I'm surprised that the video discussing how to read a book yet doesn't mention one of the most highly regarded books on the topic: *How to Read a Book* by Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren. This is a classic guide that has been instrumental for many readers.
I don't think there's a necessity of mentioning a certain book or article in a video where everything is coming out of their own mouth. It would be quite the irony to shove that "To read book - read book."
Chill bro! The points she discussed are drawn from her personal experience, which makes it more organic. They may not hold true for everyone, as may a book on "how to read a book" not hold true for anyone and everyone.
And I am not at all dismissing the value of a book like Adler and Doren's. In fact I have this book in my collection. There's also a great body of literature around this subject of "how to" in academia. Prof. Harold Bloom's "How to Read and Why" and Terry Eagleton's "How to Read Poetry" are some classics in this field.
Has this book helped you?
I am surprised that this comment discussing which book is essential doesn't mention one of the highly regarded books on the topic: How to Not be a Book Snob by Late Sir J. Snobrich. This is a classic guide that has been instrumental for many commenters.
3:42 wow great , are you from Punjab?
I born in Ludhiana and still in Ludhiana 😂
Thanks for sharing your views , but I read these lines in the book " How to read book"
About juxtaposition, yes yes can absolutely relate.
Also, please bring more of punjabi poets/writers here on the channel.
Chd represent hehe :')
The video is very helpful. Btw what happened to Vaani just curious.
When you read something for a second time, Does it feel like a new book to you?
I have the same question
No not for me bro. A few parts ofc feels alien, but mostly I remember things
No it does not but as you know it's summary you try to find deep meanings of lines you've already read
Absolutely, and it will be new as many times as you read it, provided it is a classic of a higher order. And that is what classics are, for they never tell you completely what they have to tell you actually. So, every reading is a new reader reading it, like a Herataclitus river.
Very soothing video dear...extremely serene and calm .......thanks for the upload!
Serene??
@@avinash2748 By serene I meant extremely calm and composed you are as a person...please don't take it otherwise ma'am
Can someone please translate the quote by Shiv Kumar Batalvi and Avtar Singh Sandhu
You can search Sab se khatarnak by Avtar Singh Sandhu (Pash), the hindi one is pretty easy to understand and you will get the english translation as well. Never realised it was in my school hindi book back in the times.
I know a bit but its broken, so probably someone can do a better translation of this verse from Main te mai by Shiv kumar batalvi-
Charu ji....m in love wid u😊❤
Google translate se help se Ai mai copy paste karke short mai samaj na is better way to understand something
Here's a suggestion: to make a separate video on Thomas Hardy's novels, including all his prominent poems too.
But mujhe to English aati hee nhi ha me kya karu 🥲
Hiii,
Can you please suggest some ways how we can preserve/store books without getting them damaged…
(How to prevent the pages from getting pale)
I don't like annotating, I like to keep my book clean, so I keep a diary to write down all the necessary points and highlights.
Pls fix the audio
Charu didi should only make videos on this channel from now on!! Lss go charu didi
nah this is such a perfect video
Another Advice: Challenge The Author's Perspective (when you are reading a book on socio-economic issue). This is a wonderful exercise that makes you see both sides of the coin.
I did this with "The Naxalite Movement in India" and now I am aware about how Naxalism orginated, why it got such a big support from local, how the government tackled it and even doing it now. And most important "Why Naxalism is not completely eradicated?" It's a very tiring thing to do but the way it opens your brain to various perspective is crazy.
A nice approach indeed!
I am a Charu Fan ...Period...
good to know
Stay away
@@sidkhuntia you'll tell that to how many people bro
Thank you for this video ❤... Take love, Charu!❤
How to read books or even have a passion for reading books and consuming culture at large as a second-third world citizen? Wage workers, peasants, marginalized communities, discriminated upon communities... Because they need it the most!
Niceee
good morning pineapple
Please recommend a book for a first time reader ❤
Begin with mystry books, not self-help or self-improvement.
because reading nonfiction literature is more likely to boring you than reading fiction.
My suggestion is:
The Alchemist and The Silent Patient
@@sagardudhat8263 thanks bro
"Picture Of Dorian Gray" by Oscar wilde
ਹਿੰਦੀ ਚ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ ਵੀਡੀਓਜ਼
Another great video by Charu
Hello Charu Ma'am i know you have a book embosser can you please share the name of that particular one?
Her voice has a calming, rhythmic quality, like the sound of rain on a mountain cabin.
Make a video on how to improve English like you
charu😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Please do more content in hindi language❤
Hey Charu..please make a video on how to annotate a book!!
Just listen her buddy that's real peace without any thoughts in mind 🙇🏻♂️
What the fuck are you people up to? I don't grasp.
People here are for learning "How to read a book effectively" and not because to feel climatic peace (according to you) from a random person.
@@MR_NOBODY61bhai usko agar shanti mil raha hai toh usko karne de naa aram. Kam se kam instagram ke nanga naach se dur rehkr thoda acha hi soch raha hai. Baaki jaise jisko rehna hai raho, khaali samajh ke kayde se raho.
@@MR_NOBODY61 Woah that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing lol. Why are you mad?
I know how to read a book. Yet I'm here just because I find her voice smoothing. So i think, he meant this for people like us who sometimes watch her videos (even when we do not need to) just because we like her and her content.
i'm kinda nitpicking here but why were the 2 quoted hindi poems not presented on the screen in written format like doestevesky n nietzsche ??
I'm a video editor, so from video editing perspective, It's harder to type in hindi in the video editing softwares and takes more time. Maybe that's why their editor didn't put it in hindi.
Lovee this videoo♥️
💯💯🫡
the only person who can convince me to read and appreciate books!♥️
Please try to make video in hindi language
sorry to say but your audio is very bad (video kharab resolution hi chalega but don't compromise with audio) 🤌🏻
