      How would one use this with the jbj 65 tank? What did hang on the side or would it hang on the back? The jbj 65 has a tank in the back this is the reason for my question just to be clear

    Great addition to the BRS TV team. Ryan & Randy said you were looking for honest feedback. The only thing I would suggest is that the sound is quite echoey. What you need is a couch/sofa. 1. It will dampen the sound (every music studio has a couch for this reason). 2. You exert so much energy & enthusiasm in your videos you will probably need a place to relax afterwards. Looking forward to more reviews - keep up the good work.

    The BRS video with Ryan a few months back did a lighting test on refugiums and the main takeaway was that lighting is king. That video series saved me killing my overstocked tank. A tank I invested around £2k in as an eager noob at the time. I had and have a 200L / 45G tank, with a Fluval 407 canister setup. I bought a 10l / 2G tank off eBay and hooked up a upump with an eheim return pump. Whacked a kessil A80 on it and it sucks up nitrates like a dyson (with cheato). I run in 24 hours to out perform the display tank. The plankton might well get diced in the return pump (I can't ever see them in the display so I assume this happens), but for me the benefits outweigh. I owe this success (and massive financial saving) to Ryan's video, so my only gripe with this video is that it seems to contradict the importance of lighting in refugiums.

    This is a great product! I've been thinking of converting my 40 cube to saltwater but already have a canister, I wanted to have a sump/refugium but not super excited about having to redo my whole setup. This solves everything!
    One suggestion I have for the video is maybe add a photo of who's hosting the video in the thumbnail. Not gonna lie, I'm way more likely to watch a video if I see Thomas in the thumbnail.

    Welcome to BRSTV - I’m a fellow Canadian who does both FW and salt water and have always watched your TH-cam videos. That said, I’d like to make a small comment on my observations of this product. The concept is great. I actually have something similar and it works rather well. They should have blacked it out as said. The other thing they should incorporate into this model is a shelf box for the pump - either as part of the product itself or as an optional add on. Honestly I don’t want a bunch of crap in my DT, especially not some ugly pump. But if they could enclose the pump in black acrylic, providing the right amount of cut out for proper water circulation, then at least it could more easily blend into your (likely painted) black background. It would just clean it up a bit. They could incorporate a degree of adjustability so it can accommodate a wider range of pumps too. The only downside I can think of would be the potential of the cut outs getting clogged, but if it is easily removable, then with a vinegar bath etc., the right amount of maintenance would prevent this from happening. Just my two cents🤗🤗

    • @JustSomeGirlOnTheInternet
      @JustSomeGirlOnTheInternet 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In fact, they could just have it three sided and leave the back open and that gets rid of that issue entirely.

    I now know why he was chosen as part of the team - its a different tone to the videos vs what Ryan and Randy do. • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. Looked at these for a smaller tank I was going to setup. Can also hide the heater inside of it.
    One comment about audio quality. Your room sounds like it echos a bit. Using a lapel mic, boom mic just out of view and or some sound panels would solve the problem and bring your voice through cleanly.
    Looking forward to more videos. Thanks

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We actually used a high quality audio recorded & boom, but the room, even with its current sound insulation, is just too tinny. Two more videos will come out with that sound setup, but we switched to a label going forward and it made a big differnce. Thanks so much for the feedback!!! :D

How do you think a small would work out on a 36, 20 aio and 20 l frag tank? • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jay-Dee!
      Think of it kind of like a hang-on version of a sump, but geared towards using algae/plants as the primary form of filtration. Technically you could fill it with other equipment like a heater, and a bunch of biomedia etc as well.

    Awesome video. I like that you are highlighting items that could be used on a beginner style tank. Its hard to get a friend into the hobby when they see my tank setup that costs thousands and explain they can have just as cool of a tank with different equipment. Also, you need to work on the sound, the echo is annoying. Maybe its a better mic or more sound absorption in the room.

      And a bit of both. Got a lav and some more soundproofing up!

    Wouldn’t that bigger refugium on such a little tank be a problem , bear in mind most tanks don’t have a rim . I have Red Sea 170 and nowhere in sump to place . Would one the same size u show here be suitable to go on the side of the sump or on the sides of the Red Sea 170 display tank .

    I'm a freshwater aquarist and nee step by step direction on how to set up a 40 gallon saltwater set up. I like the idea of coral but I'd also be interested in salt water plants to soften the tanks looks if that's a thing. Video series?

    Nice video Thomas & BRS - one problem I see with it - since fuge hangs over back of tank, lighting mounts are compromised.Unless of course you hang it from ceiling etc. CPR makes excellent equipment I have 2 of their aquafuge 2 sumps

    • @ThomasBReef
      @ThomasBReef 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really good point! A lot of companies make light mounts that go from side to side now as well thankfully, but I hadn't thought of something like a standard RMS mount, Kessil arm, etc. which could be offset by the hang-on fuge. They pulled it off nicely on the 40 breeder for the 5 minute reefing guide, though!

    Idk how comfortable I’d be putting that on the back of a 20 gallon tank long term. It’s a lot of weight pulling back there. I’ve taking mine off and went with a fluval hang on the back filter. It has plenty of room for carbon , floss, and Gfo.

    I'm quite new to all of this. What is the algae at 0:36?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's Chaetomorpha algae (Chaeto for short). Chaetomorpha is a green macroalgae that under the right conditions can grow pretty rapidly, and will consume nitrates and phosphates as it grows reducing the available amount of nutrients for unwanted algae to grow.
