Jiu-jitsu. Man I learned real fast that muscles just prevented injuries. Haha, keep going Mike, cheers!
Mike there is absolutely no reason for you not to do JJ three times per week. The cardio is insane, the stretching is life changing and its alot of fun. You could just do JJ instead of normal cardio, and its a win win situation over the boring step cardio track.
Amongst all fitness youtubers, Mike is one of the best and with best diverse content.
He is definitely one of the fitness youtubers of all time
pity he's not more open about PED use and claims natural though, kinda casts a shadow over all his content

@@dp5559 Couldn't care less about his natty status, he provides us with quality content and very useful info
as a 2 stripe white belt this is awesome to watch!!!
This is a good video. Something different is always good.
Looks pretty fun actually
I love how widespread jiu jitsu is getting :)
More and more people knows about this Mexican ground karate

Hell yeah 👍
JJ é muito difícil! Precisa de anos para dominar isso um pouco. Mas te dá uma vantagem monstra num combate contra alguém cru.
Good video.
Would be interesting seeing Mike doing more BJJ stuff. Shoutout James. Guy is 100%
Mike Tries would be a good series
Had my first lesson on Friday, shi was crazy
Jiujitsu is a lot of fun! Randomly walked into a gym in 2014 and never looked back. Train more Mike! Use those muscles for collecting limbs!
Great video ! What rash guards are they ?
Twins for LIFE!
Thanks for a free Jiu Jitsu class
lets go !
Knee on belly..."i dont know the names " 😂😂😂😂
amazinnnn
This is the most overly complicated first class I’ve ever seen. 😂
What moves/sequences would you expect for a simpler first class? Rnc is deffo on the list?
It's a youtube video, trying to show Mike as much as possible within an hour. Normally you'd take 1 sub and drill it for the hour
Purple belts over complicate everything
Mikes mobility is great, looks like he would be a natural if he decided to train. Great video :).
Nope. He lost his natty card a long time now.
Thats not what beeing a natural at something means lmao @@komaddog
@@komaddog
Being a natural at a sport means he’s quick at picking up new techniques.
Mike looks like a great athlete.
Big Mike
Somebody needs to clip this with Unchained Melody over top, would give more feels than Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze I reckon 😂🔥
Great vid, as always where you both are concerned! ❤
MIKE CAN YOU START MAKING A TECHNIQUE SERIES
yo great video lets go
Mike what length do you trim your beard at? 5mm?
You did good mike. Your mobility is very good for a big dude. Will be scary to see you after training for a year. Will be dangerous
Your movement looks way more natural grappling compared to when you tried boxing with Tate. Hope you continue on your BJJ journey
Good video
BTS of the lads on the lash? Would be so funny.
Why does James sound like he's a member of the Eubank family?? Or is it just me😀
Stupendous confectionary.
Has no one clocked that he just posted a video of him hugging another man for 50 minutes
For a dude of Mike's size, he clearly has some good mobility. There was a couple of times where you can see with a bit of refining, he could pick it up pretty quick (at 31 mins when James is explaining the hip escape, he's posting well on the elbow and you can see the power coming out of the hips). For sure would be a nightmare in the gym with some proper training
Mike is all air
Having a healthy body is so impressive you can get into any tough martial art at any age
bjj is definetly by far the best choice - love and wont miss it...
love the cuddles
After seeing a bars bouncers turf 2 guys out into the street, I witnessed a nasty street fight get diffused by a guy who clearly trained in BJJ. After a few moments scuffling and a few punches thrown he safely contained the aggressive guy with a RNC until the police arrived, despite being kicked and punched by the aggressors friend. Just goes to show, all these drug & alcohol fuelled wannabe Bruce Lees out at the weekend picking fights won't know what's happened to them if you're quick enough and trained well enough. Great video guys.
Wow, that was amazing to watch! This is the kind of skill that women want. The sexiest asset a man has is the ability to take down all predators. Tate has that concept right
Funny thing is James is legit going slow and easy
HWHOWH! That was hallariahs how Mike was like 'Rrright now im feelin' dot dot dot. And Mr Instructah was all like 'Yourrr uoalwayss gonna feel like dat!' I had a chuckle. How impressive fellahs how impressive indeed! Thank God for the tan! Thank God for the silk tones! Just cause I didn't know how to follow dancersizewise. Lol. T'was a, .... Anyway, I have a question. What if the damsel we are to defend just sold my house, got rid of my car through trifle and strife, made all of my friends. Her friends. Bad mouthed me to all. Yes. All. I am an Angel just joining all earthy dwellers this century and last that is in no way inhibited on the verbs orr on eye to eye level, with tons of wit and chutzpah with a push n zeal n drive like none I know thus far. Well, except Mr Thor here and our Knowledgeable Mastah of The Jitsu of course! That remains at the hswarey of yesterdecade because it's better than this day here in my opinion please. And. So sorry please. Depleated me, JoséV. of my rights"" and life savings according to her because she's hmy hsihster"" she says as she disowns me. Must I? Must I defend her? Everyone's on her side! Been doing bjj for 14 yrs now. Never stop, never will.. Unless I get injured lol.
Can’t watch any more, too intense. I have a feeling this is the beginning of a new sport for you, Mik

@@Sbtr87man how old is that Fingggg joke!!!
Mikey T!
Awesome content absolutely love BJJ.
I could imagine rolling with you would just be a scent of cocoa butter.
I started 5 months ago for this reason :). I'm a small guy at 170lbs, but recently have been able to submit people who are 40 pounds heavier than me and have 6 inches on me. It's dope.
170 isn’t small imo but it’s still just as hard for anyone to tap someone 40lbs heavier. Nice one bro
Are these guys brothers?
James looks like zeke and Mike looks like Eren
Did you just compare them to attack on titan characters ?
I would not in any way want to try Mike!!
Bro I took my first class last week. I looked exactly like you. Its seems very complicated. 1 minute you feel like you are getting it the next minute you have no idea what you are doing.
Mike's being nice flowing, if he went 100 it would be difficult for James due to Mike's size and athleticism. Normally white belts normally go100 when they first start as they think its do or die, they get humbled very quickly😅
Mike would gas in 20 seconds if he went 100
Why nobody told him to take his socks off :D 😂
you tryin to see mens feets?
Mike u r such a fool 😅
GTA VI TRAILER is out boys!!
0:56 "The rear necked choke is going to be your best option, can you sit down for a second". Lool this is why a lot of people dont take bjj seriously. Not saying they shouldn't, but the way he introduced it.
Mike messing up every leg arm side 😅😅
Done bjj for 3 years and am in no way an expert but even the skill level between myself and someone untrained, it's like fighting a child
Mike 😂
One thing i hate is when higher belts let brand new people tap them in sparring. In drills whatever and by all means let them work but if the newbie is agreeing to spar hes not tapping me. 9/10 times when you do that they go home thinking theyre good then quit. If you want newbies to stay you should show them the skill gap. You dont even have to tap them just show u can do whatever you want and they cant stop you.
I’ll have to come back to this video when I have more time, but wanted to ask this. How is this neck hold going to stop the person from taking a sharp object _(not sure if youtube will delete my comment if I write the word kn*fe or g*n in that sentence)_ or pointed lead projecting tool from stopping the neck hold person?
You aren’t going to attempt this if they have a weapon in hand
@@badgasaurus4211 …but what if the bad person has a concealed weapon when the good person applies the neck hold? The bad person can then take out the weapon and easily jab the good person behind him…right? The bad person’s arms are absolutely free to grab whatever.
@@jbhann What if the ceiling collapses and you’re mid hold? Or someone else jumps in and kicks you in the head? You can only work with what you know in that moment. I highly doubt whomever kept their weapon stowed for the entire fight would have the mental will to be able to access and pull that weapon out once in a choke hold
God bless day one white belts. Arms flailing all over, putting their elbows over their head voluntarily. Turtles full of attack holes. BJJ is crazy. Im 6 months in and subbed a day one white belt 12 times in 6 minutes the other day.
Im like whats wrong with this picture? This mf rolling with socks on lmao.
삼촌 서스턴 귀에서 피나겄다~
❤👍❤
This wouldn't work in a street fight you will just get stabbed
I have no bjj experience, but I thought the choke was to cut off blood supply, so if done right the person should still be able to talk as it shouldn't block the airway
You have no idea how many times you end up with sore throat from chokes.
That is true, it’s actually a strangulation not a choke. You should be able to talk but when your head feels like it’s going to pop it’s not so easy
Because rear naked choke is a choke.
It will cut off blood to the brain which makes talking very difficult.
-
Other stuff like guillotine will stop the airway.
Both chokes and strangulations might result in sore throats.
-
Most people use muscle over technique which leads to long lasting injuries.
I'm just a blue belt but the way I see it, the issue is that the neck is very vulnerable and everything is all there. That is to say, a tight choke of nearly any kind will restrict breathing, blood flow to the brain and also will hurt. But most chokes/strangles lean toward one of the three, neck crank, air choke or blood choke so-called. A blood choke will still effect your voice noticeably as well as the whites of your eyes. Triangles are blood chokes typically.
@@travisfoyil4625
We usually call strangulations, like guillotine to cut off air supply.
Chokes, like triangle cut off blood to brain like you said.
-
Most people don’t have perfect technique which is fine but that is why you may feel more neck cranks.
-
A perfect arm triangle should choke not strangle you in seconds, I’m giving it 10 seconds max.
-
But perfection is only in theory, so expect a neck crank and constant adjustments.
-
I compete in no gi bjj and plan on doing B class mma in the future.
I have a thicc neck and just got cauliflower ear.
I can just not tap to most strangulations but a rear naked cuts of the blood to fast.
1:03 Why would you choke someone out simply because they were disrespectful to someone? What about a woman being disrespectful to a man? Are you gonna choke them out too?
James: u want to control the man and not hurt him
Me: learning bjj to make someone feeling as close to death as possible
