Your focus on the viewer really is appreciated and is clear. I think you even said you don't ever have mid-video adverts. You're not ramming Hello Fresh or AG1 down our throats and selling stuff just for your own gain.
The unexpected great thing this channel has done is bring other characters in. Like Dan at UK Bike Fit, James Saxby and Simpson, Chris the Camera guy, Lee, Liz, the cats and the many animals that appear each time.
As a viewer it makes it really engaging.
I think your honesty is also great. You speak about your weight, injuries, performances honesty. I sometimes find it hard to relate to triathlon people and sports youtubers as they all seem elite or basically semi-pro.
Keep it up!
You’re doing great Dan. I’ve been watching you for a good few years now and although sometimes it might seem like a pointless banter for 8mins to some, to those of us who are invested in the whole package….you Liz the home life and the sport ….it’s why we have stayed. I’ve said many times I don’t do triathlon but I do run- and cycle indoors - and I love your race coverage and adventures with your friends. It’s the serious part of the channel but it’s still also real. I know you won’t sell out for clicks and dollars but at the same time I want you to have all the success you can. Obviously. You’re nearly at 10k …even if it doesn’t count anymore it’s still showing growth and needs to be applauded.
Here’s to ‘25 and a non injury year 🎉
Thanks for explaining the in's and out's of this. You do so much work behind the videos it is amazing you find the time with a full time job. I am a big fan of the vlogs and event things and am glad you don't do to many product reviews for money, some lower cost things would be good but get that it might be a lot of work for low return and new viewer hits. I think like most people we enjoy Liz being on it and the banter you guys have and the iron fist she runs the house with lol
Loved that video. I need your energy. Wish I could be a bit more consistent with videos. But running a business means I can maybe do 1 per month that I’m happy with. Been watching DaaanJ too. Loving his content. Thanks for the inspiration.
It must be a serious video. The whiteboard has come out 😮 When you make videos like this, they are super helpful for small youtubers like myself.
Great insight Dan, appreciate all the work that goes into your content. Would be happy to watch a few more ads if it helps you 👍
Hi Dan. As you know I love the content you put out, both the "action" stuff and, equally, the "home life" stuff with Liz.
I would be more than happy with 3 or 4 videos a week instead of daily if it helps you to maintain the high quality content whilst still keeping a good work/ life balance.
Truthfully, I'd also be happy if your channel had ad breaks. I follow quite a few channels and yours is the only one without them. It certainly wouldn't stop me from watching 👍
I want to see the Trek progress! 😊
In a long story which I’ll share soon, it’s been at a bike shop and I pick it up this weekend, ready to be built 😬👍
@TriathlonDan nice, I'll hopefully see it at Darley Moor this year?
@ 100%! Hoping to be there in March, weather dependent! Please wait for me 🤣👍
An interesting insight into your thoughts on TH-cam. Well done so far on your following and the content you bring to us who love multisport. Like my podcast, where we speak to everyday athletes and share their journeys, it's great to see another working athletes Vlog and share and inspire their day to day lifestyle. Keep it going.
Nice video Dan. Interesting
Very interesting! What is your day job, that gives you enough time/flexibility to do all this?
The single biggest mistake made by many TH-camrs is they miscalculate time management from both the perspective of making the video and the viewers. More specifically, the videos are unnecessarily long. A good strategy is to look in every video edit and find all the key points and/or story lines (especially phrases) that are repeated. Once done, get rid of any duplicate wording or mentions. This editing and production technique is crucial to time management. Many TH-cam videos that are, say, 10 mins. in length can be edited to 6-7 mins. and accomplish more with bigger impact and less effort. Time management is why scripts come in handy. However, scripts can come off as stilted and obvious. This is why, the best vloggers can write and read scripts like it is a conversation and off the cuff. This skill helps show (not tell) the story. And, that is important, since the best video always have a start, middle and end... even free flowing vlogs. BTW, good insight and planning. I also think you do a good job of time management but everyone, including myself, can always improve and stay on top of this sort of important detail. Sometimes we can all love something so much we accidently add too much while thinking adding more will make it better.
I mucked about trying to get a channel going, and working full time it was a right ball ache... don't know how you do it!
Im only allowed to watch these because of the earthworm, cat and chicken content
I think quality over quantity. Rather than 1 video per day (as much as i enjoy it) can be abit much for a new viewer. They come for entertainment not to listen to somebody they dont know just standing and talking about something probably not interesting to them, like this video lol. Cade Media for example, every video leaves you wanting more. As i said, I enjoy your content but sometimes I watch the video and think "what was the point of this" - The filming with dan the other day for example. Pretty pointless.
Thanks very much for that - I really mean it as well. I don’t disagree fully, for me, reducing quantity doesn’t necessarily improve quality. With videos like the one you mention, I also put it together and think ‘what’s the point of this video’ but I choose to just title it accurately and put it out, I think it was ‘annoying Dan @ uk bike fit’ or something, so I’d hope even if you didn’t find it entertaining, you wouldn’t have felt misled, exactly the same as this video is. Cade Media is a great shout, as we know they’re leaders in the space, it is hard to compete when they have a team of 3 and various experience, but the structure and strategy can be translated to a channel like mine I’m sure. Thanks for watching and thanks for the input 👍👍
I'm the opposite, I prefer daily videos. My partner and I watch them every evening and really enjoy the regular uploads.
The bigger event videos and adventures are brilliant too. I loved the longest triathlon video and the drama behind that, same goes for the deca videos with James Simpson.
