    Absolutely love the 70-200 f2.8 G2 Tamron. For someone that wants something light & doesn't have the money to get the f2.8 (and they don't do low light indoor sports) the f4 sounds like a great buy

    Ken, you recommend the Nikkor 70-210mm f4 and have reviewed this Tamron. Which has better output as far as colors, contrast, sharpness if we ignore that the Tamron has VR and focuses far faster?

    Hi Ken, I just wanted you to know that I appreciate so much all those review videos you have made on nikkor and tamron lenses. Your opinion is the only one I trust. I was looking to get a faster lens on this focal length and the f4 tamron looks like a good option. Thanks again for all the work you have done on photography over the years.

    Even though the lenses don´t compare. I own the Nikkor 80-200mm 2,8 ED, but it is so heavy that I am using it less then I should. Would I lose much image quality wise if I´ve switched to the Tamron 70-210mm f4?

      I was owned the Nikkor 80-200 f 2.8 ed and i am switched to tamron 70-210 f4. For my taste is a far far far better lens. Sharper lighter faster vc and closer focusing (90)cm I am totally happy!!!!

    When you say “travel lens”, would you apply this to like taking a day to walk around Boston for maybe a few hours, get lunch take photos etc.? A lens that can remain in your body, with a shoulder strap for a good chunk of the day? Or even with the low weight would you stick to a smaller lens? I’m considering getting this lens for almost all of my needs (landscape, walk around, travel, architecture). Thanks love the vids!!

    Did you use the Tamron 70-210mm lense to take those photos showing on your computer screen.? How come you didn't bring them up on the screen like all photographers do, so we can see what you are telling us.? It's very simple to do and only takes a couple minutes.

      No one has responded to your question. I have the Nikor 70-210 f4. I will be keeping it and not upgrading to the Tamron. I love that Nikon lens. I paid $85.00 for it a few weeks ago.

    Hi Ken
    I could not decide between the Tamron 100-400 and the Nikon 200-500 for my Costa Rica trip with my D500. I ended buying the Tamron for the smaller form factor. Took some great pictures but was not too happy with sharpness around 400mm. I have been thinking about selling this 100-400 and buying the Nikon 200-500.
    Would you think its a good move to sell the Tamron 100-400 and buy the 70-210. Then when I go to south africa in the coming months buy the Nikon 200-500 for the Wildlife? I then have the Nikon 17-55 f2.8 as well, so I should be covered for lens, right?
    thanks in advance Ken.
    Mark - The Netherlands.

    I've been trying to find a good alternative untill I can get my hands on one of the nikon 180mm lenses and came across this one. I wasnt to sure about placing the order on it untill I youtubed it and saw you did a review. So glad you approve of this lens. You make it so easy for me to decide which lenses to buy because I make sure they are of your standards before I purchase any lens. Thank you for having this channel and being 100% honest in your reviews while others are not!

    Hi Ken
    The Tamron 100-400 covers a good focal range, with decent weight and picture quality.
    Am I going to get better picture quality with the Tamron 70-210 or Tamron 70-200 G2 over the Tamron 100-400? If so would you buy the G2 or the 70-210?
    your thoughts as always appreciated.

    • @jovicanedeljkovic1885
      @jovicanedeljkovic1885 ปีที่แล้ว

      both, a lens up to 210mm f4 is not the same as a lens up to 400mm. The distance is different and the aperture of the diaphragm is different.

      @CameraMystique 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Take a couple of test shots, this lens tends to over-expose by 2/3rds of a stop. Which aggravates purple fringing. At the correct exposure it's a wonderful lens. When I mount it, I set exposure compensation to minus 0.7, but your copy may be different. Also, get the longest lens hood that this lens can take before vignetting - much sharper this way, it tends to be very sensitive to side light. Get a lens cap that will fit the end of the hood itself.
      If you use filters, avoid the Hoya on this lens (it gives it a yellowish tint). Prefer either a Zeiss T*UV (though it cuts off a bit of indigo) or a B&W or no filters.

    I bought the 70-210mm f4 Nikkor off your recommendation.. It's sharp but horrible bokeh and no VC, and the focusing is loud. But great lens, was disappointed with the fact you didn't mention a comparison, or if it would be a recommended upgrade.

      I tried both these lenses, hired the Nikon and nearly bought that one. Took a risk on Tamron when it was released with a view I could send it back, and in my opinion it’s far superior in quality. I now own this lens and love it

    • @rlores11
      @rlores11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lars Wright I own both and did a test on both using the same parameters, and found that the Tamron reveals more details in the shadows, it’s a bit brighter and the colors appear more true to reality than the Nikon. I shoot landscape so this is gonna be replacing my Nikon 70-200 f4.as far as sharpness goes, the Nikon is a tad sharper if you extreme pixel peep but not by much.

      Sam, if you want something mobile, get the 70-210 f/4 as its more ergonomic, lighter and easy to handle for day long shoots. If you shoot in a studio, the f/2.8 version is possibly your choice. f/4 will work well with the D750 (using it for 5 years) which works great in low light.

    What about the image stabilization, or VC as they call it? Their previous VC was not fluid but rather jerky, making it less than ideal for video. And one day I hope to see that Ken will overlay screenshots of test photos so we don't squint at an angled LCD screen and basically see nothing of note (hint hint please).
