I’ve had many chainsaw (Polin, horrible junk). I gave up always haven’t to take it apart and clean the carburetor after each use because it would not start again. I finally went to a STIHL dealer and purchased a 170. I’ve had it for almost two years. It was the best decision and purchase I’ve ever made when it comes to yard tools. It never disappoints me. Now I just got to figure out how to sharpen the blades.
So glad to hear you're happy with your STIHL 170! For sharpening the blades, you might want to check out our video here: th-cam.com/video/Jx403KEfdNA/w-d-xo.html Happy sawing!

Not tried this but i have one of their petrol hedge trimmers and seriously struggle to get it started. I find their strimmers and brushcutters ok, but a lady friend struggles with them too.
@@markcarney5415 I just got mine 3 weeks ago Try setting it to fill choke . Pull 2 times than set it to full run and pull 2 times . I brought mine back to the dealer and that’s how it starts all the time for some reason ??? My old ones never did this
As others have said, my 170 is difficult to cold start as well. Granted, I'm spoiled by my non-Stihl equipment starting on the first or second pull, but the number of times I need to pull to even get the initial engine burp is frankly embarrassing. A purge bulb would go a long way toward making this saw easier to start.

I have one and I hate it. My old 032 gave out after 40 years. After not running it for several days I knew I was going to be pulling on the rope for a while, but I never doubted it was going to start.

Hi! Regarding the STIHL MS 170, STIHL recommends the use of STIHL MotoMix. As MotoMix is not available in all markets, if you proceed with mixing the fuel yourself, use only high-quality brand-name gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 90 - leaded or unleaded, and use only quality two-stroke engine oil. We recommend STIHL two-stroke engine oil since it is specially formulated for use in STIHL engines and guarantees a long engine life. Mix Ratio: STIHL 50:1 two-stroke engine oil: 50 parts gasoline to 1 part oil.

Thanks for the video. But, as others seem to think too, and I'm no expert, this is unbelievably hard to start!!
I totally agree. I will never buy another one just because they are so hard to get started!!!

The Stihl service rep told me to start it upside down. It is by far the hardest chainsaw to get started. Worked perfectly yesterday...

This did the job
I've never had a chainsaw as hard as this to get started. Makes me question the quality. I've had others try to start it and say the same thing.

I have the same problem. I've used mine twice in the year and a half that I've had it and it's because It won't start.

Absolutely useless video to try and start this NEW chainsaw thay refuses to start!!!
Worst chainsaw ever. It's easier to start a revolution than this chainsaw.
It might take thousands of pulls with no result. Complete joke.
