    ABOUT PAPADAKIS RACING:
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as backto back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club

Shocked me a bit when I learned about it a few years ago. Honda recently had an issue where, in the pursuit of energy efficiency, they ran the fuel pump at variable speeds according to flow need. With some fuels this would cause sulphur build up in the motor and then pump failure. So a software fix was put out to increase the minimum speed.
further, fuel carries away heat from the pump motor as well as lubricate and I assume clean it from commutator dust.

I have a problem with intank pump I want to use for inline pump. The bottom of pump has a large intake hole. There's also a very small hole in bottom plastic that is pressurized when pump runs. If I plug small hole pump fails and no fuel flow. Small hole open pump works but fuel comes out small hole & normal outlet on top. Obviously can't have fuel spraying all over from small hole. Is there a way to use it as an inline without spraying all over?

  • @-aliensmithy5327
    @-aliensmithy5327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I am developing a jet engine. Now you need to create a control device and therefore you need to create a lightweight and smaller (Out Diameter 40mm) fuel pump.
If you have a suitable pump for me in your country, will you recommend a fuel pump or you can sell it after purchase? The fuel amount should be able to pump 3 LPM at 5 to 7 bar, and if there is no gear pump or no gear pump, it is also good for the same method as the pump of this image. Motor is better if the motor is BLDC.
    Thank you.

Notes: A lot of these aftermarket pumps are made with electric motors that have carbon brushes on them just like your electric power tools. Often times the fuel itself cools the pump and is in direct contact with the electricity of the pump. It doesn't make the gasoline catch fire because the hydrocarbons are poor conductors and there's not enough oxygen in the fuel pump anyway. (What about if the pump were partially ran dry? Not sure.) "Reactive Turbine pumps" can be damaged in less than a minute if ran dry. Sometimes the magnets for the electric motor is part of the casing and therefore nonremovable.

I feel like such a dumbarse. I completely understand the concept of hydrocarbon fuels being electrically non-conductive and the fact that no ignition can occur without the presence of air within the proper ratios, but I just... never fully realised that fuel flows through/past the motor windings and brushes, despite the placement of the inlet/outlet fittings and the overall design making that rather obvious. Cheers from Australia Stephan!

I just saw 2 examples of why fuel pumps are not serviceable for the average car guy, i being the average car guy would not have found that clip on my shop floor and would have had to buy another pump anyway so……i will just buy a spare and toss the other one when it fails.

    Please do injectors
Or anything of that sort of mechanism in new engines
I really like the way you explain... it’s very simple and persist

It's disappointing to see that these use brushes instead of BLDC motors. BLDCs are amazing and offer so much more control precision, not to mention reliability. Once those brushes are worn, so is the entire fuel pump.

Maybe prices at fuel pumps are the biggest scam in the world, because it's nothing compicate inside. Simle electromotor.

Are the AEM pumps better than OEM ones? Thinking of the VW Passat W8 application.

I remember racing 10th scale RC and we would use motors with different winds around the armature for change in torque/hp. Does that come into play with fuel pumps as well?

Great demo. silly these aren't serviceable though. Very wasteful.

A week before I had a stuck fuel pump like the second one you showed from a Honda 225hp v6 outboard that was sitting for up to 8 years and just replaced it. i was wondering what was in it so now I know. To bad they cannot be serviced.

I have an AEM 044 style pump that sounds like it’s chewing rocks. I’d love to send it over to see what is actually making that noise now that I’ve seen what the inside looks like.

i think a teardown of different types of differentials would be cool. the disk, the cone, the torsion.
or a teardown of different types of transmission. typical 5-speed, dog box, and most importantly show the power flow inside the transmission.
